OMG, Tribe is up - Quick! Post something! So, this being Leather Pride Week & all, Cuir Bleu will be playing at the SF Citadel this Saturday night, at 8:00. This will be the illustrious Dr. Lee Presson's first performance with the band... and given how it's sounded at rehearsal, this is going to be SERIOUS fun! The event is the Official Folsom Eve Party, known fondly as "This Shit Will Fuck You Up"... (cause the first one of these was hosted for 48 hours!). We'll be playing at the SF Citadel's BENT: The Musical party on Friday night, August 1st. This is the Citadel's "Youth Energy Party" for the under 40 crowd, and it's a LOT of fun! The band is still in transition... we have one new member (Blackheart) and another joining us in September... and for this show, we're going to invite Mr. Ron Pyrat, who has stayed in the wings for the past year & a half running our sound board, to come play a bit of guitar with us... Looks like I'll get to stretch my voice on a bluesy piece or two... oh yeah! And we'll be debuting a Brand New Song...! Let me know if you'll be there...

It's a Dead Man's Party!

Kalib, Bill and I took a road trip to LA last weekend, and from there went down to San Juan Capistrano to watch Lee Presson perform with Oingo Boingo tribute band "Dead Man's Party". It was quite a show! The band played a solid two hours, then came back for about 20 minutes of encores - and managed to keep it high energy the whole time. I haven't listened to Oingo Boingo in quite some time, and DMP performed some of the oldest stuff, which was a real surprise. Dr. Presson played an array of "machines", going from keyboards to mallets to... a portable, wireless keyboard that he wore like a guitar! All very cool, and quite a good show. It had been a long time since I last saw LP play electronica of any sort, and we weren't disappointed. If you get the chance, I recommend you take it! And you may just get that chance...

First and foremost, Cuir Bleu is looking for someone who wants to join us on-stage, play electric fiddle and preferably sing a bit as well! A couple of our songs have violin parts already, and others are begging for them! You must be an experienced fiddler, comfortable with the BDSM and queer communities, and willing to wear leather on stage! We are also looking for an experienced Sound Engineer, to run the board during shows and rehearsals. What a great, Long Weekend!

Of course I did far too much and didn't get quite enough relaxation in... and it was still an awesome weekend! Good friends, great sex, fabulous costumes, dinners out and a movie, too! Friday night I saw the new Indiana Jones movie, my friend Laurie threw a really fun "Leather Tea" party on Saturday night,Sunday was BayCon & hanging out with friends, that night was dinner at a wonderful italian restaurant... with sherbet and zabaglione for dessert! I may not have mentioned this before, but I adore Italian food... and zabaglione is my favorite non-chocolate dessert. Monday we went back to the Italian place... cause if one dinner there was good, two were better! I didn't get much house cleaning done, (which, um, had been the original plan), but I definitely had a full weekend! I'l pretty wiped out today... but happy. The shot is from BayCon: me with DJ Neshamah (as White Kitty), and her little leopard... who she named Pixie cause she says he looks like me!

Making a Difference

The show last Friday in Santa Cruz was a great one, despite technical difficulties with the sound system. But more than that - it worked. The promoter told us we helped to raise over $1,400 from the door and they brought in another $1,000 through the website. He says it's more than he ever imagined, and I'm so glad to have been a part of it. The drive was long, the stress levels were a bit high, the sound system was mis-wired... and we helped to raise money that will assist with medical care. Can't put a price tag on that. I feel really good to have been a part of it.

Also on the bill for that night is Rick Walker, a fabulous loop artist that we've seen perform in the past. The stuff he does is really cool, and all the artists that night are volunteering our time. It's Getting Bleu in Here...

I've been a bit busy lately, but it's all good! Lots of rehearsing for two upcoming Cuir Bleu shows - yay! And more to come! We've raised the bar a bit for 2008 and I'm hoping we'll have at least one show each month. I've been doing a bit of songwriting and also gathering old songs that I haven't done anything with yet. Hopefully Kalib and I can get together soon and put some of these to music! There are two or three that we *have* already worked on, and that are *almost* ready to perform, but not quite... and while patience may be a virtue, it's never been one of mine. So close - and yet so far! Songs in the works include "One to the Left" (my new favorite CB song!), Darkside (everyone else's fave, I think) and "Sweet Little Girl". There's also a song I did years ago with Gypsy Rags called "Here You Come Again" that I'd like to adapt. This new set is very bluesy, even agains the synth... oooh! Different sounds! We've got two gigs coming up soon - "Dark Matter" at Edges on Feb 5th and then at the Citadel for "Queer Playground" on March 7th. 2 dungeons in 2 months - 2 much fun 2 be had! It'd be cool to see some of my friends there... especially the ones who keep saying, "When are you going to play near San Jose?" Well... here we come! Will you be there?
