Papa Tony's Truck Stop Extravaganza!

   Mon, November 5, 2007 - 12:16 PM
Hello everyone. How's it going? Hope you're all well.
Things here are good, really good actually...

I just landed my first dj gig in San Francisco in well over a year!
Seriously. It's been that long. Time flies, doesn't it?
Well - for me - the time has been useful. I've got some great new tunes.

I'd like to share them with you. Yes you.
Even you in the back, trying to sneak out.
These tunes are for you. Come down and enjoy.

Here's the scoop - Tonight!

Tonight, November 5th
9ish - 11ish

Now - if you're still interested (and reading) at this point, I'll tell you what I've been influenced by so you have a concrete frame of reference. I've grown really bored with traditional house and techno. I still love my deep bleeping wonk, but that isn't fitting for a Monday night, is it? My four day weekender's are long gone....as are my days of binge drinking and destruction; now, I'm left with a different world view. I've been reading a lot about the New York Punk scene of the 70's and early 80's, the late 70's London Anarchists, Banksy's iconic street art, Counter culture through the ages and how counter culture became consumer culture, LCD Soundsystem, big hair bands of the 80's, The Gossip, Glam, Basquiat, the Velvets, the Factory era. I've been thinking about post-modernism, The Stooges, neo-futurism, being post-gay, post-bear, post-punk...and, well, I've been listening to the blues.

Hell, I am from Chicago. A man can get the blues sometimes, can't he? Damn. Add to that my younger brother corrected me recently and informed me that hyphy is not dead and then proceeded to school me - Brother David, I stand corrected.

Now - truth be told...I want to fucking rock. So - tonight, come prepared. I've got the blues, I've got the rock, I've got the roll, I've got the wonk, I've got both the hip and the hop, I have warbling Hammond organs, I've got vocoders, I'm bringing the funk...and together, we've got the beat. We've got the beat, we've got the beat.

So, yeah.

Come down and bear witness to a musical evolution. I can promise your monies worth - it IS free. . Bring some friends - maybe the weather will be nice. That and my invisible boyfriend shall manifest. Come by, have a beer with me. Or at least a beer near me. I'm probably only going to have one or two

It is a school night, after all. Right?

*Papa Tony was once known as DJ Polar Bear. In some circles this will never change. For the purpose of this musical experiment, however - and in keeping with the branding aspect of his myspace page (www.myspace.com/dloursblanc), Papa Tony is the moniker that will likely be used moving forward - baring, of course, some sort of retro-rave up necessity.

We can all agree, however, that that is probably unlikely. It's for the best, really - don't you agree?
