"Birth of the Homunculii"
-pen and ink drawing- c. James Quinn 1995-
The inspiration for this drawing was from the medieval alchemist Paracelus, one of the first people to experiment with artificial 'test tube' babies by trying to create a 'Homunculus' (plural, 'Homunculii')
The procedure for this includes some human semen in a test tube full of menstrual blood, which is left in a warm pile of manure. Several months later, a small, soul-less little man crawls out of the manure to do the bidding of it's creator.
