<div>As i strolled past blockbuster approaching the castro i heard the voice.
Directed at me with some reference to macho, the words came clear as i walked by the
scattering of streetkids,
"don't you know fedoras are out of style"
says a gray, dull young man trying to sully my mood and impress his friends.

"Thanks for the update" i say in my most repectful and authentic tone.

His moment falls flat behind me and he mutters something about it being the Castro
a bash perhaps....i think briefly of asking "so how's life in the gutter"
but not really, there's no way the sad boy gets any attention from me
and i wish him no harm.

But he was wrong about my hat.

    </a>
										<div>I thought it was so strange yesterday how Hillary Clinton (for whom I have a great deal of political respect) sorta/ sortanot acknowledges Obama (for whom i surprised myself by supporting in the primary) as the Democratic candidate.
Ms Dowd has an interesting take on it below.

June 4, 2008
OP-ED COLUMNIST
She’s Still Here!

By MAUREEN DOWD
He thought a little thing like winning would stop her?

Oh, Bambi.

Whoever said that after denial comes acceptance hadn’t met the Clintons.

If Hillary could not have an acceptance speech, she wasn’t going to have acceptance.

“It’s never going to end,” sighed one Democrat who has been advising Hillary. “We’re just moving to a new phase.”

Barry has been trying to shake off Hillary and pivot for quite a long time now, but she has managed to keep her teeth in his ankle and raise serious doubts about his potency. Getting dragged across the finish line Tuesday night by Democrats who had had enough of the rapacious Clintons, who had decided, if it came to it, that they would rather lose with Obama than win with Hillary, the Illinois senator tried to celebrate at the St. Paul arena where Republicans will anoint John McCain in September.

But even as Obama was trying to savor, Hillary was refusing to sever. Ignoring the attempts of Obama and his surrogates to graciously say how “extraordinary” she was as they showed her the exit, she and a self-pitying Bill continued to pull focus. Outside Baruch College, where she was to speak, her fierce feminist supporters screamed “Denver! Denver! Denver!”

Even as Obama got ready to come out on stage for his victory party, the Clinton campaign announced that it had won a Wyoming superdelegate and Terry McAuliffe introduced her at Baruch as “the next president of the United States.” She gave a brief nod to Obama without conceding that he was the nominee before rushing through a variation on her stump speech. She clung to her fuzzy math about winning the popular vote, and in one last fudge she said: “Thanks so much to South Dakota. You had the last word” — even though the Montana polls still had 25 minutes to go.

“What does Hillary want?” she mused, in her most self-aware moment in some time. “I will be making no decisions tonight,” she concluded, asking fans to go to her Web site to share their thoughts.

And, even though Democrats were no longer listening, Hillary’s camp radiated the message that Obama was a sucker who had played by the rules on Florida and Michigan, and then reached an appeasing compromise, and that such a weak sister could never handle Putin or I’m-A-Dinner-Jacket.

As he was reaching the magic number of delegates, she was devilishly stealing the spotlight. First, her camp vociferously denied an Associated Press report that she would concede and then, in a conference call with the New York delegation, she gave a green light to supporters to push for her to be on the ticket.

Clintonologists know that Hillary is up to something, but they aren’t sure what. Theory No. 1 is that it’s the Cassandra “I told you so” gambit: She believes intensely that he’s too black, too weak and too elitist — with all his salmon and organic tea and steamed broccoli — to beat her pal John McCain. But she has to pretend she’ll do “whatever it takes,” even accept the vice presidency, a job she’s already had and doesn’t want again, so that nobody will blame her when he loses on Nov. 4. Then she can power on to 2012.

Theory No. 2 is that it’s a “Bad stuff happens” maneuver, exemplified in her gaffe about the R.F.K. assassination, that she figures that at least if she moves a few blocks from Embassy Row to the Naval Observatory, she’ll be a heartbeat away from the job she’s always wanted.

Either way, by broadcasting that she’s open to being Obama’s running mate, she puts public pressure on him similar to the sort of pressure Walter Mondale was under from rampaging feminists when he put Geraldine Ferraro on the ticket. Mondale ended up seeming henpecked, as Obama would seem if he caved to the women who say they will write in Hillary’s name or vote for anti-choice McCain before they’d vote for Obama.

For months, Hillary has been trying to emasculate Obama with the sort of words and themes she has chosen, stirring up feminist anger by promoting the idea that the men were unfairly taking it away from the women, and covering up her own campaign mistakes with cries of sexism. Even his ability to finally clinch the historic nomination did not stop her in that pursuit. She did not bat her eyelashes at him and proclaim him Rhett Butler instead of Ashley Wilkes.

She just urged her supporters to keep the dream alive, and talked privately about what she would settle for. She has told some Democrats recently that she wanted Obama to agree to allow a roll call vote, like days of yore, so that the delegates of states she won would cast the first ballot for her at the convention. She said she wanted that for her daughter.

Obama supporters are worried that it’s a trick and she’ll somehow snatch away the nomination. Just as Hillary supporters have hardened toward him, many of Obama’s donors and fans have hardened against the Clintons, saying it would be disillusioning to see them on a ticket that’s supposed to be about fresh politics.

“It would be,” said one influential Democrat, “like finding out there’s no tooth fairy.”</div>

										<div>tomorrow I am shooting a dance piece by the artistic director of capacitor and i would like to
bring along an additional crew person.

You don't need experience or skills just the right attitude (respectful &amp; positive energy) and an authentic love of dance and motion imagery.
I am donating my time and gear so there is no pay for this production... as many of you know i often do have paying shoots once you've demonstrated your skills and the proper on set demeanor

We will likely be shooting in a rented dance studio and/or at some SF landmarks.

    </a>
										<div>I just finished shooting and have now begun editing a series of videos on
early childhood development by California Libraries.

It's been such a pleasure shooting babies and little kids playing with their parents and librarians (my kinda people),
singing songs, laughing loudly all for a very special hour in their local library.
The energy of all involved is so remarkable and it's effect on me greatly valued.

And tomorrow I'm meeting with a Hospice organization to discuss a video project
to explain their services. I don't really need or want more work this summer but i feel like i am somehow meant to
produce this piece.

This is what I love about being a independent producer/director: I learn and evolve from my subjects and
it enriches my life and helps direct the decisions i make. Being of service to these communities is a real privilege and
it fills me with a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Even if it means a few less days reading at the beach :)

										<div>highlights:
the slipandslid hilarity after the race.....funniest shit i've seen in a long time!
the baywatch gang and their sweet dance music....an eclectic mix from johnny cash to 50 cent
all the sweet folks who came up and took a picture with me or squeezed me
the amazing change of scenery...as if the road flowed like a river and all you had to do is watch it all float by
the low budget outfits like the guy who turned himself into a robot using an oveersized grey storage bin
the hotties who let it all hang out

lowlights (believe me there we're many):
people with megaphones producing feedback and thinking it's clever
seeing someone getting into a fight with a megaphone guy and getting feedback blasted into his face
people who obliviously backup into crowds indifferent to the harm they cause...many girls did this
waterguns that no one wanted to get sprayed with when it got cold
the english guy who would finsh his beer buy tossing that last 1/4 of it behind him into the air covering all the nice people who just happen to be behind him.....miserable chap

but overall it was glorious....a mad spectacle of creative energy and and alcohol abuse.

										<div>I like buying fresh threads, a lot.

When i decide it's time to refresh my wardrobe, i go shopping in the Castro
where i find the clothes i prefer.
Often, i make friends with the clerks and try on a loads of stuff: both my selections and theirs.

The only guideline from me is that "it has to be suitable for a hetero date night"
as in clothes that don't send out mixed sexuality signals about me
'cause i like girls

They have me try on items i wouldn't even notice, tell me to flaunt it while they rate it all and generally dress me with at least an attempt at style. I enjoy the whole process, far preferable and effective than going to Macy's in a big mall. Retail therapy i suppose they call it.

well the funny thing is one store asked me to be the "customer of the month" and told me they would give me some certificates in exchange for a few pics of me in my new clothes. kinda funny i think, so i'm trying to get a few good shots using my laptop camera

I'm trying to look very hetero in my posterboy poses.

whacha think?

do i look.....?

    </a>
										<div>Last month I had the great fortune of going to Vermont to produce a videoconference with Ken Burns about his series on WWII.

The audience included 5 libraries across California and Ken was easy going and super gracious....It was a thrill to be working camera on a project with him and we got along really well.

I was amazed at the way he was able to describe the documentary creation process and humbled by the stories of pain and sacrifice he related in vivid detail. To tell you the truth I was inspired to become a more capable and fearless interviewer, director and storyteller...now that's the kinda outcome i like from my projects.

I hope you get a chance to watch the piece...or perhaps to have it play in the backround and just hear his stories..they are unforgettable.

										<div>im home, staying in the room i had in highschool for two nights before driving to vermont to shoot a videoconfernce with Ken Burns. my parents are so lovely...just sitting and talking with my mom makes me feel so at ease...all my worries fade away...i feel so different than i have lately in SF....I realize how quiet and private i have become since a late summer breakup with a wonderful girl....inaccessable to all but a few select people...coming home makes me realize how important it is not to get to caught up in my own mind and most sensitive emotions...that i need to let people get close again...funny how home brings such relief and clarity...tonight we will have a big family dinner and i will be one of many ~connected~ to all...and then tomorrow i will drive thru the foliage of vermont and just let it all wash over me....i welcome the color and cold breeze...the real changing of a season...maybe that's what's been going on with me....</div>

    </a>
										<div>i'm mighty proud of my noma crew, this was not only the students first dance video it was their first multicamera production of any sort
and they really created a respectful energetic space for the dancers to perform.

The crew warmly greeted the troupe when they arrived....and fully commited to focused communication, teamwork and their best individual efforts. The directing was crisp and sure and the team all gathered around to hold the greenscreen fabric for some opening sequence effects. By the end i could feel their oneness and knew they had exceeded themselves and become a unfied crew.

And that is really what we we're all there for.

The editing was led by big e...a soon to be pro, former intern....current bouncer, dj, goalie, singer and student.

I hope you enjoy it.

I particulary like the second half....take a look :)

    </a>
										<div>People are amazing!

The students i have worked with the past two weeks have exceeded all my expectations.
They have created an atmosphere of respect and cooperation and produced some mindblowing media....i mean some truly impressive stuff.

You can see some of it on youtube by using the tags "noma" &amp; "mediaposse"

Tonight we are having screening of the their individual vidoes along with promotional videos created for the school and
the dance performances and fashion show we produced. It's being held in a place called the "Porno Bar" and it's going to be more than a full house.

I came here to fill them with the good energy of the playa and i am leaving deeply enriched by their influence on me.

I have chosen my top 10 to intern with me in SF in 2008 and i have 32 of them coming in a week for a precompression bar-b-que.

So if you see me at decom with a few dozens dolled up scandies please come say hi and introduce yourself to them....it will be worth your while.

I fly back tomorrow just in time to get ready for the love parade...wuuu huuu...i miss my city!

    </a>
										<div>Sometimes i can't believe my good fortune.

Hot off the burn, I find myself in Kolding, Denmark to teach video production at a multi-media academy and today i held my first classes and started building a new tv studio. I have 40 or so students mainly from Denmark, Iceland and Finland and feel so lucky to have this oppurtunity to influence the course of their lives. But it's not really the technical aspects of cameras, lights and audio that i think is the most important part of my lesson plans ~ but rather the ethos of the playa that i have just had the privilege to immerse myself in.

I see the change in their body language as i assure them that that they are all worthy, connected and capable and that their sacred desires matter and need not be comprimised for commercial gain. I asked them to examine "what it is they truly want" so that they can free themselves from false motivation or misguided habits. Merging all of this with the fundamentals of production discipline, technique and teamwork, I see ther eyes light up and sense them becoming more aware of themselves and each other and literally feel a change in the vibration of the room. It's amazing...it's such a privilege to be transporting the wonderful energy all of you beautiful burners enriched me with to these young souls. I feel like i am sharing the double rainbow, prompting them into the deep end and honoring the temple that so lovingly honored us.

I feel so lucky... it humbles me...and reminds me of the glint in your eyes as you tell me i am beautiful.

It is your energy i am sharing...your sweet loveliness they are receiveing...your joy that is transforming their lives and providing them with the confidence and freedom to love themselves and each other as they begin the journey towards their most creative selfs.

Thank you all for what you have given me...i will share you..and spread it about the world.
