Rana: A Celebration of Life

I am sad to announce the death of my great friend Mohammad Faisal, “Rana”. He died unexpectedly and peacefully at home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was only 32....He was taking a shower, and in the blink of an eye his journey on this Earth was over....Just like that! I first met Mo about 13 years ago and he was one of my favorite people ever…Always smiling, and quick with a hug,he was a good friend….It destroys me that I can never see that smile or feel those hugs again, but mostly I am thankful that I had them at all….. I was going to go in on Monday and show him my shiny new cast, because I knew that he would laugh and remind me of the time that I broke my foot blowing him a kiss and tripped over my other foot…I told him (as he put ice on my foot)that I had read in a book that Sophia Loren used to blow kisses at people when they paid compliments to her…He laughed and told me to remind him to never compliment me again…But he always did, anyway! I didn't go...My painkillers made me too woozy, and on Tuesday he passed.... My condolences to Tonya, his family, and everyone that he ever touched, because the world will never be the same without Mohammad, but at least we had him for a short while, and we will always have him in our hearts. http://newdelhirestaurant.com/rana/

COACH SUSHI 532 Grand Ave Oakland, CA 94610 (510) 834-7866 "FUN!!!!! I read about it today and just wanted give it a test try.... I got there at opening and ordered the Masu Sake (endless sake in a wooden cup you get to decorate for them to keep until your next visit),and really, really FRESH sushi!!! The "Coach" came over and showed us how to drink the sake with a lil bit of sea salt and the gave us pens to decorate our boxes.... #1- the sake was 3.50 for everything (which is NON-STOP) Masu sake! #2- The sushi was amazingly fresh and cheap! #3- Service was so, so, so friendly! End note is that I wiil SO be back!!! Two people eating and drinking themselves silly was 40.00, plus 10.00 dollar tip! I have died and gone to sushi heaven!!" P.S. You have to ask for MASU SAKE for the endless sake, it is NOT posted as endless!

Robert and I went down to see the show, and maybe rabble-rouse for Tibet a little. Not planning to interfere, but still be small voices, perhaps even heard. Oh yeah, and we wanted to see the torch. We were surrounded by very professional pro-china people, who were themselves at least highly confrontational, and tending toward violent rhetoric. We were not comfortable around these people -- they were very successful in their intimidation. We wound up north of the Ferry Building, and fell in with a group of Burmese activists. They handed out home-made flags of maroon fabric zip-tied to pvc pipes, and we waved our flags and chanted. Classic non-violent voicing of opinion….There were various other protesting groups, ghettoized north of the main press area by the throngs of slickly outfitted pro-China supporters. The police, gods love them, did a marvelous job of keeping order and keeping us all from suspecting the truth. There were lots of police, keeping the path clear, and then suddenly they were all gone, and it took quite some time for people to figure out what had occurred. There were some ordinary folks come to see the torch, but mostly it was a political camera-fest, for all sides, and the torch would indeed have lost significance in the fracas. By the time that the torch was on its alternate path, Robert and I had tired of chanting and waiting, so we saw the progress of the torch down Van Ness from Sinbad's Bar. We toasted the prank, which did indeed seem rather San Francisco-esque, especially because they didn't tell most of the big media, and they were scrambling! The foreign media, which had been pushed to the margins just as the anti-Chinese protestors had been, had no chance to extricate themselves and get to the actual route. All in all, a beautiful day for a protest followed by Whippets in a bar overlooking the bay. AND we got to take home our homemade Burma freedom flag.

Off to Vancouver tomorrow !!!!!

This Saturday I rescued this Lil kitten at the SPCA booth at the Harvest Festival....I have named her Lucy, and she loves to be taken for walks in her harness...Of course the only harness I could find that fit her was for a gerbil....She is super independent and feisty and as soon as my 22 pound black kitty Qui comes around I know they will be great friends! For now, she is kicking' his ass!

In just 10 minutes I have to go into a room and lay off my best friend in this company for the past 7 years.....She didn't do anything wrong, it is just a restructuring thing....Like that is going to make her feel better....She will probably hate me because she will know that I have known for a while....Like yesterday, when we were laughing and having sake and sushi, and talked about we would be doing if we didn't have these crappy jobs and I knew....I wish it was Saturday and I was at Faire......:{

Well....Jury Duty is over and I have have to say I am somewhat disillusioned by the experience....Not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did, but the fact that after two weeks it ended in a mis-trial....All this money spent on a two hundred dollar shoplifting charge.... It cost my company over 1500.00 just covering my wages as I could only work part time....What did it cost all told? The lost labor hours of others, the hours the court personnel put in, the lawyers, the judge?...Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that we live in a country that gives us the right to prove ourselves innocent by trial by a jury of our peers....We are very lucky, I truly believe that! I just feel like I didn't help in any way, like it was all a waste of time...I am sorta bummed....

I am juror number 5!....And I have mornings and Fridays off so that I can catch up at work....I am enjoying it, but between working in the morning in the east bay, JD in the afternoon in SF and back to the east bay in the evening for community theater work....I am POOPED!!!!! The most fun I've had at a movie in a long time: Black Sheep. This new indie film (still at secondary houses, like the Parkway in Oakland) from New Zealand has EVERYTHING. It is your basic genetic-mutation zombie were-sheep extravaganza, and then some! No, really. This film is FUN. Flying sheep-fu, hippies learning the hard way how to be aggressive shotgun toting carnivores, mint sauce that burns like holy water, implied extensive sheep-buggery, and lots more! Two thumbs way up, but mind the sheep bites! Joe-Lara say check it out!
