Taking a new style of dance music into the 21st century has been the primary objective in mind since Ian Hasdell formed Zetan Spore in West Cornwall in 1995. Since then they’ve gone on to release a number of albums and take their sound worldwide. Psylicious set his phaser on ask and went in search of answers.

Inspired by psychedelic rock in the late 80’s and its evolution into earlier dance acts such as Eat Static and Astralasia, Ian Hasdell was spurred into forming his own style of psychedelic dance music. After releasing his first album, Alien Frequencies, in 1996, Ian’s twin brother Mark came on board, playing guitar and didgeridoo which forms the basis for their unique synergistic partnership.

Together they brought out the next Zetan Spore album, Visitation in 1997 and were then signed to Aardvark Records, where they have so far released a further seven albums. With an eighth album due for release later in the year and countless gigs across the UK the twins of Zetan Spore touched down to answer a few questions for HarderFaster readers.

As of Sept. 1st Dj Meghan (USA) will be available for long distance / overseas bookings again. For the past several months, Meghan’s travels have been limited due to having another baby (William). Now that William's approaching his first birthday on Aug. 8th, she is able to start traveling again.

DJ Meghan has been in the EDM scene since the spring of 1998 when her then boyfriend/now husband took her to her first event. In the spring of 2000, she had her first gig (Think Different) in Columbus, OH, and has been spinning out on a regular basis ever since.

Meghan started spinning mostly techno, progressive house and progressive trance, but every now and then would also buy some psytrance records to add to her collection.
It wasn't until early 2003 when Meghan decided to get more involved with spinning psytrance when DJ Malachi of Goahead Productions persuaded her to do so. She found it difficult to buy psytrance on vinyl, and noticed that a lot of it was only available on CD. So at the end of 2003, she bought her first Pioneer CDJ 1000.

Meghan is now considered one of the regions best psytrance and down tempo DJs. Her DJ sets have been witnessed on a regular basis at Psytrance parties throughout America, including DJ sets in Canada. Her sets have been aired on di.fm as well as the Psylicious Radio show, and she has also done live DJ sets on radio shows: The Beat Matrix and The Raver's Edge on WRUW in Cleveland, OH.

In late 2007, Meghan was approached by the Psylicious Collective & Management whom had heard her DJ promotional mixes. Even more so when her unique mixing skill was noticed after the owner of Psylicious visited the USA and had witnessed her performance.

Meghan's diverse style, coupled with unique mixing ability, along with both indoor and outdoor event experience, ensures that she is certainly a DJ who is rising steadily to the forefront of the USA Psytrance scene.

Psykia, real name Francesca Spadoni is an eclectic young artist from the Italian underground music scene. Totally immersed in the psychedelic trance music scene and its culture she spent a year writing her book, “Trancefloor: an ethnographic study about the soundscapes of dancing souls." With a DJ career that has taken her to international territories, as well as the many parties within her Italian homeland and the UK, Psykia is now an integral part of Psylicious, with residencies for it’s radio show and future hosted events and stages.

Her DJ sound is underground, taking in the sub genres of full on night time, full on, progressive and chilled out psychedelic beats, making Psykia perfect for all trance floors, festivals and stages. Following her recent gig in Slovenia, I took some time with Psykia to write this feature for HarderFaster and to find out more about her passion for the music and the culture of the psychedelic trance music scene.

Tom Psylicious catches up with John Phantasm to find out more about the birth of Phantasm Records, the UK trance scene and of course his Son, Eskimo.....

John Phantasm has been in the music business long enough to see the many falls and rises that have transpired over the years as well as the latest trends of youth culture musically. Not only the proud Dad of highly acclaimed UK psy trance act and producer Eskimo, John is also the driving force behind one of the UK's most original Trance record labels, Phantasm Records, a major force in the psy trance world since their first releases in 1993 and regular feature in the playlists of every DJ large or small on the psy trance scene today.

With superb contemporary releases like the Strange Frequencies, Tokyo 24/7 and Molecular Counterpart compilations, Phantasm are still pushing the boundaries forward, and have been the launch pad for many of the artists in the trance world today, including the meteoric rise of Eskimo, currently the scene's brightest and most original talent.
