about me
I want to experience life, meet new people, learn new things, make my own mistakes and learn from others, give second chances...
I live with with my mom, my boyfriend, 2 other friends, a bird, 6 cats and a mouse. My favorite color is purple. I've been trying to be good to the environment, recycling, buying locally grown produce (CSA farm shares) and using less energy. I also try to work out everyday at my YMCA. The quick resume: I was at Motorola for 5 years doing intranet/extranet web application development. Later I was at the Broad Institute (Whitehead Institute/MIT's genome center) for 8 years (mostly helping the scientists do data analysis); they were one of the centers responsible for completing the human genome (chromosomes 8, 11, 15, 17 and 18). I'm currently employed at Geo Solutions/Gypsii. I prefer reading sci-fi or fantasy type novels; Favorites include Robert Jordan, Anne Rice, Jacqueline Carey, Orson Scott Card, Janny Wurts, J.R.R. Tolkien, Michelle West, Margaret Atwood, Dorothy L. Sayers, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaimen, Greg Bear, Stephen King and Jean M. Auel. Musically, I listen to a relatively wide range. I've been recently influenced by Tori Amos, Godsmack, Tool, NIN, Cruxshadows, Black 47, Ego Likeness, Bill Morrissey, Bauhaus, Voltaire, Screaming Orphans, Pendragon, 5 Gauge, Death by Fame, Amber Spyglass, Incus and Lucretia's Daggers. Educationally, I have a BS in Computer Science from Bridgewater State and I have an MBA from UMass. I enjoy learning in general. If I ever go back to school, I would likely pursue something in physics, math, linguistics, philosophy, sociology or psychology. Religious/spiritual type stuff: I generally can't stand organized religion, but I used to be loosely affiliated with the New Bedford chapter of CUUPs - though I've rarely been in the past few years. I would classify myself as a paganish type, but I'm open to other ideas. I got to see the Dalai Lama at a conference a few years ago and that was memorable. There is a zen center in Cumberland that I've gone to a couple of times and a great drumming circle that meets up in the New Bedford area and another that meets in Cumberland, but I need to make more time for that sort of thing. There is this great Beltane festival in CT that I will try and make it back to again. Then there is Firefly and other Burning Man type events. These events are good for my soul.
