We still encourage experienced fire dancers to come and play with us in an open play area, and due to our new relationship, we should have a lot more freedom for shows and other entertainment options in the future.
See you on Friday,
DJ Joy

I love this man. His name is Beyond Joy and it fits him. Still, it could almost be Beyond Description. He is a man who defies labels and boxes. He is a teacher and a performer, a writer and a story teller, an organizer and an instigator, an artist and a merry prankster. He knows what's happening but he also makes things happen and I admire him so much for that. He is smart and informed and involved. He is funny and engaging and enlightened. He is kind and loving and I love the way he picks me up and spins me around when we see each other unexpectedly. He is the very instrument of unconditional love, always looking outside himself for how he can touch other people's lives. He is also a dynamo and a powerhouse. He takes on huge challenges and he always pulls them off. At Transformus, he organized a themecamp, a chill spin zone, a skills exchange area and schedule and still had time left over to serve crepes on a rolling cart to his fellow campers. He also led the fire conclave while playing his flaming bagpipes. And I'm sure there were more things too. The man always has something going on.
Beyond, I just love you to pieces. Thank you for sharing your light and your love and your art and your fun. You make the world a better place. I'm so grateful for you and I'm so very very very glad we're friends. I feel really lucky to know you. Thanks for all you do. Walk in peace my friend, Caroleeena

about me
Beyond Joy was born in a tepee on the mountains of north-eastern Washington State. In his early years he was home schooled in British Columbia, Canada, and all over the US, including the Hopi Nation where he spoke more Hopi than English. At ten his parents started a seven year teaching career at small Quaker schools and they moved to New Hampshire. He later attended Quaker schools in North Carolina, Georgia and California. For his Junior Year in High School he joined, with his parents, the Buddhist organized Interfaith Pilgrimage for Peace and Life walking from Auschwitz, Poland, to Hiroshima, Japan. Since then he has participated in many activist marches, including the Native American Sacred Run around Ireland and Scotland, the For Mother Earth 2000 Walk for Nuclear Disarmament from the World Court in Den Hague to NATO HQ in Brussels, Belgium, and protests at the School of the Americas.
Beyond joined the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) when he was four and has been an active member ever since. He Graduated Guilford College completing the Quaker Leadership Scholars Program and the Bonner Scholar community service program. More recently he was asked to speak at the Friends Peace Witness in a Time of Crises where he presented Passionate Peacemaking, a story about being a Quaker Peace Activist. Currenlty living in Greensboro, North Carolina, he is newly married. He works as an IT Branch Specialist at the Self-Help Credit Union where he is responsible for sixty-two people across eight branches. Self-Help is a mission driven non-profit who's aim is to offer economic opportunities to minorities, women, people in rural parts of North Carolina and more recently Latinos. With over a billion in assets, Self-Help is one of the few players that stand a fighting chance taking on Payday or "predatory" lenders who are basically trying to screw low income home owners out of their homes.

Humm... I really must go to Atlanta's Santarchy this year... here is a little history behind the Cacophony Society ( la.cacophony.org/press-hill.html )... who also helped with some of the original organization of Burningman.... Some rumors they may have been associated withe the Merry Pranksters of yor. This might just be fancy though. Or because they describe them selves as "merry pranksters of the new millennium." But so far as I (with google) can tell, there is no clear link...

Transformus was fantastic once again! I had never been busier, never had such a rewarding time, nor have I ever seen a fire that was quite so awe inspiring. That was hands down the biggest burn I have witnessed. There are lots of thoughts, encounters and interactions I had, but I am going to try to keep this post mainly to The Incredibly Busy Set Up and my The Potlatch Realization.

Profusion has teamed up with the wonderful folks at The Underground (formerly Ace’s Basement, under new ownership and darkly remodeled) to introduce a unique club atmosphere. From eighties new wave goth, to German darkwave, to beats from the London synth and futurepop scene, DJ Midnightt and DJ Joy will keep the music (and you) throbbing.

Midnightt and I are going to Burning Man for the first time this year and we are very excited! I purchased our tickets the minute tier one tickets went on sale, and that was good as I was number 3,700 in line, and tier one tickets, all 10,000 of them, sold out in just three hours. Just now I purchased our airline tickets out there through South West Airlines and including all taxes and fees, the two tickets combined cost six hundred and sixty-six dollars!! ...and eighty cents. I am a littl...

I am continually amazed at how fast the kids these days pick up fire dance. Yesterday I was teaching my third class in this round of lessons, and this is usually when I introduce some move to practice so they will be able to perform the weave. In my mind they will practice the basics and then we will tackle the weave over the next lesson or so, but no, every student got it by the end of the lessons! I was shocked. Sometimes there is a student or two that is a really fast learner and w...
