so we got together to collaborate this one day. I was off my game for some reason or the other and going through stupid girl shit so I smoked cigarettes on his patio, looking through the screen door--
past the microphone and the setup. past the technology and tools of the music trade and there he was--working and rocking out. tweeking and blistering and turning the phrases of music and it was incredible. he grabbed the mike because I was off my game as I said and then he said it. rolling to the beats this guy starts rapping like a pro-- and only later he admitted that he was just going with the flow. didn't even know that he could do it. we did the playback and it rocked and it worked and to this day I remember the sunshine of that day and the syncopated beats and the growl of his voice slipping out poetry just telling it like it is. channeling God. dipping into that spinning vortex between reality and fiction and in snapshot moments finding the truth and saying it into the microphone-- locking it in. locking it down. making the world richer, brighter, more vibrant--adding to the sum total of the world's soul. I need to do some math here. I've known Pyrotec for years now but the total times we've hung out is probably less than twenty. But each of those times has been something unique. Something memorable and incredible-- Where in our conversations we've struck on something valuable and true and I've had to lean back in my chair and quietly think to myself, well holy shit. that's pyrotec. you could never dissect the music from the man. it would be like removing his liver. but even if you could, then he would be reduced--to either a prophet or a poet. Take your pick.
