Crisis Apparitions: Idiots, Icons, and Idols. New Paintings by Ralfka Gonzalez

Throughout June Magnet will show recent works by Ralfka Gonzalez who has been painting off and on in Oaxaca, Mexico. Ralfka’s public artwork is on display in Philadelphia, PA, and he has penned a children’s book entitled My First Book of Proverbs. Ralfka plans to utilize his knowledge of Oaxaca in the future, focusing on queer culture in that area.

Ralfka went to Oaxaca to paint goddesses, saints, and diablitos, yet is seemed that even as hard times fell Oaxaca’s changes spontaneously started to mix into the paint. Starting with the ancient Zapotec tradition of drag queens, known as Muxes (pronounced “Mooshay”) you can feel this old world made new in his exhibition. Dreamlike, yet with a raw, angry humor, Crisis Apparitions: Idiots, Icons, and Idols are visions that appear to us in everyday life.

“The queer Zapotec Muxes know how to make tortillas,” explains Ralfka. “By that I mean they are not Gay, or ‘top’ or ‘bottom.’ Their queer spiritual history is ancient, and gay Latin art continues to influence culture everywhere from the flowers on Frieda’s dresses to the Stonewall drag queens. I believe, some days, that the world is flat like a tortilla, and wouldn’t it be more balanced if people made more tortillas?”

JUST TRYING TO PAINT WITH COLD... MISSING TRIBE YET I NEVER KNOW IF ITS GOING TO WORK

..life is good, it seems that when i leave the usa, i feel better...been mostly on face book remeeting old pals,and meeting new ones, is tribe still very hard to get on still?..i gave up it was taking way too long to post pictures,plus i love all kinds of folks,essp.the queer outsider activist yogi types!...had a few health problems before i left oakland , all is good my new hiv pills seem to be working it,with out much side afficects,im still spelling for shit....hhhmmmm...it would be nice to be with lover enjoying mexcio with sun downs are so pretty,one can only want nice man to hug as the sun goes in to the sea....my jet ticket rides ..were very cheap..220 with all taxes...delta..s.f.to.mexcio seedy....met a very rich kool woman so will vist her in one of her house in seattle,washingtom this summer,july? as long as there is no rain,,,, im happy to be out of the fog, and to tell the truth be able to spend a night out with out it costing my whole SSI cheak,..im down in oaxaca looking to find a cheap apartment..for painting new art for my BIG ART SHOW,this june 2009 in the castro at maget gallery....i might just live in zipolite oaxaca as love to body surf on big bodys of of of water....MUXES the new york times wrote about them dec 13, there is muxe party on the 27 of dec.. im still looking for queen to invite me, they will, when i went to the mens bar, a few queenz recalled my tex mex fag ass....made peace with past,i was lucky to see how sad& really fucked up some folks are in my real world tribe of pals,so the lies, gossip,stealing from me is just about them ,too bad they have such un truthfull lifes, how un happy to they are to hurt people that they dont like because they are not FAKES LIKE THEMSELFS.... it will take some brave moves on my part to get to queer gathering as dont want to not to trust other gays on some what spirtual kick,,,did tell u im really want lover in my life..how do cast a spell for that..will some wicca saint do this for me as a new years gift?!!!! i truly think im too normal too for the freaks, too freaky for the the will and grace (iwanta get marryed gays)...oh well tonigt im down posting pictures but they are too big... so now i will take more opictures of the fire works for the virgen del la SOLEDAD, it her brithday ..i gotta go....

.. wow what nice way things are flowing for me it about time.... i turned 50.. and i really happy with it... i have a young what the fuck, what do i have to lose thing going on... i have my 1st art show comoing up next june in the castro so im really wprking on rocking the gay art world.... i hope to loive in oaxaca zipolite !!! by late nov. or dec... i plan to PAINT PAINT PAINT ..... i found a bike so im painting that too... and i have love hate thing with mccain v.p. bit bull with lipstick.. shes so freaky ....i wish it was not true... but i know my year will be a good one as me ,michael jackson and mcain are born on the same day, not year! i think he will win even if he has to cheat like the last 2 times,,,,sorry!
