Artist Statement

Inspired by this poem "Rest in Natural Great Peace" by Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, I began to explore the imagery and embodiment of peace, as well as the embodiment of the illusions that keep us from feeling peace.

What is our breath? The tunnel between shadow and light, mind and presence, providing speedy transportation out of the darkness when we choose it.

How much can change in one breath?

The dancers move in the strength of the peace that always exists behind the veil of illusion, and is always available to you now. Falling leaves. Snow. Deer. Medicine Woman. Wind. Mountains. Toe circles in the sand. Sunshine. Waves. Open space.

"Rest in natural great peace this exhausted mind,
Beaten helpless by karma and neurotic thoughts
Like the relentless fury of the pounding waves
In the infinite ocean of samsara.
Rest in natural great peace."

-Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche,

directions at sfu....

This building is on one edge of the campus and it is easiest to get there by transit. Take the train from commercial station east to production bay/university. There take the 145 to SFU. The bus should make 2 stops on campus. Don't get off at the first stop, go further up the hill until it stops at the cornerstone mini mall. Get off there and at renisance coffe take a left – walking the length of the strip mall. Stay on this sidewalk and though you will see a sign that says east academic annex with an arrow it takes you on a detour, so just walk straight until you reach a stop sign. The EAA is on the corner of this intersection – is a building surrounded by trees and there will be a sign. It is only 1 block from where the bus stops.

If you do drive, when you enter the campus and the road forks STAY LEFT. Do not follow the signs for visitor parking that are to your right. Go straight until you are forced to turn at a T intersection and take a left. Go up the hill a bit until there is a sign for visitor parking and take a left into that lot. Walk back to the road you were just driving uphill on, and follow the sidewalk straight up the hill. It will take you directly into the EAA.
