Annual Chocolate Martini Experiment
(events » sports / rec)
Saturday, February 7, 2009 - 7:00 PM
314 RSVPs
Here are the directions, I just posted it to my blog as well.
The directions and a bit of an update at the end, yahoo only takes you to the gate so do read further than this::
Sunshine Biscuits, 851 81st Ave #301, Oakland, CA, 94621
Or if you want to use a yahoo link copy all the lines and paste:
maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&lat...C%252094621
-----------------
On 81st From San Leandro Blvd Take the second gated entrance on your left
The gate will be opened... pull in. If not we have a temp code #1234
On the other side of the gate is a large front parking lot
Drive through the building archway, yes through the building it is an old factory after all.
Drive toward barbed wire fence
Now you are in the larger back parking lot and plenty of room for RV.
Park your RV or car anywhere that is safe and doesn’t block the road going further back to the right.
Now to get into the building, there is about 20 parking spots in a small back lot by the door.
Veer right after the ramp leading to the underground parking - around the back of the Sunshine Biscuits building. Walk or small cars drive back here for parking but if there are cars parked near the ramp that area in the back small lot fills up fast.
You'll see parking – park anywhere that is available just don’t park in any area that blocks traffic
The final entrance to the building is the back door all the way to the back of the building next to a closed gate. The guy who lives beyond the gate is a Vietnam Vet who watches the back parking lot with his security cams and has been know to protect it with his flamethrower. He will know you are coming and be ok with it.
Go up the stairs to floor 3. All the way to the top. Walk down hallway and make the first right walk towards the elevator and make another right to #301.
-------------------
Updates and info:
This is a burner filled party and I always get the questions “What do I wear and what kind of food should I bring?” I came up with this idea on the principle of burner art/costume/pot luck parties are a dime a dozen and will happen the next weekend like they happened the weekend before. This is a Chocolate Martini Experiment. I do bring some vodka and mixers and provide the recipe. Your goal is to alter the recipe as you see fit to wow people on a kick ass Chocolate Martini. No other rules than that. Just like the early years at BRC where the back of the ticket had in big bold font: “The Only Rules are there Are No Rules” So dress or don’t dress, bring food if that is your thing as sometimes too much vodka and sweet mixers gets to be too much, bring any other kind of booze you wish as sometimes too much vodka and sweet mixers gets to be too much, and just come to have fun. There will be a fire pit on the roof, bring a bundle of wood. Bring a sleeping back and fluff as the floor is cement factory style floors.
There is a Pro Domme in the building, there are a famous group of piercing/suspension people living in the building and next door is a Harley biker with a pool table who shares the roof and recently asked if his girl friend could lay out on the roof naked and sun herself.
And speaking of the famous piercing/suspension crew. It looks like the folks from CORE are having their bimonthly party that night also. They are right directly below us, there is a $5 cover charge and may take up a lot of spacing in the parking lot. That might sound competitive but it isn't. It is a fun party, I was there at the last party past 3am and managed to bump into a couple Spikes crew. It tends to be goth industrial in music, attire and atmosphere. But if you are up for something like that I recommend going downstairs for something a little different. Also their customers tend not to arrive until 10pm, where I traditionally tend to be completely plastered during a typical experiment, so if you arrive late find a parking spot for fuck sake. I have never seen the back lot (main lot) fill up but the walk to the door way in gets longer. And if you have an RV I would recommend parking further back anyway.
For those not able to go up stairs PM me for the access code to the basement parking, that lot is very limited to tenant but there is some unused spaces and a freight elevator that leads to the 3rd floor and opens right next to #301.
Bring your friends even if I didn't invite them directly oh and note that the Coliseum Bart Station is a 15 to 20 minute walk, While in the raised part of the BART station look toward the Oakland hills and south a bit and you should see the Sunshine sign. Walk down San Leandro Blvd toward it to 81st or call me to arrange a ride or hail a cab for the less than 0.5mile drive. According to Yahoo maps this is exactly 0.5 miles on this route. My number is (925) 455-2433:

I just heard today that BofA is starting to release some of the REOs that they have been holding and expect to have them list them at 10-15% below list price to get 60 offers and pick from the easiest offer. We suspect they will choose lower all cash offers over higher loaned offers out of ease. Of course this shoots them in the foot as they are now valuing the market less and causing home prices to fall.
When the Government forced all banks with Fannie Mae loans to halt listing new fo...

Last night a lot of people really didn't understand what our benefit tonight is about. It is to support my burning man camp, we have a rediculous amount of expenses that we can't afford and hope you still want to play with us on the playa. If so come by the DNA lounge tonight at 9pm. It's $10 all night to get in. And then ask me what the camp's name is and why it isn't Underworld or Spike's Vampire Bar and ...

We know it is beyond last minute, crazy and stoopid and you likely all made other plans but we were able to secure the DNA lounge in SF for Saturday night June 20th. That is less than 10 days away! If you can come please do.
Admission all night will be $10 and we have some really stoopid acts all lined up with the possibility of some high flying aerial acts, burlesque, djs, and I think I even heard a band might be there. I'm just warning now more advertisement is bound to come out before...

Check out this new site. It is reflecting a lot of what I am seeing. Fannie Mae put a stop on foreclosures last winter, just on homes with Fannie Mae loans. But I think this has put a halt on new listings in general. last week there were 6 new listings in Livermore and in April I have seen it as high as 40, inventory is around 200 when it has been up around 500 this time last year. The number of sales are up and with lower than normal new listings that means inve...

So does these ideas look like they will work?
The Lieberman/Isakson Amendment was voted on and unanimously amended to the current Economic Stimulus Bill to provide a Tax Credit, not deduction, for all home buyers at a rate of 10% up to $15,000 for a one year period to all purchasers of a primary residence (owner occupied purchases). Last year the Bush Admin passed a Tax Credit up to $7500 for first time home buyers which is great for 2008.
Amendment 353 by Senator John Ensign will pr...

Just thought I would share some of the latest info I have been hearing at meetings etc.
First: Interest rates are ticking up slightly only because the banks are so overloaded with foreclosure deals that by raising the rates a bit will drop some interest in purchasing and give them time to close the deals they have on their plate and reduce the inventory. You would think with raising unemployment, shitty stock market and a low prime market rate that lending rates would decrease making it ...

I just saw today that there are significant number of homes under $50,000 in sales price in the east bay area. Most are in Richmond but there are nearly a dozen in Oakland that might be worth while.
If you have $50k and buy a $40k home and put $10k into repairs, your tax and insurance on it will be less than $1,000 per YEAR. All these homes are 1 bed or more and how much rent do you think you could get even in the heart of murder central worst home ever? $500/month or $6000 a year in ...

People always ask me this and it depends on what market you are looking at:
Last week the news was reporting that home values have dropped over 40% since last January. And prices have dropped a lot but it depends on what price range you are looking at. Low priced homes like in the $100's contribute to the average statewide home value just like the $1mil+ homes but not at the same magnitude, they all fluctuate differently. In this market low end homes driven by REO's (Bank owned foreclos...

Tribe may go down and people are afraid to loose contact with their friends so they are posting their info in mass numbers on the Tribe blog board. I kind of laugh cuz if it goes down quickly, how are you going to get your friends contact info after the fact? It is kind of like a hurricane is going to hit so you staple a paper with your contact info on the front door of your beach house.
I don't have the 5 or 8 hours it would take to go through each blog and write or cut and paste each e...

The ERC Annual Relocation Cost Survey results have just come out reflecting figures for 2007. The following are national figures so remember costs to move someone into or out of California will be greater.
Cost to move a current employee homeowner $76,600

The market is still on a decline but they are reporting sales are up. As the inventory of bank owned and distressed properties go away and number of sales go up so will the prices and value in your homes. I am also seeing a lot of homes that are bank owned competing with condo prices driving condo prices down. Now may be the best time to invest in a distressed property or a condo if you have the funds. I know I don't have the funds but will say shoulda woulda but couldn't in my case as I ...

From a military based blog but still applies to anyone:
Best and Worst Cities for Military Families to Buy a Home
Danielle Babb
The housing crunch continues to take its toll on housing prices. But over the long term, buying a house is still a good investment. I know many of you move often, and you may not have much choice with regard to where you move. But, many people still ask me, “where should I buy as an investment?” or “where should I buy around military bases?”
With good price...

The biggest gains over the last month has been in Santa Barbara County, though its coastal high-end properties have seen a large drop. The biggest losses have been in the central valley though CAR isn't posting their data. I suspect some areas have seen price drops near 45% over the last year in some of the areas I have been watching and it has become a REO driven area (bank owned properties). Great bargains are out in that area.

Here is an article I saw that had some really good advice for buyers in this market and what to expect in the process:
Now is a great time to buy a home, say the financial gurus at the Wall Street Journal.
The Journal calls it a buyers market and offers these suggestions for first-timers getting their feet wet. While their advice is solid, it’s not revolutionary, but some potential customers might find it reassuring.
Remember this is a place to live not a stock market investment, t...

With the traditionally slow December and January months behind us, we now look to what lies ahead. There has been tremendous buzz lately in the real estate industry about the possibility of the government raising the conforming loan limit which would surely have a positive effect on our local marketplace by driving more capable buyers into the market. And, if history is any indicator, the 2008 real estate market should hold its own because during election years it traditi...

Coldwell Banker Weekly Market Watch
January 21-27, 2008
Out of curiosity, I looked back in the archives and pulled up the Weekly Market Watch from the same week last year. A lot has certainly changed in the past year as we know. But it is interesting to note the number of things that didn’t change year over year. Potential buyers are out in droves at the open houses in practically every single market. Parts of the Peninsula and the City are still starving for fresh inventory. The h...

Weekly Market Watch
January 28, 2008
On Tuesday of last week, the Feds slashed the Federal Funds rate and the Discount rate by three-quarters of a percentage point. This move is a positive sign for home buyers as well as homeowners with adjustable rate mortgages – the cut puts more downward pressure on mortgage rates. Rates have been moving down for several months now and Tuesday’s cut helps to continue this movement. Lower rates increase the affordability of homes. In addition, this ...

The New Year seems to be starting off with a bang! Yes - the headlines continue spouting the latest “factoids” about the implosion of the housing market from whatever company is cranking out the latest set of numbers. However, buyers may have reached the tipping point and seem to realize that the only way to find out if they can get the best deal on the home of their dreams is to TRY. And they’re out in full force doing just that in most of o...

From Castro Valley to San Francisco, Menlo Park to Livermore and Walnut Creek, we’re hearing that buyer activity is surprisingly busy for this traditionally slower time of year. In some areas, this can be attributed partly to the great selection of value-priced homes on the market. It can also be attributed to the fact that there are fewer buyers and fewer sellers around during the holiday season – and the ones that are in the market are very serio...

How many different reports came out came out this week? It seems that every day, another dozen or so indices, studies, surveys and reports about the housing industry make the headlines. Perhaps too many, because from what we are seeing in many of our market areas, buyers may have finally decided not to listen to all of these numbers anymore, and are instead getting financing approved, making offers, signing contracts and moving into the home ...

Just in from a reliable source in Gerlach: For safety issues the feds and BLM are closing the gates at BRC this year until the dust storms subside! The gates will not open until visibility clears to 4miles. Traffic is already backed up to the Nixon indian reservation. And with zero visibility there have been too many injuries with people not seeing the cacti and there have been many Sage Badger attacks in the desert.

Razor is a really cool person. He's the kind of guy that ALWAYS makes you feel welcome at the party. He's always nice enough to pretend to be happy to see me.. ;) If I'm bored at a party, finding Razor is a good way to remedy that. He's probably having fun and willing to share it.
October 17, 2006
Always with a beer in his hand.
He will always be my favorite drunk! lol
October 11, 2006
Razor is the bestest. He always has a hug for me.
September 12, 2006
I can't believe I haven't wrote one of these for this guy yet! Razor is a fantabulous road trip partner! He is an awesome villain! He is a the Best partner in crime! But watch out because he can randomly start speaking in tongues, or even just start swearing in tongues! He loves to cause ruckus' and I (heart) that about him! And most of all, Razor is a very good friend to have in your corner! He will help you, guide you and protect you if need be, he is the one you want to have your back! I know because we have been through some stuff together and when he looked me in the eye on the playa this year and told me that after all the bullshit if I haven't lost him yet I wasn't going to! It is very heart warming to know that Razor will be my true friend for life!
June 21, 2006
razor is naked. and as if that weren't enough excuse for me to love him, he's not afraid to speak his truth. and he likes to swear... swearing kicks ass.
i really like these things in a man, but i especially like them in a razor. remove all the bullshit-- the pretenses, the static, the clothing, just sniff some fucking pixie sticks and let it all hang out.
i really like razor. he knows what he's doing.
March 29, 2006
I think Me and Razor went to different highschools together...
March 7, 2006
Screaming, drunk, and naked into the night with a martini glass. This man will cut you in ways that make you want to tear up toilet paper into little pieces then stick them on your chin.
November 19, 2005
Watch out for this one....he is one of those fuxin' vampires!
and this A-hole stopped me from throwing a bottle at another friend's car! What a jerk! Sheesh!
October 17, 2005
Razor is my favorite cohort and traveling companion. He can heroically fend off drunken topless women and magically turn cheap alcohol into smoothly drinkable goodness, all while bitch slapping annoying drama queens and pissing on police cars after eating bacon. I LOVE this guy!
September 26, 2005
This guy is a nuisance, freak and a veritable outcast. But oddly, I sorta like him anyway.
And he IS good at dissuading other friends from throwing glass bottles at your car.
December 6, 2004
This is a guy who will never spoil your good fun even when it gets a bit indecent. If your lucky he'll join in. Oh yeah and every time I hang out with him I have a hangover too.
October 18, 2004
Soaks well with others.
October 15, 2004
Well, I've known Razor for way too long now and all I can say is Run Away. You never know what kind of crazy shit you'll get into if you hang around with his kind!
August 17, 2004
After many years of knowing Razor I have come to learn that he is an excellent balance of responsibility, honesty, integrity, easy goingness, fairness, and party animal craziness.
In short, Razor is a nice guy in wolf's clothing.
July 25, 2004
ever since we started working together, productivity has increased and profits are through the roof. i think we need a few more meetings regarding the supply closet, and maybe we can work that deal out over the copy machine. you know i'm always there for your call ;)
July 19, 2004
For a man missing half an IT band, he gets up to some pretty amazing stuff. For example, he'll drive 80 miles to help move someone he met just four days earlier. Thanks, mi amigo!
November 15, 2003
Words fail when trying to write about Razor!!
Suffice to say that he is an amazing person and I am gonna answer the call when Uncle Meow calls!!!!

I'm going to steal my friendster statement because it suits him so well. I no longer wear clown face, but hell, I'd do it for this boy!
=====================
I first met this lovely person whilst 'relaxing' my day away. he remained near and proved to be a comfortable, comforting presence. our next meeting, I pulled him closer only to (very happily) loose my clown smile. but you wish to know more about the man himself? lovely, great conversationalist, at peace with his surroundings, excellent company for any occasion. look forward to many more!
October 8, 2003
Not that I should know or anything, but Razor looks great naked!
August 12, 2003
This is the guy who knows how to plan a party. If you ever want help promoting an event, he's the guy. Truly a man of his word.
