So am I the only one that fucking hates the new format of tribe?

I know that most of you have jumped ship to myspace at this point [well, at least ted since he can't get free porn anymore...] but trying to navigate this shit is like trying to drive in a foreign country.......ahhhhhhhh!

PS I'm buying a computer/laptop soon so I will join you all soon when I'm not paying to be online at kinko's!

So I don't offend anyone.....

My buddy Mike sent this to me - it's probably going around but I thought I'd post it here anyway:

Dear friends and family:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit my best wishes for an
environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "AMERICA" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual preference of the wishes.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole
discretion of the wisher.
So have a Happy if you wish, but not necessarily Gay, Holiday Time with no emphasis on the Holy.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of that....

Peace. Mike

I just discovered Esopus

And no, Esopus is not some new type of STD....Esopus is an art magazine full of inspiration. I plan on keeping issues as coffee table books. [The latest issue has a fold out poster from famed photographer Richard Misrach!] It's more expensive than MAD and JUGGS but so what - it's worth it!

Following is cut from their website: www.esopusmag.com
"Esopus is a twice-yearly arts magazine featuring fresh, unmediated perspectives on the contemporary cultural landscape from artists, writers, filmmakers, playwrights, photographers, architects, designers, musicians, and other creative professionals. It includes long-form artists’ projects, critical writing, fiction, interviews, and, in each issue, a CD of specially commissioned music.

Published by the non-profit Esopus Foundation Ltd., the magazine has a simple editorial mission: to provide an accessible, non-commercial space in which creative people and the public can connect in meaningful ways."

AWESOME!

The New De Young

Beautiful! I actually didn't expect it to be so awesome but it was.

Checked out the Hatshepsut exhibit - it was alright but half way thru I got the heebie jeebies when I realized the majority of the items were collected from tombs. Yes, of course, it was mold spores that killed the people in King Tut's tomb and not a curse but I still didn't like the idea of it all.

There were a couple of paintings that really got me - the works of Chiura Obata were awesome. You've got to see it in person; he paints on silk and so the tones are incredibly soft. Frederic Edwin Church's "Rainy Season in the Tropics" is another one that has to be seen in person - it'll take your breath away. Both artists can be found in the ImageBase at www.thinker.org.

The Japanese Tea Garden is right next door and is always free the last hour of the day. I went over there after my museum visit, walked directly to my favorite bench in the world [right between the Zen Garden and the Buddhist Pagoda Tower] and contemplated life. Didn't come up with any answers...well, not yet anyway.

Who pays when the mayor goes to Beijing?

I was just reading how the mayor went to China for some ceremony where they were recognizing that UCSF and some Chinese University were partners....whatever! I travel with my job a lot and I know how the expenses rack up - and I doubt that lil' gavin travels alone. [How would he get coffee?] The city should pay for this? What about virtual teleconferencing? All this pomp and circumstance sucks major [insert most loathed body part here]!

Thanksgiving Schmanksgiving

Not to get all down on it, but here are some thoughts...

A couple of years back, I read some interesting stuff about how most of what Americans "know" about Thanksgiving is actually a bunch of BS. For example, the original celebration happened more around the time of St Michaelmas day at the end of September to celebrate the Harvest.

In the early days of our country, most people celebrated either Thanksgiving or Christmas but not both.

The stereotypical garb we picture Pilgrims dressed in is a 'cornucopia' of a bunch of different styles that marketing people in the late 1800's came up with to draw everyone to Thanksgiving...a holiday that could be shared by the melting pot of our country regardless of their religion. [I guess Kindergarden Pageants with tykes in famine ravaged appearance just isn't as cute...]

I used to only celebrate holidays where I could 'get behind' the meaning so I ask my friends, what is the meaning of Thanksgiving? [There are no wrong answers but you must use a #2 pencil....]

Does anyone have an exercise bike they don't need?

I need one for my living room...and yes I actually plan on riding it.....! I need to do something because even my FAT jeans aren't fitting. And no I am not the personality type that could join a gym......WAY too insecure. I just plan on losing the flab and keeping the meat, anyway - buffness is out of the question!
