As a progressive who is critical of both the Democrats and the Republicans on a host of issues, but who can still tell the difference between being screwed a little vs. being screwed a lot, I am of course hopeful about the possibility of an Obama victory in November.

If you want to know a bit of what's wrong with the United States, take a flight. Definitely on US Airways, but I wager any major airline will do.

Last Sunday I was flying home to Berkeley from Frankfurt, Germany. The route was Frankfurt to Philadelphia, 2 hour layover, then Philly to San Francisco. I was to due arrive in SF by 9 pm. Plenty of time to get the BART train home to Berkeley.

the other day while biking home from campus i decided to drop into my favorite worker-owned pizza place, which happens to be located in a chi-chi part of town. (i.e. chi-chi = high rent, upper-crusty, expensive boutiques, and, in this case, predominately white)

i parked my bike a couple doors down from the pizza place. although i love the pizza there, i don't really like being in that part of town. too many reminders of how fucked up our society is. so the plan was to get my pizza and head... read more
