Added a few videos to my Myspace recently. Siren, Kraddy, EPROM, and Jan Van Lier. The Middle Agent , DJ Rekha, and Mimosa coming soon to my Myspace. All with muh vizzies behind of course.

<div>I'm stoked on my new VJ sets and upcoming shows like the EPROM and Sleepy Head show in Arcata next weekend. I'm thankful I got the main stage of a festival under my belt last year (thanks Woo) and this year I'm stepping it up a notch or two with my offerings and abilities. I'm also grateful to have performed with notable talents over the last year, DJ's and musicians alike thanks in large part to Humboldt promoters and the Red Fox Tavern.

Big Thanks to Allisun for strategizing, organizing and motivating.
Also thanks to Accident Gallery for hosting Auralscopic in 2008.

I love all of the beautiful faces I get to see dancing in the light of my screen and syncing up to the pulse of the DJ's and musicians. I been told it's electric. I definitely feel the completion of a loop when It all gets connected.

Super, a free video converter that works... super

<div>Finally after days of searching and testing I found the most usefull hassle free software for converting video files. I am so happy that I can't not share this with the rest of the world. It's just called Super.
I found it thanks to this blog. http://thecooltools.blogspot.com/2007/08/flv-file-converter-freeware-download.html
Super is here: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
First I tried a few other freeware apps but none of them would batch process or they just didn't work at all. I garnished a bushel of viruses during this process and got my browser hijacked by an annoying yahoo process which takes me to a yahoo search engine everytime I type in a bad URL. The viruses cost me abundle to get rid of. It took a professional four hours to clean up my system. Of course some of it had been affecting my system for months already even with having AVG, Searchbot and destroy etc...

After giving up on freeware I decided to pull out the credit card and after a few hours of more testing realized that even the software that you have to pay $30- $70 for didn't work right. None of it.
This is all because I am PC bound at the moment as far as being mobile and being able to work at home. I have never had any of these problems on the G5 at the office. Never again will I ever buy a PC. In fact the only reason why I have this one is just because it was practically given to me.

Today I heard part of Obama's speech in Europe. Once again he was inspirational for a minute until I thought about how he was talking about peace but then when he was in the middle east he spent 30 hours in Isreal and only 45 minutes in Palestine. He talked about tearing down walls without mentioning the slow genocide Isreal has been committing for over fifty years now, in complete violation of the U.N. Also he has pledged to continue supporting Isreal. That and of course he sold us down the river last week by voting to give Telecoms immunity for breaking the law and violating every single americans civil liberties. Once again I have to assert that Ralph nader is the only candidate who promises to take the power from the Corporations return itto the american people. Cynthia Mckinney the green party candidate is good to. I love her for standing up on the floor of the house and (correctly) insinuating the Bush family was behind 911. But I think she is too focussed on womens, and people of coors's rights and poverty. Which of course needs to be addressed but CAN'T be corrected until corporate person hood is permanently dismantled since they are taking all of the money which should be going to education and social services as well as infrastructure.

On a lighter note...

I've been enjoying having my friends list on random. It a wonderful way to be surprised with new pics and blog entries from folks who I haven't checked up on in too long.

This has been the dreariest Humboldt summer I can remember ever having in all of my fifteen summers here. At least in past summers I could escape to the rivers but with the fires bigger than ever before this year i haven't even ventured out to favorite swimming holes save for a couples of early trips before the big solstice gift of the beautiful lighting storm which started all of these fires.</div>

    </a>
<div>I was familiar with another Secede Album, Bye Bye Gridlock, there was one particular song I listened to over and over again for a spell, Crave and Fall, but the whole album was exceptional. Recently I started listening to another CD by Secede, Vega Libre. If you were ever into mid career Orb like Orblivian and Pomme Fritz then you will especially enjoy this CD. You may also be reminded once or twice of FSOL as well. Particularly some moments of ISDN.

So yeah it's delicious rich, thick and dreamy creamy. I highly recommend it. I was good timing I recently had a craving for and broke out Pomme Fritz.

Some thoughts on what it means to be a VJ.

<div>It's always really special to me when people come up to me during a show as they are making the connection between my presence in the room and the visuals on the screen or to comment on something they saw. I wonder how many people assume what they are seeing is an automated screen saver or a video being played. I myself started out by playing my video art loops, then I started borrowing laptops until I got my own so I could mix and affect them in real time. I gradually evolved from doing slower evolving changes and transitions with audio triggers and the mouse pad to using a midi controller and getting more real time and tight with the music. For the first year or so I used mostly material from my art videos and then gradually I began adding in some psychedelic elements as well as social iconography like cartoons, graphic design elements and scenes from movies. I still sometimes do events where it is strictly all my own material in use. A good example was the opening night at Accident Gallery in September. When it is announced that there are visuals at an event that can mean anything from automated light shows and playing movies to live performance video art. When there is a VJ announced you can expect there to be a person twisting knobs and sliding sliders just like the DJ,s. However, there still are differences between DJ's and VJ's.

VJ's tend to be visual artists first and VJ's second and they got into VJ-ing so that they could perform their art in real time. VJ's play all night long. DJ's play for a couple of hours. Collecting and and creating video material is very time consuming. An audio file can be processed in a fraction of the time that it takes to prepare video. VJ's also have to have much more material and stretch what they have out over a much longer period of time.

As far as equipment goes, VJ's have a pretty hefty investment to make as well. Projectors, Laptops, software, mixers, USB controllers, DVD players, cameras, screens and rigging are all spendy things which can easily add up to ten grand or more.

So yeah when you see the term visuals you might want to clarify what you are getting for your admission price. I hope this was educational for some of you. Let me know.

Give respect to your local VJ's and let your favorite DJ's and Promoters know which VJ's you want to see more of. There are more and more VJ's getting out there all the time and each one has their own unique style and set of images which is constantly changing all the time. Even if you recognize the same clip from one show to another it is most always being performed in a different manner from when you might have seen it at another show.

Peace and Love,
