My Testimonials

July 13, 2008
Way back in 2006 , there was this guy snapping photographs of everyone in the Pirate Festival in Big Bear....he also snapped some photos of me :) before I could say thank you and if I could have a copy of the photos he has taken, he disappeared. Years later, I found him again at the events I have danced at. Every time I see Richard he is less and less of that shy person I met years before. His photographic journey in the bellydance world has grown just as much!
Richard is a fantastic person and fabulous friend - he is definately a freind to everyone!

Not to long ago, someone found a photo to remind me of how long i have know Richard. It is from one of my first years at faire, and it was taken by this man who is know known faire wide at several faires for his photos. To Richard and his wife, I was some random guy accosting them before they even got int he gate (he claims they enjoyed it). To me, they were new people to play with. I had no idea that years later not only would I have come to know and respect this man, but that i would have the opportunity to call him 'friend'.

Richard is a very caring man with a talent for capturing the faire (and since, many other events) to allow us to revisit those moments.

Thank you, from one of the many who appreciate you.

I remember first meeting Richard when he was shy and hid behind his lens wearing his daily attire to RPFS. His goal was to take a candid shot of me, and boy did he ever try so hard! He just didn't give up. Over time we became good friends and I watched him grow out of his shell. He started being more outgoing, talked to more people, and even dressed in his own faire costume. Now look at the man he's become! He's got over 200 friends on tribe, and that's just a microcosm of the amount of people who know and love Richard!

Huzzah, my friend. My favorite memory of Richard would be the day that he went to the movies with me for my 30th birthday. I still have his gift and look at it everyday to remind myself that there is someone so selfless, kind and generous out there in the world.

Richard rocks. He is super sweet, and gives great hugs, and takes lots of gorgeous pictures of all of us belly dancer girls being silly. Thanks Richard- we love you!!

It has been my great pleasure to get to know Richard this year through his appreciation of bellydance. I noticed this gentle man with the camera at almost every showcase and event in town, and soon I started seeing his pictures of Alamkara on his website. Now we all look for him whenever we dance or go to see our friends dance, and know that we'll have at least one friend in the audience. His love of dance and of dancers is a boon to the community, and his pictures are wonderful!

These days I have many friends and I have gone to great lengths to live a happy and useful life. I maintain a solid sense of ethics, I genuinely like people and overall, in spite of some aches and pains, life is good.

Sometimes, though, life has thrown a few curves balls my way. I survived, and out of each negative experience I learned something and became a stronger person. I rejected the entire concept of becoming bitter, of wanting revenge or of hurting others. Instead, I maintain my ow... read more

In my mind, Tribe has by far the best implementation and feature set of all of the social networking sites I've worked with. It is far more usable than MySpace (Ugh!) and I prefer the layout of Tribe over FaceBook by far. All things being equal, I would happily post away on Tribe forever.

Unfortunately, as I am positive everyone on Tribe understands, the social networking system has been grossly unstable for a long time (exceeding a year). I've seen downtime that stretches for days on end,... read more

Look at the Bright Side Of Life

about me
Ah, how do I describe me? How do I put the essentials of this person known as Richard into a short profile? How does one publish the essence of self into a few paragraphs? That is the puzzle and here is the answer.

I am a man with a quirky sense of humor as life is full of joy and wonder. This little ball of rock, mud and water that we all share known as Earth is an incredible place, with many secrets to discover. Our corner of the universe is filled with beings, some happy and some sad, who each have their own special story to tell. My philosophy is to take life with a light heart; I just approach each day as a new source of joy and happiness. Those things which are evil or bad get ignored, discarded or defeated; the good gets helped, enriched and fulfilled.

I've spent the day hiking the Wonderland of Rocks in Joshua Tree after the spring rains, crawling over boulders and peering at Indian pictographs. I've been on boats to the Channel Islands off Santa Barbara, and I've stared in fascination at wasps building their homes in Anza-Borrego. I love walking the beaches of California, seeing the mountains, hiking through the snow and smelling the desert after a rain.

To me life is filled with friendship; in fact, you can tell the character of a being from the quality of his friends. The people that I call "friend" are wonderful, caring beings, with whom I share my life, experiences and happiness. These are the people who listen without interrupting, understand other people's feelings, build up others with positive energy and don't tear people down with bad news and problems.

Work is very important; in many ways one's job defines one's self. I love my job and feel fulfilled at doing a decent days work for a decent wage every single time I leave the office. I work hard to ensure that every minute of the time I spend at work is for the benefit of my employer and those people whom I manage. My time is precious, so I ensure that my work does not come home with me; I maintain a strict demarcation between my work life and my home life. In this way, I ensure my life remains balanced and full of happiness.

To completely round things out, my spiritual side is of critical importance. I spend many hours studying how to help myself, my family, the groups to which I belong, mankind, life, the physical universe, spirits and, of course, God and the infinite universe. I've learned that I can contribute to the betterment of society, I can help others, and that I am a good and caring being.
I'm very happy with myself and my life, and I am satisfied with the paths that I have chosen. I am a writer, and am currently working on a fantasy novel. My hobbies include photography, stamp collecting, reading science fiction and fantasy, watching movies, painting fantasy miniatures, studying history and helping people as often as possible. I enjoy curling up with a good book, a cup of hot chocolate and listening to some good music.

I am a California baby, and over the years I've learned to love this state. We have incredible national parks, including the Channel Islands, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Sequoia, Yosemite and a dozen others. Add to that hundreds of state and local parks and recreation areas, and you have an outdoor experience that cannot be beat. Traveling is something I really enjoy, especially short day- or weekend-trips.

Add to that all of the plays, concerts, shows, museums, zoos and events (not to mention renaissance Faires) all over the state, and you've got a virtual infinity of things to experience and do. Sifting through all of this and finding a few jewels, a few special places to spend with a loved one, can by fun all by itself.
