UNMATA's Human Rodeo!!!!
The Rodeo Vision by Amy SigilI grew up on a cattle ranch, Angus to be specific. 40acres, 3 ponds, herd of cattle, 2 dogs, 4 cats, rounds of rattlesnake, 1 pig, 4 motorcycles, 1 boat, 3 pickup trucks and 4 horses.
Biscuit. The 15 hand tall brown Quarter Horse. I was 7 years old when my Dad convinced my mother to purchase a mother-daughter Horse combo that were for sale close to the ranch. Flying Star Ranch…my memories are coming back, I forgot that part. My mother worked full time and my Dad was a pilot so he was away on planes for most of my life. Minus a few years when he was laid off and played janitor at my school (my favorite years.) So Biscuit, the daughter of the team at 6 months old, and I had 40 acres and absolutely no chaperone from 7 to 16 years old when I left home. Let the ruckus begin…
She bit me, kicked me, ran me thru fences, into trees, stepped on me and tried to drown me in the pond on a daily basis. After years of abuse she was my best friend and I don’t blame her, we grew up together. These memories are some of the most fulfilling golden nuggets still left bouncing around in my mind. One more story before I get to business.
Biscuit was dark brown and pretty much invisible at night except for the white diamond on her forehead…I almost typed foreheart…awwwww. So school was about a 45 minute drive from the ranch, in “town”, and it got dark early in the winter. By the time I got home from school and then basketball practice, it was late and dark most everyday. I would park my truck at the house and then take my motorcycle down the hill to feed the animals. Here’s where Biscuit comes in. I parked the motorcycle around the corner of the barn and would walk to the hay barn. As soon a I opened the hay door, I would hear it. Biscuit, who I hardly thought was starving after grazing 40 acres on her own free will, would run to the barn. I mean run. I would hear the hooves, but I couldn’t see her. Remember? Dark brown, dark dark brown. She would get closer and closer and the sound of her pounding hooves and heaving breath was incredibly intimidating. She was huge! And I would stand by the door cowering. Just waiting for her to plow right thru me. But she never did. She would stop just in front me, just in front of me. Nostrils flared, ears back and eyes wide open. Wild and completely in control.
This my friends was the inspiration.

THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Friday nights show was more than successful =) All the dancers were amazing, Bo, Jackie, Gibson Pearl and Masheeka, Michelle, Freyja and the UNMATA/Verbatim/Street Team gang were all fabulous and I appreciate you so much! Oh and you can’t forget the most amazing MC ever- Raven. She said she wasn’t an auctioneer, but yeah right she blew it up!!!! Thanks for making the night run so smooth and fun, I know Cleo holds a special place in your heart and we appreciate your awesome love, energy and support so much.
The vending was such a rad addition as well. Melissa and Dave busted ass at the Hot Pot booth and video, love you two and thanks so much from the fam! Geisha Moth I just don’t even know what to say…..you absolutely rock my world. The games, raffles and auctions you put together made the night more than I could have even imagined. The heart you put into this brings tears to my eyes. Cleo, Bubba and I can’t begin to express our gratitude for your selfless act! And Pamela in Washington… WOWOWOWOWOWOOW!!!! Thank you for your gracious donation for the tough love bone. The excitement and heart of that auction was incredible =)
Special thanks to Something Wicked Tattoo for their super generous offer of one hour of tattoo time by Steve-O the owner (Hubby of Rebecca from Verbatim, love these two, and tattoo artist of so many Hot Potters—myself included), which we auctioned off at the show. To our surprise one of our students and good friends Jayne was the highest bidder. Muah! Thank you!
Patrick from the Capoiera studio, Thank you for the use of your space and all your support! We love your studio and always appreciate the backing your studio gives to Hot Pot and UNMATA!
The workshop on Sunday was also a huge success, we sweated, laughed and danced our butts off =) Thank you to everyone who attended and helped support Cleo! I had a blast dancing with you all.
Overall this entire experience was mind blowing. The power and support of this community is heart warming, inspiring and truly humbles me. I had no idea and can’t even begin to express the thanks and emotions evoked from this experience! Cleo is anxiously awaiting her reunion with her Frisbee and greatly appreciates everyone’s help!!! Her surgery is $3000 and we need $1500 by her surgery date on the 19th. Over $150 has been donated on line; $100 cash was mailed in and donated by a wonderful mystery supporter in L.A…..thank you so much. Plus this weekend yielded $1000, bringing us amazingly close to our surgery date goal! If you are still interested in making donations go to www.unmata.com/unshows.html#prance4paws
Thanks again for all your help and support we couldn’t do any of this without each and every one of you!!!!!
