perspicacity
seems fairly clear
Mon, November 3, 2008 - 1:03 PM"According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are both proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. For the approximately 147,000 families that make up the top 0.1 percent of the income scale, the difference between the two plans is stark. While McCain offers a $269,364 tax cut, Obama would raise their taxes, on average, by $701,885 - a difference of nearly $1 million."

they both suck
www.taxpolicycenter.org/Upload...xes.pdf"Tax policy has been a major issue in the Presidential election campaign, with both candidates proposing extensive changes. The candidates take very different approaches to tax policy. The main differences are two: first, McCain’s plans would reduce revenues by significantly more than Obama’s; and second, McCain’s would be substantially less progressive, especially among very high income taxpayers. From the standpoint of growth or simplicity, both plans disappoint. It is hard to believe that either set of changes would have significant growth effects on the economy." |

yeah, if you could afford to be taxed $700,000, i guarantee either your slick accountants would find loopholes big enough for your Lexus SUV to drive through, or you'd be so rich, you wouldn't even notice...

aha!
i misunderstood and thought this was only income tax, but this includes getting rid of the cap on social security and medicare payroll taxes, which i heartily agree with, that's why the increase is so much for higher income taxpayers

i like Roy's idea:
everyone...EVERYONE gets ONE deduction. $100,000. for everyone! after that..a flat tax rate of 25%. since i don't think i'll EVER see $100,000 annual income, it's a good idea to me! |

whoever wins (Obama) it seems that some funds will need to be looked at carefully. With AK I honestly think we may be looking at a state tax soon in the trend of less earmarks and pork barrel spending viewed as bad policy. Even if we rely on the corp oil industry for the next few years that too will not be a lasting source of money for the state to maintain civil services. One of my family said, time for the state of AK to grow up and get a summer job to pay some of its own bills. uncle sam is not gonna keep paying our bills.
