do you have access to a chiropracter? Not a quack, one who will take an xray first.

OH no !!
I'm don't know from personal experience, but I think I agree w/ Glen.
My ex had an almost chronic back issue and the only thing that saved him was his chiropractor.

(((((( gentle hugs !! ))))))

OOOH, how I wish!! Unfortunately I don't... Thereby my need for a public plea ;-{

(Thankfully, I have trusty laptop (perched on my new, cooling bed-tray) so I can be stuck and remain connected!!)

You may be subjected to bed rest...
...but try this.

A large (mostly long) bag of ice, shaped to fit like a band accross your lower back. place it there in intervals. 20 mins on and 20 mins off.

and move around as little as possible at first.

I Feel for you!
I have had a pinched/inflamed nerve in my back since November. My regular Doctor finally sent me to a specialist and I have been put on some whacky medicine. Makes you tired and then it makes you hyper. Anyway, he is also sending me to an acupuncturist. I am glad there are doctors that agree with alternative methods.

Keep ice on the area....take some ibuprofen. Also, go for walks once you can get back on your feet.

Hope you get better!

No magic
I spent Sunday and Monday with the worst 'stiff neck' I've ever had. I was miserable. Very painful.

My HMO website gave some suggestions, most of which I didn't follow (they suggested COLD, I used HEAT).

I tried different medications just for the pain, and finally after 2+ days, it went away... weird.

My advice is to rest. If it hurts, don't do that. Maybe a good massage?

I'm just getting over this....
Can someone pick up some Arnica Montana for you??? 30X strength. Take 4 of the little tablets, put 'em under your tongue, every hour. My "back lady" had me doing a stretch where I placed my leg (folded in) on the bed and leaned GENTLY forward....making sure to keep the back straight. But, hunny, go get some Arnica.....or I'll send 'em on by carrier lizard (Gawd he hates when I offer his services....)....love, H

I can't be certain without physically being there to check it out, but it sounds like you may have pinched the Sciatic nerve. My best recommendations off the top of my head: Ibuprofen will help alleviate some of the pain. Alternate hot and cold towels on the area for 20 - 30 minutes, starting with hot and ending with cold. Flexion MAY help it but I wouldn't suggest it without a trained thrapist there. Try not to aggravate it. I'll see if anyone I know is in the area.

Don't mess around with this. If you've done something really serious to it, and start messing with it without X-rays, you can end up crippling yourself. GO SEE A PROFESSIONAL. After you have seen the professional, THEN, you can go into whatever your preferred method of treatment may be. But you don't want to take chances with your SPINE.
