With very few exceptions, for me it's just eggs, whole wheat bread, walnuts, raisins, oatmeal, plain yoghurt, butter, cheese, pasta (whole wheat if possible), tomatoes (canned, mostly, low-salt), olive oil, fish oil capsules, cayenne pepper, garlic, onions, carrots, apples, blueberries (frozen), rice, brown rice, tuna, lentils, chickpeas, natural grain cereal, soy milk, potatoes, tofu, perogies (2kg bag for $4-$6), frozen shrimp (also a bargain - at safeway).

ok - I have other incentives... read more

You Do Not Have Health Insurance

by: James Kwak

Right now, it appears that the biggest barrier to health care reform is people who think that it will hurt them. According to a New York Times poll, "69 percent of respondents in the poll said they were concerned that the quality of their own care would decline if the government created a program that covers everyone." Since most Americans currently have health insurance, they see reform as a poverty program - something that helps poor peo... read more

Thank you for looking at me the way you do

To all the beautiful, kick ass, fierce and full-bodied femmes out there, I would like to extend my thanks to you.

It is for you that I press my shirts and carefully iron my ties. It is for you that I make sure my underwear and socks match. It is to you that I tip my cowboy hat. It is for you that I polish my big black boots.

I know that sometimes you feel like nobody truly sees you. I want you to know that I see you. I see you on the street,... read more

Letter: Gay Marriage Lawsuit
New York Times

To the Editor:

Re “In Battle Over Gay Marriage, Timing May Be Key,” by Adam Liptak (Sidebar column, Oct. 27):

The pivotal exchange in one of the lawsuits now challenging the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage shows that the opponents of gay people’s freedom to marry still can’t give a real answer to the key question posed in yet another court by yet another judge: “What would be the harm of permitting gay men and lesbians to mar... read more

Re: Public Notice CRTC 2007 - 5: Diversity of Voices Proceeding
Mr. Robert A. Morin CRTC Secretary General Gatineau, QC

Dear Mr. Morin,

I am concerned that concentration of ownership eventually has negative impacts on diversity of voices on radio and television. Also, I feel it is important to have independent editorial control where TV stations and newspapers have common ownership, simply because human experience is diverse and sensitive, even in a single community, displaying subtle ... read more

Commentary By Naomi Klein
Publish Date: June 7, 2007

Rather than in Iraq, the U.S. has found its "energy security blanket" next door.

The invasion of Iraq has set off what could be the largest oil boom in history. All the signs are there: multinationals free to gobble up national firms at will, ship unlimited profits home, enjoy leisurely "tax holidays", and pay a laughable one percent in royalties to the government.

This isn't the boom in Iraq sparked by the proposed new oil law–th... read more

about me
In an attempt to classify my spiritual leanings, someone once referred to me as "agnostic with Baha'i tendencies". Hmmm...

I'm quiet and withdrawn. Mostly. I'm self-propelled (likes to move about urban environments with gentle and invigorating pedal-up and pedal-down motion). I make music. I work in picture framing. And am perpetually playing hide-and-seek with my muse.
