(About the Genovese)
Genovese-American. Genova is a city in north Italy. There are also substantial Genovese populations in Gibraltar, Buenos Aires, Lima, Boston, Brooklyn and San Francisco. Formerly also in The Crimea, Romania, Constantinople, Greek Islands, Cyprus, Corsica, and Tunisia. Genovese bankers, in particular, financed many of the Spanish crown's foreign endeavors from their counting houses in Seville. Fernand Braudel has even called the period 1557 to 1627 the "Age of the Genovese", "of a rule that was so discreet and sophisticated that historians for a long time failed to notice it".

(About Rossi Family in North Italy)
Earliest known as relatives of Roberto de Rossi of Toscana: Roberto was a Humanist tutor in 15th century Florence. He also served as the Podesta of the Chianti region for a time. His life is recounted in a book entitled "Lives of the Florentine Humanists". According to family legend, one of the Rossi's helped save the life of Lorenzo Medici on 26 April 1478. In short, he 'took one for the team'. Wounded in the left shoulder, he bled upon the white tunic that he was wearing that morning in the cathedral. Afterwards a thankful Lorenzo permitted a marriage between Ippolito Rossi and his half-sister Maria Medici. Lionetto Rossi had also been given the Geneva branch of the Medici bank to manage, although he later was removed. At least one of the family (Luigi, son of Ippolito) was made a Cardinal by Pope Leo X. He was the personal secretary to Leo X, and his image has been preserved by Raphael. The much later serving Cardinal Lambruschini is also my relative by marriage of Dominica Lambruschini to Giovanni Traversaro (my great-great Grandfather). Our branch of the family removed to Campegli, in the County of Castiglione Chiavarese high above "Zena Superba". The region is known for its mine, in which the family was involved. One of the main roads in Campegli is named Via Rossi to this day and is visible on Google Earth, as is Monte Pu upon which we dwelt. My ancestors came early to America by Italian standards. According to my grandmother, gens Rossi, Zucca and Traversaro all came to the US via the Suez Canal starting right after the time of the American Civil War. As such, we are not recorded at Ellis Island. I began compiling our family tree when I was very young, and only received the oldest portions when my Italian cousins visited in 2000. I also have European cousins living in San Tropez, Nice, Monaco, Torino, and Zurich. The Austrian side of the family are gens Baumgartner. The Medici-Rossi (Del Medici De Rossi) still live near Sestri Levante today.

(About Rossi Family in San Francisco)
The earliest Rossi arrivals in the United States were mining operators. Family records point to Amador county in the Sierra Nevada, and the small town of Wallace, Idaho. However, in San Francisco my family established themselves as florists during the early 20th century. My great-grandfather Giovanni Rossi built the original San Francisco Flower Market in 1926. My first cousin "Uncle" Angelo Rossi would later serve as Mayor of San Francisco during the 30's and 40's. At that same time, my father Roberto was attending Galileo High School in North Beach. Amongst his school mates were the DiMaggio brothers: Dominic, Vincent, and Joe who would later marry Marilyn Monroe. During the Second World War he was a foreman building Liberty Ships for Henry Kaiser at Marinship Shipyards in Sausalito. My Grandfather, meanwhile was general manager of ONC Trucking. After the war, my father was in the bar and restaurant business (the 200 block of California St in the Financial District, and in downtown San Rafael).

(About knowing Rossi himself)
I was born in the Marina district of San Francisco, and have lived here in Ignacio since the age of 2. During my childhood, Ignacio was home to Hamilton Air Force Base, and I grew up watching air-shows and attending memorials for the fallen fathers of my Vietnam Era classmates. My love of music started on my grandfather's piano, and I began playing the trombone in 4th grade. Early my teachers recognized that I was a bit of a savant: memorizing entire chapters of Alice in Wonderland and repeating them back to other kids on the school bus. So they sent me off for special testing and determined that my IQ was somewhere between 145 and 165. From that time, I was sent to advanced classes in the afternoons. These included classes in Electronics, Stock Market, Historical Simulations, and the physical sciences. I already had a meaningful grasp on the history of civilization by the time I entered Junior High. When I was 13, I was confirmed a Roman Catholic. Around that time I would also join the Boy Scouts of America, and have many happy memories of Camp Marin Sierra and the surrounding wilderness into which we took many 50 mile treks. These culminated with the climbing of Mount Whitney, at 14,495 feet: the highest point in the lower 48 states. At Novato High School, I concentrated on UC admission requirements. It was unfortunately then that my Father passed away, and soon after my graduation in 1983, my mother, grandparents, and other family followed. At 21 years of age, I found myself alone and struggling with a mortgage to pay. Choosing the mortgage over UC was a difficult decision. In those days, a mortgage ment no student loans. I did however attend College of Marin for a number of semesters, much of it in night classes. During the day I worked for a division of Motorola that manufactured silicon dry-etch machines during the early days of VLSI. Later I would also work for a VAR of Gary Kildahl's Intergalactic Digital Research. Working at Broderbund Software (1995-2000) was probably my most enriching job experience, all the more so because I could ride my bike to the offices here in Ignacio. It was also at Broderbund that I had my first experience with ProTools (Digital Audio) and 3D-Studio Max (Digital Video) workstations. I also had the opportunity to be the technical laison between Broderbund and Microsoft... there are stories there, to be sure. Following the sale of Broderbund to Mattel, I left to seek the greater opportunity offered by "Dot Com" start-up Reel.Com (the online presence of Hollywood Video). There I participated in setting a world record: we were the first team to ever sell 1 Million units of any SKU via the internet (Titanic DVD's). Following the pop of the tech-bubble, I worked for PhotoTablet which was later aquired by software giant Adobe. Since 2001, I have focused on my own enterprises in Digital Audio, Video, and Database consulting. I have produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered on several albums and projects since that time. In 2006, I started Rossi Cutlery as the west coast branch of what had been Mayhawke Armoury, a seller of medieval weapons to participants and guests of California Renaissance Faires. So, plenty to know about Rossi...

(About how Rossi feels)
At heart, I am a romantic. I am fond of repeating that while people can be trusted more likely than not, a human life holds value beyond the shadow of a doubt. I feel that not all liars are thieves, not all thieves are murderers, and that even a lie murders the truth. Like many Genovese, I take my Catholicism on my own terms and not without some stain of pride. Pope John Paul II is one of my favorite Popes in history. I also admire Paul VI, Leo X, Gregory VII, and both John XXIII's. My favorite Chapter of Gospel is John 17 which when studied offers one of the greatest keys to the mysteries of faith, and when spoken as a prayer is perhaps the most powerful Christian Theurgy. Along with this pertains the Song of Solomon, or the "Song of Songs" (Canticum Canticorum) which has recently been voiced by Pope Benedict XVI as a both literal and allegorical reference to Eros (sensual love) and Agape (unconditional love) as being the two halves of a "True Love" which is both giving and receiving in each of its aspects. (see: Deus Caritas Est, 2006) This chapter taken as allegory can (like John 17) be read as a key to mysteries, in this case the mystery of Love. Powerfully Theurgic, the Song of Solomon is also one of the most important works within the realms of Kabbalah, as well as within Rosicrucian type lodges. Despite the fact that I can rattle all that off, I am not "hung up" on religion, and totally refuse to judge people based on their creed. I have made a close study of divinatory practices such as Tarot and Astrology, and have collected quite a few Tarot decks over the years: the rarest one being a limited edition created by Salvador Dali. I also have a collection of rare Masonic texts, including a work by Dr. John Dee of which only 300 are known to exist. ...past feeling, we are now into thinking.

(about Thinking Rossi)
Of Intellect, I am very impulsive. I often study obscure sets of knowledge simply for the joy of understanding. I am fascinated by the religion and history of other peoples. I am fond of the saying "Sometimes nothing is gained by comparison", which holds so well the uncanny truths within any paradox. My other favorite is "We can only realize two things in life: That which we are told, and that which we feel". I find myself at study on any number of subjects (History, Politics, Religion, Psychology, and/or Philosophy) on most days. Lately it has been economics, which most find boring, and I wish more folks would debate me. The reason is simple. I am confident and must sound boastful to friends who have yet to realize that I am just talking about my work the same way I would if I were still an IT Manager. (which itself makes for rather bland dinner conversation) One of my faults is due to my intellectual impusiveness: I tend to start lecturing on a topic at the drop of a hat. I know my faults pretty well. Enough about how my mind works...

Nouriel Roubini, also known among Economists as "Doctor Doom" for his prediction of the Economic Crisis, is sounding Bullish. Well, not so fast... He is not predicting a V-Shape recovery. He is not saying that the worst is over. Rather, he is emerging as an unlikely supporter of the Obama Team's efforts to provide Americans with Financial Stability. Still, it's no bed of Roses for the banks. Why should it be?

Said Roubini: 'In my view the Geithner Plan is one of the better ones..."

This morning, Treasury has announced details of the Public-Private Investment Program (PPIP). Within the Fact Sheet and White Paper available at www.financialstability.gov, we now see the flesh upon the bones of our effort to save ourselves from catastrophe. Have courage, my friends. This is a good plan. I do not say this merely because at this moment our Stock Market is rallying to the hue and cry. I say this because I honestly feel that I could not have done a better job myself. This plan i... read more

This morning, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has testified before the Senate Finance Commitee concerning the budget which has been proposed by President Barack Obama. Rather than join in an analysis of the proposed budget, I am taking a rather close look at the reactions of the Democrats and Republicans in the Finance Committee. ...not at what was said, but HOW. In the interest of unity, I will not be naming names.

For Senators who "Grand-stand" less, ask meaningful questions, and lis... read more

At a press conference alongside of Japanese Prime Minister Nakasone, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has advised North Korea that its threatened missile launch would be "VERY UNHELPFUL" in moving our relationship forward. Secretary Clinton's long term goal is to get North Korea to abandon Nuclear Weapons. Neither South Korea nor Japan (over whose homeland these "test" missiles often pass) have nuclear capabilities. What's the real issue here? Did Great Leader not receive a Birthday Card fr... read more

We the taxpayers like Transparency. We the investors like Transparency. We the Financial Corporations are doomed without Transparency, and so We the Government are providing it in the form of a website: FinancialStability.gov. This will be one of the great munitions in the arsenal which we are building against the crisis.

The first link at the top of the page is to the website of the Emergency Economic Stability Act. This was created during the first half of the TARP process, and it conta... read more
