So, after a 14 month hiatus (LOL) I filled in my other wing last night, so now both wings are black, as is proper. I did like the dichotomy of one white wing, one black, but it wasn't how it was supposed to be. I love me some pain-induced euphoria, guh! R.J. at American Graffiti is totally awesome (and totally hot) and is just a good guy. Now I have to decide what I want next, though I'll go back in a couple weeks to have my back touched up. Damn this tattoo addiction! I may get the little triple moon (full moon, crescent on either side) on my neck. I may get a little something in the center between the two wings, some symbol that is important to me (A Pisces entertwined with a Scorpio?). I want to get my little bat somewhere. I want to get my little winged black cat somewhere. I'd like a mermaid somewhere. And I'm saving my pomegranate and vines for the center bottom small of my back... but not for some time. I'd like to get arm work done, but my upper arms are SO flabby with loose skin (from the rapid weight loss) and I don't know how much I'll be able to tighten them up with working out, but I'm going to try..

I love tattoos. I love that I love them. I love that I don't mind getting them (I have no trouble with the pain). I love thinking up new ideas for them. Tattoos!!

I've realized I'm no longer enamoured with Tribe. Probably because I'm not using it to network in the dance community, I'm so busy with other things. Just sort of a weird, and sad, thing to realize... we'll see. I'm really super busy with the SCA right now. Doesn't mean I won't dance -- I'm organizing the 12th Night casbah for f's sake! -- but I'm not sure if I have time outside of that for dance... I think I'll still plan on Haunted Oasis in October, I just need to work on a set...

12th Night Casbah 2009 (S.C.A. event)

So, I've been asked if I want to organize the Casbah at this upcoming 12th Night (2009) S.C.A. event. I'm going to want both teachers and dancers, but it has to be in period/ SCA style (although pure tribal, a la turban and coin bra and 25 yd skirt is acceptable to me, if necessary). I can dress a couple people in period Persians if they want to come drum and dance -- Fajera and H, I'm thinking of you -- but I need all drummers and dancers and teachers to tell me if they are interested... I want to have both open floor and scheduled performance in the evening.

I really want this to go well. We have a room all night long, it has its own smoking patio. The site is in Santa Nella at the Mission del Oro Ramada, about 2 hours South of Sacramento, and we have the ENTIRE hotel to ourselves, there's no non-SCA guests. Hotel rooms are only $70.40 (including tax) for one King, one Queen or two Doubles. Damn good deal. You can make reservations by calling 209-826-4444 and saying you're with the SCA.

If you are at all interested in coming and rocking the Casbah S.C.A. style on January 3, let me know.... I need mah peeps to come play.

So, technically I am available for the August 23 Casbah Lounge, but now I've done sword I don't know what to do next. Hm. I'll have to really think about it and whether I am ready to do another one already. Doing something for the October Oasis is easier, because I can be as odd as I like since it's a Hallowe'en show and I can do something gothy. For Casbah, we stay with Eastern music and I'd want to do my trad costuming, which means I need to put something a little different together. But I'm just not sure what I'd do. I really feel best with a prop in my hands, which I know is a failing I need to work on, but I don't want to just flail around otherwise. I can zil quite well, but not sure I want to go there. I have my basket. I've never tried veil seriously and there are folks WAY better at it than me so why flail with it? I dunno, I'll go through music and see if something inspires me.

Going to Faire this weekend for the first time in forever. I'm even wearing my Elizabethan nobles, heh. Yes, I know it will be hot but that outfit actually has some benefits: I wear shorts under my hoop skirt and the hoops circulate air pretty well. My top will be warm, but dammit, I'll LOOK good.... LOL.... I'm very vain sometimes. I'd rather wear my Nobles and be looked at and be hot, than wear my Irish dress which fits better but isn't impressive. Sigh. I know, I'm a dork.

The sky is hideous. Damn smoke, damn fires. The quality of light is interesting though...

I should be having an interview tomorrow with the agency that places through Blue Shield.. W00T!!!!!!! I'm very excited. Plus, I'd get to see Faj and H every day, bonus. :-D

Slightly nervous about this Satyrday's performance. I'm worried about that cobblestone floor at Java Cafe -- anyone have any insight on dancing on it? Would it be better barefoot or better with sandals that will slide across the stones a little? I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll just be my dorky self and it's all good.

I have been inspired by various friends lately and their healh efforts. Granted, not inspired enough to get off my ass to the gym or to be eating better... but I'm starting to think more. I'm going to plan some meals this week. I have my soy pasta, I have eggs to boil, I have beans I can make into something, I can make my fave lentil stew. I also need to cut back on the drinking. I've been kinda crazy with the drinking for a while now. Oh, not like alcoholic-crazy, but definitely drinking too much. I remember all the lofty things I said before my surgery, "I'll never eat those things, I won't drink hardly any alcohol, blah blah blah." I'm pretty sure it's taking a toll on recent health, so I need to suck it up and pull it together. Besides... the calories in beer (my drink of choice)? Yeah.

No more than two beers at Java Cafe tomorrow.

Zen and the art of dancing...

I've gotten pretty zen about my performance this Saturday at Casbah. I'm not going to trip on it. I know what I can do, what I can't do and I can fill in with the "can-do" if I get in a bind. I am, however, going to practice with both swords today, and if I think the heavier one is going to give me trouble, I'll use the lighter, wussy one. I only say this because it has been a LONG time since I've danced with my sword. I think I'll be fine with my heavy one, though. I remember practicing with Fajera last summer and having no trouble with it. I'll be turbaned, not bare-headed, so I *really* should have no problem. I admit to having issues with bare-headed and slippage, but with a turban on, I'm golden.

So I've got 3 minutes of my sword routine and then a minute and half of slow, elegant taqsim to finish. I'll try not to be boring with the latter half. I'm going to practice today and then on Saturday during the day I'll run through everything in costume for A.J., as I know he is always honest with me. He really wanted me to dance at Oasis, too, but I was chicken and didn't sign up and I assume it's too late now. I need to get out all my costume elements and shiny bling and get them together, check the sword and make sure it's holding up (it used to get really rusty, really easy, and H's Dad did a polishing job on it for me).

But yeah, I think I'm okay. If I suck, I suck. I'll be around a lot of friends, I have an expressive face and if nothing else I can ham it up and make it comedy, heh... I think it's going to be fine, though. :-)

Yep, tomorrow I'll be in heaven. It'll be like Paradise where beautiful dancing girls perform for me and there are rich foods and fine drink... No, seriously! Tomorrow I'll be at Tribal Fest and for 3 days I'll be surrounded by amazing dancers and beautiful people and more fun than should be allowed. And I get to share it all with my woman, Angele. We haven't seen each other in months, I can't wait. And I get to share it all with Fajera and H, too, since we're camping together. I know it's going to be a bitch, being hot and all, but still... SO MUCH FUN. I got a little amount of stock done, which is cool. Just enough to get a taste of what will be interesting to people. I'm mostly going to network and help Angele sell hats and make friends and junk. I'm taking the day off tomorrow, so I'll be heading to camp earlier than projected. I'll get there, get camp set up, swing by the fest to see what's happening and then meet up with Angele for a few hours in Rohnert Park before heading "home" to camp and settling in for an evening of beer, good conversation, poi spinning and music and who knows... I can't wait. I so need this.

Tribal Fest awaits! w00t!

I am scrambling to get things done. I'm going to have very little stock to sell, and that's okay, I'm good with it. But I still have lots to do. I was thinking, not sure how many neck coolers I'll get done, so I have this idea: come to Kittylicious Crafts, I'll sit you down in a chair, wrap a neck cooler around your neck, spray some cooling spray on your feet and legs and either give you a light hand massage or foot massage. Whatcha think?? Sound good? I get to make new friends, everyone else gets to cool off for a few minutes!

Anyway. Tomorrow will be crack day. I'm going to my friend Rachel's in Concord tonight to hang out, and I'm bringing projects to work on. But tomorrow, I have to go to work, finish anything I wanted to do, come home and wash clothes, pack, make pasta salad to bring on Friday, go to my boyfriend's house to get the camping gear, go food shopping, pack the camp... AAAAAAAHHHHH! I wish to God I could skip work on Friday, I'm utterly tempted. I just f'n might...

I can't wait to see you all!!!

Making stuff is amazingly fun

I'm at work, my boss is on vacation, I'm the only person in the building and I'm killing time... so I'm making magnets. It's the kind where you take the flat glass "marbles" that you use in floral arrangements or whatever and then glue pics to them and then glue magnets to them. I've got a nice little collection of Mucha and Waterhouse ones, some really nifty old bellydancer ones, and some other stuff. WAY fun. The industrial craft glue is making me a bit high, but otherwise I'm cool, heh...

I am totally fine with it now. My music, now I've spliced and faded and all, is a mix of two StellaMara songs, "Baraka" and "Nida". 3 minutes of "Baraka" with sword --and I don't think I'll bore you -- and not quite 2 minutes of "Nida" to do slow-work/ taqsim to. I think it'll go pretty fast so as not to bore anyone, overwhelm them.... unless the popular consensus is that I do only the 3 minutes of "Baraka" -- I'm cool with that too. I feel totally confident about it, because the music is right and I know what I'm doing.

Whew. One less stress.

I'm realizing I'm not going to have much done for Tribal Fest, but given a choice between rushing and doing crappy stuff or not having stuff ready yet, I'll go with the latter. There will be other festivals and opportunities and such. We'll see what I get done. I have some hair flowers, I have some chokers, and we'll see what happens tomorrow. Today was a bad day, I didn't feel good and I couldn't make myself do much more work than I did. And that has to be okay. I'm feeling stressed already by other life stuff, I'm not going to make myself crazy over business stuff, especially when I was only doing basically "experimental" product anyway. Whew. I feel better already just saying it. :-)

The lowest trees have tops, the ant her gall,
The fly her spleen, the little spark his heat,
And slender hairs cast shadows though but small,
And bees have stings although they be not great.
Seas have their source, and so have shallow springs,
And love is love in beggars and in kings.

Where waters smoothest run, deep are the fords,
The dial* stirs, yet none perceives it move: (dial: sundial)
The firmest faith is in the fewest words,
The turtles* cannot sing, and yet they love, (turtles: turtledoves, dove who only coos and doesn't sing)
True hearts have eyes and ears no tongues to speak:
They hear, and see, and sigh, and then they break.

If I'm going to have anything to sell, I still have a lot to do... and I'm only bringing literally a handful of things. Call it proto-selling, if you will. This is only to see if there is interest, not to make a bunch o' profit. We'll see...

Got chokers sewn up last night, whew! Now just comes the last bits of embellishment and that'll be all good. It's the other sewing I'm not looking as forward to, but oh well. In face, I'm damn tempted to take a few hours off and blow this popsicle stand so I can go work on stuff, but I shouldn't...
