If it's shared with ObGyn, it can be unsettling to overhear "It started last night. I'm bleeding through my pants." You might, however, turn around later to see a receptionist with her pant leg rolled up, with a nasty scratch on her calf. If your waiting room is shared with Mental Health, flirting with other random waiting patients is a dangerous pastime. And if you make eye contact with a cute nurse, don't expect her to respond to your wink. She knows tics and psychoses when she sees 'em. Just saying....

It's been an unsettling couple weeks as I've watched Ami pack and bloom into the next stage of her life, something I'm happy for and proud of her for. We learned that Ami's happiness and my happiness are not the same thing, and that never the twain shall meet. That's okay, but today, after crying for an hour yesterday over my lost dream and loss of self, I'm happy at home soaking in the "me" of it. Reinforcements are good. I'm pretty certain by the end of summer I will be the naive but adventurous self that, in 2005, wandered to the Playa on three weeks notice with strangers. I liked that me, and with a little time he shall be home again. For those that haven't figured it out, I'm drinking again (thank you for your friendship, Camo). It was okay in '05 (smoke) and '06 (alcohol) on the Playa, after years of sobriety. The reasons were right. Today, they're not right, but I'm improving my outlook. Over the past year I've learned a lot (again) about the reasons I drink. Live and learn, and seek sobriety again. I shall. This afternoon, the wonderful Hilary passed by as I was lawn-tending. She had in tow her two nanny charges, Colton and Jackson. A couple of lovely kids, everyone. Jackson...well, I felt in him the uncertainty I feel in myself today and worked to gently draw him out. And at the same time felt jealously for his cool hair. Sheesh I miss hair.

May 16. Animal Complaint. A resident reported three baby squirrels were following him around in his yard. The squirrels were relocated. June 1. Suspicious Activity. Residents reported finding what they said appeared to be a human skull in their front yard. Upon further inspection by an officer, it was determined that the object was a large mushroom. June 2. Animal Assist. Police received a report of an injured horse. The horse was checked by officers and it appeared that the horse was just trying to scratch and itch. June 6. Animal Assist. Police helped a duck and her duckling cross the highway. 
On Tuesday, August 5th, I have a medical procedure scheduled that's run-of-the-mill for us older men (see picture above). The sedation involved requires that I have a responsible driver to take me to Methodist Hospital and return me home about 3 hours later.
