<div>Back in July '07, the editor of Stamper's Sampler Take Ten magazine came across my blog (http://ink-a-dink-a-doo.blogspot.com) and saw some tile coasters that I made for a cousin's wedding gift and asked me to submit a set for possible publication. I worked up a really cute design and packed up a box and sent it off to sunny California with high hopes of being chosen to be in the magazine. Months went by and I get an email from her asking me for my address so that they could send me a complimentary copy of the publication. My project was spot lighted in the Quick and Easy Gift section! I even made the Table of Contents!

In the paper craft world, having your creations published is a big deal. Mind you I didn't get paid, but I am honored that someone liked my work enough to want to put it out there to be an inspiration for others.

Pretty cool, eh?</div>

    </a>
<div>Sunday evening my very small Shi-Tzu/Terrier Mix and the next door neighbor's Pit Bull Mix decided to go after one another underneath my wood fence. "Baby" has an ego that likes to write checks her puny body can't cash. ;-)

"Baby" flayed her left front paw open and ripped one of her claws out and almost removed a 'toe'. She was hurt bad enough to require surgery to re-attach her quick. Poor thing! I feel so bad for her because I know that she is hurting. Thank goodness for the Denton County Emergency Animal Hospital. They took her right in and gave her a suite for the night while she had her surgery.

Don't you love her pretty pink bandage w/ the purple hearts? </div>

Fourteen Spectacular Tricks to Teach Your Body!

<div>1.) If you've got an itch in your throat, scratch your ear. When the nerves in the ear get stimulated, they create a reflex in the throat that causes a muscle spasm, which cures the itch.

2.) Having trouble hearing someone at a party or on the phone? Use your right ear…it's better at picking up rapid speech. But, the left is better at picking up music tones.

3.) If you need to relieve yourself BADLY but you're not anywhere near a bathroom, fantasize about RELATIONS. That preoccupies your brain and distracts it.

4.) Next time the doctor's going to give you an injection, COUGH as the needle is going in. The cough raises the level of pressure in your spinal canal, which limits the pain sensation as it tries to travel to your brain.

5.) Clear a stuffed nose or relieve sinus pressure by pushing your tongue against the roof of your mouth…then pressing a finger between your eyebrows. Repeat that for 20 seconds…it causes the vomer bone to rock, which loosens your congestion and clears you up.

6.) If you ate a big meal and you're feeling full as you go to sleep, lay on your left side. That'll keep you from suffering from acid reflux…it keeps your stomach lower than your esophagus, which will help keep stomach acid from sliding up your throat.

7.) You can stop a toothache by rubbing ice on the back of your hand, on the webbed area between your thumb and index finger. The nerve pathways there stimulate a part of the brain that blocks pain signals from your mouth.

8.) If you get all messed up on liquor and the room starts spinning, put your hand on something stable. The reason: Alcohol dilutes the blood in the part of your ear called the cupula, which regulates balance. Putting your hand on something stable gives your brain another reference point…which will help make the world stop spinning.

9.) Stop a nose bleed by putting some cotton on your upper gums…right behind the small dent below your nose…and press against it hard. Most of the bleeding comes from the cartilage wall that divides the nose, so pressing there helps get it to stop.

10.) Nervous? Slow your heart rate down by blowing on your thumb. The vagus nerve controls your heart rate, and you can calm it down by breathing.

11.) Need to breathe underwater for a while??? Instead of taking a huge breath, HYPERVENTILATE before you go under by taking a bunch of short breaths. That'll trick your brain into thinking it has more oxygen, and buy you about 10 extra seconds.

12.) You can prevent BRAIN FREEZE by pressing your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, covering as much surface area as possible. Brain freeze happens because the nerves in the roof of your mouth get extremely cold, so your brain thinks your whole body is cold. It compensates by overheating…which causes your head to hurt. By warming up the roof of your mouth, you'll chill your brain and feel better.

13.) If your hand falls asleep, rock your head from side to side. That'll wake your hand or arm up in less than a minute. Your hand falls asleep because of the nerves in your neck compressing…so loosening your neck is the cure. If your foot falls asleep, that's governed by nerves lower in the body, so you need to stand up and walk around.

14.) Finally, this one's totally USELESS, but a nice trick. Have someone stick their arm out to the side, straight, palm down. Press down on his wrist with two fingers. He'll resist, and his arm will stay horizontal. Then, have him put his foot on a surface that's half an inch off the ground, like a stack of magazines, and do the trick again. Because his spine position is thrown off, his arm will fall right to his side, no matter how much he tries to resist.

<div>Former constable is guilty

Denton County: Man, 62, pleads to soliciting child sex in Colorado

12:00 AM CST on Friday, December 1, 2006
By BRANDON FORMBY and TRACY HARMON / The Dallas Morning News

A former Denton County constable who had tried to delay court proceedings in his child sex trial in Colorado changed course on Thursday, pleading guilty to three charges of enticement of a child just days before he was to face a jury.

The plea surprised those who knew Larry Dale Floyd. But, they said, it also brought relief.

"Oh, thank God," said Patricia Floyd, who divorced the 62-year-old man from The Colony after he was arrested in July 2005.

He was accused of trying to arrange sex with an 8-year-old girl by soliciting her mother via Internet and phone conversations. The woman turned out to be an undercover police officer.

"He said he had no limits, the nastier the better, and that she needs to learn all," an affidavit from the officer said.

Mr. Floyd faces up to life in prison. As part of the plea agreement, six other charges were dropped. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 23 in Cañon City, Colo.

"Mr. Floyd is truly a man who deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison," Assistant District Attorney Kathy Eberling said Thursday.

Defense attorney Philip DuBois of Colorado Springs declined to comment after the hearing.

"They must really have had some stuff on him, or he would not have pleaded guilty," said Ms. Floyd, who hasn't spoken with her ex-husband in more than a year. "I'm totally relieved."

The news also pleased Michael Truitt, who replaced Mr. Floyd as constable after he was removed from office.

"I think that's the best thing he could have done," Constable Truitt said. "I'm very happy to hear he pled guilty and saved everybody a lot of time and effort, especially with as much evidence as there was against him."

Molly Chilson, district attorney for the 11th Judicial District, which includes Cañon City, said Mr. Floyd would be eligible for parole after six years, but parole at that point appears unlikely.

"Since 1998, only two sex offenders have achieved parole in the state. The sex offender treatment is a long road," she said.

A second parole hearing would come three years later.

Mr. Floyd's guilty plea came a day after Mr. DuBois attempted to stall court proceedings because his client said he was in considerable pain after falling in the jail Nov. 19.

"You appear much better today," District Judge Julie Marshall told Mr. Floyd on Thursday. "Your face does not bear the signs of being in pain, and your color is good."

Judge Marshall said she could not accept a guilty plea if Mr. Floyd was on medication that would cloud his judgment or if he was suffering from his injury.

"I am better, your honor," Mr. Floyd said. "I have no meds that would disrupt me mentally."

Ms. Eberling was preparing Thursday to ask the judge to allow some of the child pornography images confiscated from Mr. Floyd's Texas computer into evidence at his trial next week.

Everyone should help work the polls on Election Day at some point in their lives. It is an honor to serve, and it gave me the good feeling of being a part of history. Too bad my version of history didn't play out that night.

Bend or Bust

<div>If the stars are aligned and the plan works out, Keith and I, along with Pootie, Baby, and Pudge, will be packing up and moving to Bend in July or August of 2007. We're going to be spending the next few months paring down and getting the house ready to put on the market. When the house sells, Keith will approach is company with a proposal to keep his job and telecommute. He feels very confident that they will be receptive since he is very well liked and they know that he can do the job. My only concern about moving to Bend is my ability to find a job. I'll just keep my fingers crossed. If we're meant to be Oregonians, then all will work out.

I'm still pinching myself that moving to Bend is Keith's choice! Woot!

<div>Some of you know that I work for an elected official. I'm the ONLY Democrat in our office, so I must vote in the Republican Primary if I want to cast a vote for him. Well, today is the Primary and he's got one Republican opponent and no Democratic opponent, so he's fighting for his job, and ours, today. It's not looking too good because a lot of people aren't voting so that they can sign the Independent Governer Candidate's petition to be put on the ballot in November. At approximately 9pm, I'll know if I have a job after Dec 31.

Maybe I can graduate next semester! Keep your fingers crossed!</div>

<div>Thanks for the kind words, Kirsten, Ryan and Yet. I'm home now after a really painful funeral. I really didn't think it could be that hard. My grandmother has always been the most loving person to me. She loved me unconditionally, even when I screwed up and disappointed the rest of my family. It's going to be very hard not having her here.

I know that it gets better with time. My heart breaks now for my mother. She's not going to know how to handle not having to take care of my grandmother. I can only wish her peace.

Thanks again, guys. It meant a lot.</div>

<div>My grandmother, who was the sweetest woman in the world to me, past from this life early this morning. I am so thankful that my husband and I decided to drive back to my childhood home late lastnight instead of deciding to get up early and drive in today. I was very fortunate to be able to have spent some time with her early this morning (12:30 - 1:30 a.m.) before she had past.

It's been a whirlwind of a day today between helping my mother with the arrangements to buying plants and flowers. We had taken some old 8mm movies and put them on a DVD and we played it on a loop all day for the friends of family that came and went for the visitation. Everyone loved it.

Well, I'm off to get some much needed sleep. We have funeral to attend tomorrow before we make the four hour trip back home.

<div>I've laid in bed now since 10/4 and I'm getting so sick of it! I do however, feel much better. I'm actually sitting now at my desk. For how long, I don't know. :) I'm not going to push it though. I'm headed now back to bed. Maybe tomorrow it will be much better. The doctor is going to do a nerve test on me in the morning. I think it involves pushing needles into my flesh though. Eeeep! Hope it doesn't hurt too much.

<div>Thank goodness for sisters-in-law! My youngest brother's wife came over to my house today just to give me a pedicure! She had me soak my feet in my foot massager machine and then she clipped my nails, used the pumice stone on my heels and then lathered me up with lotion. She even massaged my toes! Ahhh....it's good to be loved!

<div>Since being sequestered to the guest room, I think I've watched every DVD movie that I own at least once. I've even sent out the sweet husband of mine to raid the local video store for more. I wish I had cable TV in every room now instead of just one room downstairs. Any ideas for some good watching? </div>
