Sahira Zedare is easily one of the most innovative bellydancers that I have seen perform. While she is clearly beholden to no single tradition, her aptitude with both cabaret and tribal styles--as well as with jazz, tap, lyrical, and ballet--permits her creativity, energy, and abundant panache to shine through each time she dances. If you ever have the opportunity to watch her do her thang, don't hesistate to take it. It will be well worth your while!

I love going up to Chicago for bellydance stuff. This past weekend I went up for Shoshanna's workshop and show. Chellcy brought her in from Cali, what a treat! "So I got my TCStyle in the mail today." "Yeah, is the article in there?" "YEAH. And this woman I know is on the cover!" "Um, whatnow?" Surreal. There's no hiding now! This went out to everyone who subscribes to the local paper. I wonder if any of my econ students are going to bring this... read more
The studio we use for level 1 and drills has a new art exhibit. The pieces have caused lots of discussions about art, aesthetics, and prices. Last night I shared that my dh and I recently purchased an acrylic we found in NYC. It's a painting of Medusa by Brad Peterson. I find Medusa a fascinating character. She's much maligned, but I don't believe she deserves it. She only got violent after the nasty treatment she received from men. Anyway... here's the painting. I love it!
