Independent media has gone big on the web. I'm Gary in Phoenix. The trend that's been building slowly for years is now spreading like wildfire. In 2001 I started an e-zine called Mediaburn. The website became an outlet for creativity - my own and others. In 2002, I began The Mediaburn Radio Weblog. Ideas on the blog resonated with people. Readers and contributors from around the world found friends who shared thoughts and inspiration.

Mediaburn offers a cultural vision; at the same time the magazine helped popularize web technologies like RSS newsfeeds. I've also published small press projects like the Mediaburn Snowboard Digest. A bunch of ideas hatched and grew. New ideas are forming. Major advances in online music are probably next. Mediaburn was an early advocate of podcasting and it will be exciting to take the next steps toward wide adoption of ideas that were previously on the fringe.
