Milton Friedman - R.I.P.

Libertarian Nobel laureate Milton Friedman died today.

from the Cato Institute:
"Prominent free-market economist Milton Friedman, recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for Economic Science, passed away today at the age of 94. Friedman was widely regarded as the leader of the Chicago School of monetary economics, which stresses the importance of the quantity of money as an instrument of government policy and as a determinant of business cycles and inflation. In addition to his scientific work, Friedman also wrote extensively on public policy, always with primary emphasis on the preservation and extension of individual freedom. Friedman's ideas hugely influenced both the Reagan administration and the Thatcher government in the early 1980s, revolutionized establishment economic thinking across the globe, and have been employed extensively by emerging economies for decades."

Structures on Mars - New Simulated Images

A new article on Space.com describes new images of the face on Mars that were taken by the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter.

Don't get too excited. The images are only simulated, and, as is expected from a mainstream news source, Space.com has jumped on the opportunity to take a crap on the theory that the face and other structures have been artificially constructed.

See the full article here: space.com/scienceastron...rs_images.html

According to author Robert Roy Britt:
"The spacecraft's High Resolution Stereo Camera provides data the researchers turn into colorized perspective views, which simulate the scene as though you were flying high over the region in an aircraft."

I don't trust these images, since they were simulated. If they were taken with a high-resolution camera, then why didn't they release actual non-simulated images? Maybe they're still trying to sell us on the idea that the face and other structures are natural phenomena, and the real pictures they took would further demonstrate artificiality.

According to Tom Van Flandern, "A natural origin is ruled out by legitimate a priori tests at highly significant levels. The most reasonable remaining possibility is that the object exists on Mars and was built by an intelligent species in the distant past." Check out his presentation, Artificial Structures on Mars:

Humans are Abnormal Primates

An article in Live Science says that in a comparative analysis of neanderthal skeletons and human skeletons, neanderthals seem more similar to other primates, whereas humans have unusual features that make them relatively dissimilar to other primates. The article says:

"When compared with our common ancestors, [researcher Erik] Trinkaus discovered modern humans have roughly twice as many uniquely distinct traits as Neanderthals. In other words, Neanderthals are more like the other members of our family tree than modern humans are."

Furthermore, Trinkaus states:

"Modern humans, for example, are the only members of our family tree who lack brow ridges, Trinkaus said. "We are the only ones who have seriously shortened faces. We are the only ones with very reduced internal nasal cavities. We also have a number of detailed features of the limb skeleton that are unique."

All of this is supportive of the "ancient astronaut theory" which suggests that humans were genetically engineered from apes by extra-terrestrials.

Sequel to The Dark Crystal planned for 2007

A sequel to The Dark Crystal is due to be released in 2007. It will be called The Power of the Dark Crystal. It will be written by Annette Duffy and David Odell, and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky. David Odell is also the co-writer of the original. Brian Froud (www.worldoffroud.com), art designer of the original movie, will return for the sequel as well.

Tokyopop (www.tokyopop.com) is also planning to publish a graphic novel that will be a prequel to the original Dark Crystal.

The Dark Crystal should appeal to people who like fantasy movies, such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as people who appreciate metaphysical, esoteric, and occult symbolism. The writers and production designers seem to be on to something, and fortunately, the sequel will feature writing and art design from people who were involved in the original.
