This year marks a momentous occasion: this is the first year where I have not felt depressed, let down, or upset about my birthday. Generally, I start to beat myself up, like two weeks ago. I get upset about past birthday experiences (I won't bring them up), feelings of loneliness, and lacking any control in my life. I reflect on the choices that my mother made at my expense, and how different it would be if she had followed through on other choices.

Now, don't read this as I had a terrible experience growing up. There were a lot of laughs, but a lot of struggle as well. And I generally have a very positive attitude about it. The norm, however, has been to reflect with very negative glasses on this time of year.

This year, however, I am vibrant, excited, and enjoying myself. I have received such lovely gifts already: a signed copy of my favorite poetry book, surprise flowers, and best of all: a fancy birthday party.

So, this Friday, June 6th, is my birthday party: Goa Awaya :: A Gemini Pshyndig
I would love it if so many of you could come.

A birthday is not about presents, nor poor outlooks, nor negative reflecting, but it is about spending time with loved ones in celebration. And this is the first year when I will really feel that way: celebrating life, being excited, and dancing till I can't dance anymore.

It is a psytrance party on Friday night at a warehouse location in NE, just off the Yellow Line, and with plenty of parking around the corner. Presales are $10, and it's $15 at the door.

It's all ages, so no alcohol, but there's a pub just down the street that has really yummy food. And we'll have food, a tarot card reader, and body worker, a digital painter, and the Epic Loot Guild will be making an appearance.

Well, I feel like I've babbled.

Dear Friends,

I figure writing a blog is better than sending out a listing, yeah? Probably not. Who actually reads blogs?

Actually, I'm heading up to Seattle Fri 8/17 - Sun 8/19 and am in need to some place to stay. I will be attending an all day event at Tenemos in SW, and just need a couch/bed/floor/snuggle space and shower for Friday and Saturday night. I plan on getting into town around 7pm on Friday, and leaving Sunday morning/afternoon. I won't need a ride (though if you want to drive me around, I won't object ;p ), and I don't smoke, eat animal, so you don't have to worry about me making your house messy.

Anyways, if anyone would possibly be willing to let me stay with them, that would be fabulous.

From some email I got last week:

Satya, or truth, is the second yama. But telling the truth may not be as easy as it sounds. Researchers have found that eyewitnesses to an event are notoriously unreliable. The more adamant the witnesses are, the more inaccurate they tend to be. Even trained scientists, whose job it is to be completely objective, disagree on what they see and on the interpretation of their results.

So what does telling the truth mean? To many yogis, it means speaking with the intention of being truthful, given that what one calls the "truth" is filtered through one's own experience and beliefs about the world. But when we speak with that intention, we have a better chance of not harming others.

Another aspect of satya has to do with inner truth or integrity, a deeper and more internal practice. Honesty is what we do when others are around and might judge our actions or words, but to have integrity is to act in an honest manner when others are not around and will never know about our actions.

In Sanskrit, sat means the eternal, unchanging truth beyond all knowing; ya is the activating suffix that means "do it." So satya means "actively expressing and being in harmony with the ultimate truth." In this state, we cannot lie or act untruthfully, because we are unified with pure truth itself.

I am a nerd and had to post this on Art of Poi.
Go on Brad, tell me you love me and you are proud.
And then teach me on AIM. Okay?
1-2-3 GO!

I would also like to point out how awesome I look in my mama's hoop earings. (Pay attention to the picture, and yes that's me being vain.)

------------------------------------____________________-------------------------
So, obviously we all go through life changes, and usually those changes have an affect on what we do day to day. Our eating habits, the way we think or interact with others, and our daily routine gets definstrated (thrown out the window. SAT word of the day!) and we're left with this big vaccum of what to do with our selves. Kind of like what will happen in Cuba if Castro's brother can't hold it down.

(um, i'm in a funny mood, I have no idea where my power vaccum idea comes in)

But since June, I've been going through some hefty stuff, and only recently have I emerged from it all, ready to kick life's ass. You know the feeling: you're on top of the world, and ain't nobody, NOBODY, gonna get you down, driving down the freeway with the windows down blasting J.Timberlake, honking the whole way.

(like I said, funny mood)

Anyways, I had put my poi down in June. I've picked them up a few times, but haven't felt it like I used to. And then, over the past few weeks, I've been dreaming more and more about it, knowing that I want to, no, NEED to get back into it. I kinda have been lusting after it. But then, tonight, I saw this wonderful movie on Daily Motion, and that's it!

I'm BACK.

I know it's a little silly, but seeing a woman do the poi and watching her flow was the first thing that made me decide to start spinning in the first place, and this video has just completely reinstated that feeling. Like a second breath. I'm in love with it again.

Okay, off to important task no. 1, loading poi-ing music on my ipod. Thank god I never got rid of that playlist.
And important task no. 2 - find someone in Portland (that I like & am comfortable with) to school my ass on air wraps, and 5-beat-weaves.

And on top of my nue love for the poi, I've decided to my hula hoop to good use besides marking my ceiling. I'm going to figure out how to get that fucker over my shoulders.

And the film: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x113bd_mawelle-episode-3happy-new-year
