The Do Lab did it again!

Its true... you really cannot set foot inside a space where the Do Lab has been spotted and not feel as though you have been whisked away to some celebratory alternate dimension where looking down, you see the Lucent Dossier kids engaged in a monkey-chant-looking ritual, and looking up, a gorgeously made-up woman on stilts brushes a feather against your cheek. Trees of light seemed to erupt from the skid row landscape and stages of pallets and speakers claimed the streets and sang with the sweetest beats you could even begin to imagine... Arriving early, the first thing that struck me was the double-decker buses being used as shuttles. Seriously... who does that? Once through the gate and on my way to the Speaker Garden Stage for my opening set, I think the next sound that I heard was an audible GASP from Riff, who had just witnessed me passing by an entire bar without stopping to double-fist. Seriously... it really happened. Told you. Alternate reality. I consider myself lucky to have been able to poke around before the crowds came. I got to see the heart and veins before the blood started pumping through them. Getting over to the stage, I put down my records and gave Jesse Wright's hard working ass a big hug and told him how sexy he looked. THEN I made note of the ENTIRE WALL OF SPEAKERS that had been constructed in the DJ booth behind me. Seriously... who does that? As I started my set, people started to trickle in. As I continued, more people trickled in. Then it became a pour. Then... I swear to god... I bent over to rifle through my CD case, found the one I wanted, then looked back up to a damn near packed floor. I was amazed. BOOM WOW indeed. FURTHER... not only did the crowd show early, but that stage was packed and pumpin the entire night. Here's some highlights: 1. Everyone that made it early to catch my set. Yer Uncle Saynt loves you. 2. Marques Wyatt's set. Seriously. KICKED ASS. 3. Imagika. Yer Uncle Saynt hasn't traditionally been a huge fan of the dub stuff. It's growing on me. It's her fault. 4. Lucent Dossier. If the world is a stage... they are the acting coaches. 5. My hot girlfriend's ass. What? Everyone else made comments about it. I should too. 6. Ianator's Stressed Out Tribe Called Quest remix. Sorry man... I'm totally stealing it. The decor, love, and passion that went into creating the event goes without saying, nor could my saying do it justice. Seriously... who does that? The Do Lab does. Thank you Do Lab. So it seems that yer Carnie Uncle Saynt has finally managed to get his shit together and stop drooling on himself after Alma Paradiso. That was an amazing event and THANK YOU again to all who attended. As such, we're going to do what yer old Carnie Uncle does best... PARTY!!!! JUST ADD GUMBO! July 4th @ Saynt's Pad First, Uncle Saynt is opening up his humble home to friends and family. It's a very small, casual, 4th of July Celebration in Venice. Essentially, there's a courtyard out front that fits maybe 150 or so people who come from all over to hear the Gumbo Brothers jam in the courtyard with whomever drops by. Last year, we had a horn section comprised of members of Beck and Macy Gray's bands, in addition to some stellar local cats. Whatever the highest form of joy, gratitude, and excitement might be when mixed together is something we would say if there were a word for it. Maybe there is...Community. Fuente Eterno '08 seemed like an uphill battle from the start. Our intention as organizers was to do whatever it took to ensure that the Oasis that had become our second home, and the family that had become an extension of our own could endure. We wanted to make sure that our community could again share in this magical place of cleansing, connection, and contrast. We put the call out, and it was answered in such a profound and deafening way, that we were humbled. This event happened because of YOU. With the resources that we gathered through advanced ticket sales we were able to send crews down to clean, build, and create the Paradise that you all experienced when you arrived. We REALLY hope that as you looked around at the bridges, showers, hot springs, re-built structures, and faces of the family there, that you saw your own reflection. There was a TON of work, but when we started seeing the joy on everyone's faces, and that familiar excited buzz started to fill up the canyon... it was more than worth it. We will never be able to express how deeply we love and appreciate our community that allows us to run around like maniacs ( or lushes, depending on who you're talking about ). Thank you guys SO MUCH for not only sharing this intention, but embracing it, and making it yours. We are honored to have friends and family like each and every one of you. With that, there are some specific people whose efforts before, during, and after the experience was so key, that it could not go unspoken. TURO and FLASH ( Dru ). There is nothing that can be said short of: If these 2 were not involved, Fuente would not have happened. If you walked on a bridge, showered, used most of the hot tubs or bathrooms on the non-stage side of the canyon, danced on the stage, laid on the RLD beds, stayed in the RLD at all, camped somewhere that wasn't covered in piles of ash, or snuck in a sip of almond cordial... you did so because of these 2. They spent a total of about 3 weeks before, during, and after Fuente working their butts off so we could have the experience that we had. We all owe them a tremendous leg humping. Mike Insane by the same token came down and spent over a week building with us and getting the event ready. Not only that but was constantly on top of everything during the event INCLUDING a KICK ASS SET. Shiho and her fearless Rangers were on top of everything. They added a level of safety and comfort to the event and certainly made it easier for us to breathe. They are a total staple of future events. Rabbit and 20Meat from Fluid Sound have had our backs since the first Fuente, and once again, they pulled of clean sound in a crazy remote location. Only these guys can do it. Lisa Han was behind organizing all of the performances that you might have encountered and she did so with her unique style and flava. Our sista from anotha mista. Brutus lugged out the stage for us the weekend before and returned later in the week to lug it back out. Not only that, but did you hear his music? The man is unstoppable. SO... School started this week. Dancing for Lynn

Lynnsane is a dear friend. Many a night while I was living in Long Beach, we'd hang out at the local spots or she'd come by my place or Rhines' and hang with us there while we just played music. Her love and energy is infectious as anyone who knows her can attest. I've always thought that the woman was unstoppable, and now it appears I was right. I am more grateful than words can express that she is on the road to recovery and that she has had the support of our family. Seeing the way everyone pulled together on New Years and since has filled me with a renewed sense of pride in all of us and filled me with a sense of awe and Lynn's superhuman resiliency. She's home now and under the watchful eye of friends and family alike, ALL of whom have been absolute rockstars in dealing with this sad and sudden event. Spanning diverse cultures and mythologies, the Phoenix has long been a symbol of rebirth, resurrection, and immortality. Born of fire, this mystic animal lives hundreds of years. Sensing it's end, it builds a nest of cinnamon and consumes itself with the fire that burns from within only to be reborn from the ashes of this dramatic end. In the distant past, this inspiring creature sounds a clarion call to remind us that what was once consumed by fire, can be born anew. Our Oasis, our Paradise, the place where our souls gathered to dance and drink in the simple delight of togetherness... was taken by fire. This clandestine locale that has been our family retreat for the past two years has suffered a mighty blow. The family to whom the stewardship of this inspiring place has been granted is left with the ashes of its former glory. They have become like our own family in the past few years. Given of themselves and their beautiful land so that we might have a place to come together and be hopeful and inspired. Family is non-negotiable.
