Our beloved pussycat Hemingsmurf Becker, 11 years old, passed away yesterday at approximately 4:15 pm at the vet's office. We put him to sleep after he suffered three violent seizures within the course of an hour and a half, going blind and becoming partially paralyzed in the process. Mr. Kitty and I agreed, as well as our vet, that it was time to end Smurf's suffering. We held him, petted and talked to him in his final moments as he was put to sleep. He didn't suffer a moment longer.

I do not regret that we waited as long as we did to make this decision as his health deteriorated over the past three months, because it gave Smurf a chance to have a second childhood, where for the first time in his life he was light enough that he could hop up in our laps anytime he wanted to (and he wanted to constantly!). Nor do I regret ending his life so soon, at only just over eleven years old. He had started to suffer, and I would not wish that on a pet we so dearly love.

Our house and lives will be quieter and maybe a bit emptier for now. Nothing could ever take Smurf's place. He was a one-of-a-kind cat, brimming with love and a childish innocence. I will miss holding him in my lap, petting him as he leaned against me on the bathroom counter, and his strong, diesel-engine purr. I will miss his big, gorgeous eyes and the sweet way his fur smelled. Most of all, I will miss the look of love that was exchanged everytime he and Mr. Kitty gazed at each other - MK's face always held pride and deep warmth for his feline son. It is a priviledge to witness such a loving connection.

He is survived by Mr. Kitty and me, as well as his non-biological sister Frankie, and was loved by many. Rest in peace.

While SF Pride supposedly caters to the LGBT(QQITS) community, it is an unfortunate reality that the "B" part, standing for bisexual, is all-too-often left out. This year's San Francisco Pride Parade internet/cable/network coverage was no exception...here is the letter I wrote to KRON 4 chastizing them for leaving the bi community completely out of their coverage. If this bothers you, too, I encourage you to write to them as well: 4listens@kron4.com

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear KRON 4:

My name is Amy ******, and I am the founder and organizer of The Chasing Amy Social Club, a bi-supportive women's social club that was founded in July 2001, has over 500 members, and caters to the Greater Bay Area.

Sunday's 2007 San Francisco Pride Parade marked our first year marching as a contingent, including our very beautiful float. We were one of two bisexual contingents in the entire Pride parade, and with our early position in the parade (#57, right in front of the lovely and talented Jan Wahl), we hoped that this would mean we would be included in KRON's webcast or television broadcast. This was very important to us, because there has traditionally been very little visibility for bisexuals in the LGBT community and especially in the San Francisco Pride Parade, and so this year we were hoping to help change that. Bisexuals are all too often the silent "B" in LGBT, under-represented at best, and at worst completely ignored and ostracized by the LGBT community. The Bay Area Bisexual Network's contingent was placed near the end of the parade last year, and late in the parade again this year...so we knew that they unfortunately wouldn't get any airtime this year, either.

But while lesbians, gays, and transgendered persons were well-represented by KRON 4's coverage, sadly, not one single (identified-as-)bisexual person was interviewed, mentioned, or broadcast during the webcast or "highlights" show on Sunday night. Instead, there was ample coverage of many of the other contingents both in front of and behind The Chasing Amy Social Club, many of whom simply marched with a banner. We spent a lot of time, energy, and money coming up with a float, fabulous costumes, and more importantly, a vital message for those watching the parade, that bisexuals DO exist, many of us ARE out and proud, and we DO belong in the LGBT Pride Parade...but alas, that message has evaporated, fallen victim to broadcasters who didn't see fit to represent the Bisexual Community at all. What a shame. I'm less upset that the CASC's float didn't make it into the broadcast than I am by that complete lack of representation for the Bi Community!

So much for respecting this year's theme of "Pride without Prejudice"! KRON 4 demonstrated yet again that even heterosexual allies of lesbians and gays, who were featured in KRON's coverage, are more important to the Pride Parade than bisexuals. Yet again, the "B" in LGBT is swept under the rug, left unrepresented, left silent. That sounds more like prejudice than pride to me...

Very Sincerely,
Amy

My fabulous friend Chave recently posted on here that Old Navy has decided not to carry plus-sizes for women in their stores anymore. My immediate thought was, that's ridiculous, why would Old Navy do such an idiotic thing??? I was obviously in such denial!

Sadly, it's true.

Their official party line is that they did this in order to "provide plus-sized women with even MORE choices in their online store".

That's a bullshit explanation if I ever heard one! What choices are they really offering us? The choice to buy a bunch of stuff online that we can't try on, don't know if it'll fit correctly or look nice in person, pay shipping that we wouldn't have to pay if we could go to an actual physical store, and then have to pay yet again to ship half of it back because it just didn't look right on but we had no way of knowing that by shopping online??? That doesn't sound like much of a choice to me...other than the choice to stop shopping there!

So I did what any self-respecting big-butted woman with a healthy self-esteem would do: I called and officially lodged a complaint. The Old Navy customer relations woman I spoke with, Tracy, agreed with me. After all, she's a size 24, she knows how hard it is to shop for decent, cute, reasonably priced clothing if you're over a size 12!

Now I'm asking you to do the same: Call those size-ist bastards over at Old Navy and tell them you think it's ridiculous to remove women's plus-sizes from their stores, that it's treating us like 2nd class citizens and basically tells their plus-size customers that they aren't as valuable as smaller-sized women, pregnant women, men, children, etc.

Call: 1-800-OLD-NAVY (1-800-653-6289).
Press 4 for general Customer Service inquiries.
Then press 2 to offer feedback about their stores.

Why call instead of email? Well, if you email, they'll just reply and tell you to call (that's what the customer relations employee told me).

Why call at all? Because you have 5 minutes in your day to help improve the lives of all of those plus-size divas you know and love, whether it's you, your sister, your mother, your daughter, your girlfriend, or your big-butted female friends! If you aren't a plus-size woman, you probably don't realize just how few options we have for clothing shopping, just how hard it is to find clothing in our sizes. So for a company like Old Navy to start carrying plus-sizes in their stores, and then as soon as they've got us hooked, to yank that away from that is just plain cruel! Our money's just as green - they should treat us with the same amount of respect as their other customers!! Even if you're not a plus-sized woman, please take the time to help us out here!

Viva la derriere!!

*NOTE: Please forward this on liberally to all of your friends, family, coworkers, etc.!

Miss Kitty has Amazing areola's.......8)
September 17, 2006
Dear Miss Kitty is just amazing. She is the consummate event-planner, putting together delightful distractions of all sorts--and of course, she and her elves make it all look effortless. Plus, almost everything she throws ends up with ladies taking their shirts off, whether that's part of the billing or not.

As a person, where to start? Amy is a most excellent friend. She is ever compassionate, insightful, and strong. Amy is beautiful and stylish, and willing to help others by sharing her talents and positive attitude. Amy rocks is so many ways!

And she has the biggest areolas in the world.

There's a special vibe to any event where Amy's in attendance. The women go nuts! I've found it lowers my inhibitions and raises my hotness quotient.

Aside from that, she's a generous, affectionate, neurotic, fashionable, awesome chick! More people should get to know her. Then she can take over the world.

Amy is so cool that it would be impossible to relate it on a mere website. She also wouldn't have enough hours in the day to put in here, I'm sure that's why her profile is so understated. I'm a big Amy fan and will probably write another testimonial.
