A few stray questions about life: why is it that any conversation that goes on long enough will drift toward those things your mother told you not to talk about at the dinner table or with relatives—politics, religion, ethics, sex, or violence? Let me know if you have answers to this weighty question, or if you can tell me what the meaning of life is...

Brian is my best friend. He is supremely intelligent and thoughtful. He has a penchant for reason and is sure to talk you out of all of your superstitions and irrational beliefs. He is cute and witty. He is also as friendly as he is smart. He is well traveled and has not lost his intellectual curiosity over the years. In fact, I believe he thinks more deeply now than when he was in college. He loves good food and exercise. He is outdoorsy and culturally-minded. He likes the beach and philosophy discussions. Do not cross him or he will whip up a chemical brew that may be inimical to your health.

A few of my own thoughts:
I suspect that we have not been put here for any particular reason, except that the universe produced us by a combination of happenstance and the laws of physics, evolution, and so on. So, in the narrow sense of this ...

The psychiatrist David Viscott once said, "The meaning of life is to discover your gifts and talents in this world; the purpose of life is to use these gifts to help others." (my paraphrase)

Nietzsche's test for how meaningful and satisfying your life is: Would you want to live it over and over, ad infinitum?
Consider Nietzsche's often quoted passage from The Gay Science at section 341:

I've used that approach in the past, telling people that questioning what is the purpose of life is akin to asking what is the weight of blue, or some such analogy.

Some quotes I found online:
Joseph Campbell:
I don't believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive.
Albert Camus:
