*RANT WARNING* On Equality and privacy

So I have a bone to pick, it's one I've been picking probably as long as I started understanding the issues of bigotry, bias and inequality.

My understanding of this country is that all people have the right to religious freedom either to practice their own faith or in my case to practice none. It is also my understanding that Religion is not allowed to be used to create laws in this nation for the same reasons that since we can all practice our own faith it would be counter productive to try and enact laws that would limit people's basic religious freedoms if they do not match your neighbors.

So equality, or in this partular rant marriage equality;

IT seems to me from all I've been reading the people opposed to gay marriages have a religious bias against allowing gays to marry.

Well if I understand how our country woorks(see above) how is this any of those peoples business as long as it does not infringe on their basic rights relgious or otherwise?

This whole issue just baffles me, they feel the gay lifestyle is wrong becuase their bible tells them so, or they themselves are uncomfortable with it. Well so what? How does it affect you, I mean really truly how the hell does it affect you? Point of fact IT DOESN'T but because you cannot stand to see other people who's lives and loves scare or, sadly, disgust you, happy? TOO FUCKING BAD!

I'm so sick of the arrogance of these people, I'm damn sick of the hatred and bigotry.
I know I have religious friends and please do not think I'm trying to blast your faith but for goodness sakes WHY MUST THEY BE SO DAMN CLOSE MINDED? Why can't they be happy with their faith and let others be happy with theirs? Even when it differs or is even absent. ANd when I say they I am only refering to those who oppose it, I know there are many people, religious and not, who do not oppose it.

What is it so friggin wrong with two people loving each other? Why can't you just mind your own business?

I feel the same way about the continual fight over abortion, I am pro-choice and contrary to what some people may think that does NOT mean I am pro abortion, it means I am for it being a decision made by the indvidual, I believe the government is not capable and is not an acceptable decision maker in my private life. Certainly not as long as it is mostly men! And yet again this fight is also something that is for the most part based on people's religion.

*sigh* I just don't understand why people cannot mind their own business.

Good news for gay rights!

"Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has twice vetoed legislation that would have granted marriage to same-sex couples, said in a statement he respected the court's decision and "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

I am thrilled that he made this statement it seems he has either been spoken too by others about this issue or he finally realized that this issue is not and should not be voted on "by the people" this is NOT a legal issue it costs no one any money it does not affect anyone's personal life except those who wish to marry and have been denied that right for prejudicial and bigoted reasons. Yes it is a bit of cop-out statement, he could have remained silent but instead he chose to support the courts decision and that in and of itself is a victory.

I have changed my opinion on him because of this and hope he continues to be this fair minded in the future. I'll be watching him that for sure.

I also really hope that there are not enough signatures to get in the November ballot this year. The Human Right Campaign website has set up a fund to help fight any anti- gay marriage groups regarding this monumental change. Go to their web page at:

www.hrc.org/

TO make donations and just get more info.

My biggest problem with this fight against gay marriage is that it is very clear it is not a legal issue it is the right of every citizen of the country to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, marriage is not and should not be governed by our courts or legal system where it concerns consenting adults. Wether they are a man and woman or gay couple, whether they are asian, black or latino. Anyone who says this is not a bigotry issue is incorrect this is an issue of bigotry, this is a certain group of people denying a basic and fundimental right to another based purely in their inability to understand their choice of life mate because it does not work with their idea of the world and how it works.

The thing that really upsets me is that these same opponants try to make out gays as someone evil akin to pedophiles or acts like beastiality which nothing could be further form the truth. When are human beings going to learn to stop being so scared of differences in each other? Especially when those differences cause no harm nor affect their own life?
