Learning, and Loving Your Veil! - workshop with Selayma Anan
Learning and Loving Your Veil! - Workshop with Selayma Anan- Fruitridge Recreation Center in Sacramento, CA
- November 11 & 18
- Class size strictly limited to 10
- $30.00 for one week / $50.00 for both weeks (must have some experience to take just second week)
- 7:00pm
Week 1 -- This first class will focus on handling, technique and skill development, as well as discussion of fabrics and types of veils. We will be working on presentation, slinky moves, and hypnotic spins! And yes, I too, hated my Veils . . . however, you, too can learn to understand and embrace your Veils, at least with some affection!
Week 2 -- The second class will cover a choreography, utilizing all theory taught in the first class, as well as learning to "bond" and become one with your Veil; adding drama and/or theatrics to your presentation and performance! If you feel have had, and are comfortable with handling a veil, you may take just the second class.
Veils are required for this workshop . . . One 3 yd rectangle, and one circular veil (the bigger, the better!). Contact Selayma for more information on purchase options and guidelines. Cost of veils not included in workshop fee.
Sword 101 - Back to Some Basics! - workshop with Selayma Anan
Sword 101 - Back to Some Basics! - Workshop with Selayma Anan- Fruitridge Recreation Center in Sacramento, CA
- December 9 & 16
- Class size strictly limited to 10
- $30.00 for one week / $50.00 for both weeks (must have some experience to take just second week)
- 7:00pm
Week 1 -- The first class will cover types and purpose of various sword styles, handling, technique and yes! Skill Development! Not to mention developing your "persona" as a sword dancer and presentation. Sometimes I call this class "Balance Basics" as most techniques, tricks and movement can be performed with any object that is being balanced on the head. So if you're not quite ready for the long, sharp pointy object (the sword), then bring a basket, tray or pot (non-breakable, please : )
Week 2 -- Surprise! A sword choreography! And the choreography will be taught to a piece of music by Zel Hayal . . . for information on how to purchase the music, please contact me. If you have had, and feel comfortable with sword, you are welcome to take just the second class.
A sword is preferred for this class, again, however you may bring a basket, tray or pot (non-breakable) . . . you will still get much from this class, although when we hit the choreography, you will have to make a couple of adjustments vs those with a sword. Please contact Selayma to discuss all options, as well as for information on vendors offering dance swords. Cost of sword, baskets, trays, pots, etc., are not included in workshop fee.
Separation of Tribe Sites
Hey, Everyone . . .Just wanted to let you know that moving forward, you will see very little info for Shimmy coming from my personal Tribe, or MySpace for that matter. You will get quick reminders from these, however, for all details, you will be referred to www.people.tribe.net/shimmyforthecure and/or www.myspace.com/shimmyforthecure . . . and/or the temporary website at www.shimmyforthecure.bravehost.com.
Also, to help balance info being put out there, etc., vs duplicating a bunch of stuff, again, sites of performers/volunteers will be referencing quick reminders, and referring back to these other sites for full details as well.
SO! If you do not belong to the Shimmy Tribe or the Shimmy MySpace, AND you want to be kept up to date with ALL information in one quick and easy reference, please log into either/both of these and shoot me an 'add' . . .
