WARNING: VirtuMonde PC Virus :-p

   Tue, October 30, 2007 - 1:41 PM
Not a nice virus . . . apparently it's relatively new, and it made it through my spy/anti-virus program. I was one of the first kids' on my block to get it! Yippee!

So . . . what it does is allow other stuff to crawl into/through your system, including Blackdoor Trojan and Trojan-General, and a BOAT-load of spy and adware, along with behavioral "malware".

What these little lovelies do is attack your administrative files, changes things, to help allow entrance for their buddies to come and play, as well as affect your keyboard functionality re: keyloggers that track everything that you enter into a website, and all websites visited, etc.

This is a gradual process of deterioration . . . it took over a week for me to realize there was something there, and initially I was told that it wasn't "contagious" . . . which I don't believe at this point, and just had someone else confirm that it probably is . . . a week after I started actively trying to fight the infiltration, my system was in-SANE! I'm just now getting back online after being off completely vs sporadically for over a week now (talk about withdrawals!).

The first indication that I had something wrong was having an anti-virus program called "AVSystemcare" load onto my machine and start running, which included allowing in more ad/spyware. I was able to remove that one pretty easily, however then another one called "Bestseller Antivirus" locked in and I was NOT able to remove that one . . . it took my downloading SpyBot Search & Destroy (still free!) to get the ad/spyware all removed, as well as unlocking a file in the BS program so I could finally remove that from my program files. Then I had to take it over to Webroot so that they could clean-up the rest of my system as I couldn't get online to apply the patch that I needed. Whew!

Mine is now clean and virus/ad/spy/mal-ware free! Woo-Hoo!!! If you find that you are seeing some of these things, it's not your imagination . . . your "baby" is sick, and should run your "baby" to your nearest emergency room! Or at least call your customer support for your spy/ad/anti-virus program : )
