Word is Bond

Be My Muse!

   Mon, January 7, 2008 - 1:40 AM
(pic: "Muse Reading a Scroll" Greek vase: 425-435 b.c.)

It's something like 1:40am
and I'm feeling a little blue.
Things are going ok
but I'm not one for just "ok."

I haven't written anything that I feel
particularly excited about
in what seems like a long time.
It doesn't seem like writers block.
It just seems... I don't know...
like I'm uninspired.

The thing is
I'm usually the one getting people excited
about their writing.
Now, I'm the one who feels
the dull pull of gravity
upon my consciousness.

I'm sure this is just a temporary funk
but I sure could use some inspiration.
I invite all of you
to post your favorite quotes
about writing and the joys of it.

My mind has simply slipped out of gear
and I'd love something to click into.

Inspire me!

The night we met I knew I needed you so
and if I had the chance I'd never let you go.
So won't you say you love me,
I'll make you so proud of me.
We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go.

So won't you, please, BE MY BE MY
be my little muse
Say you'll be my darlin',
be my muse now.
Wha-oh-oh-oh.

I'll make you happy, muse, just wait and see.
For every poem you give me I'll give you three.
Oh, since the day I saw you
I have been waiting for you.
You know I will adore you 'til eternity.

So won't you, please, BE MY BE MY
be my little muse
Say you'll be my darlin',
be my muse now.
Wha-oh-oh-oh.

Whimsical Musings
Is she the last and brightest thing you see,
As you lay consumed in lakes of fire?
Does her ascent to heaven make you free,
As she leaves you to burn but not expire?
Like he who had his liver daily torn,
Only to return to him with 'morrow;
Or he whose power fled when locks were shorn,
Who saw the light but lost it to his sorrow?
For wicked muse deserts you at her whim,
A faithless lover loving others when,
She knows the time has come to sink or swim,
Yet still she goes to bless another pen --
. . . Take heart, my friend, your angel will return,
. . . The moment that you cease to feel the yearn.

(I wrote this sonnet during my last spate of writer's block. I did it as an exercise. I decided to choose a form and write something to fit it -- even if it sucked. It helped me break through my stuck place and maybe it would help you too. And because I was having trouble figuring out what to write about, I chose to write about writer's block. I used the form of the Elizabethan sonnet, something I'd never written before or since. Maybe that would help. Wanna give it a shot?)

quatrain
Thanks Swarm!
That was a fun little diddy!
I could see it played on an acoustic guitar
in some cafe in Santa Cruz to a standing ovation!
You always get mad respect from me!

Caroleena has a great suggestion!
I do jump into form when I am at a loss for words.
My favorites are Ghazals, Pantaums and quatrains.
I LOVED your sonnet!
Hey... would you ever consider reading your poetry
at ELYSEUM?

I'm gonna try writing a simple quatrain here...
>>
After a turbulent life of woe and abuse
some resort to the needle, pipe, pills or even noose
but the truth is that a "looser" has nothing to lose
-it in the taverns of ruin one encounters their muse
<<

... there... I feel better already!

Julia Cameron writes much on this topic in her books.

I have learned to keep tabs on when I am really inspired and when it is just gone. I am not the best at journaling everyday, so I do my best with it and keep mental tabs.

DaVinci had ways to set his creative mood. He employed the fragrance of flowers for example (Star Gazer Lilies are a great choice they bloom for ever)

I find certain movie genres and poetry sets my mood pretty well. I have also learned to watch for what kinds of things stress it. IE: certain people are passion killers and I avoid them while working, accounting and cleaning also kill it for me. Certain times of the day, certain seasons, and types of weather also influence it.

When I have no inspiration I usually do more administrative type tasks associated with the project - just to maintain momentum.

I hope these ideas help you too!

I'll inspire u.....
Writing is a gift that you can tuck away
and bring it back to light whenever you decide

Yes, you write to write
but do you write at night when all you see
are shadows looking back at you?

Writing is your gift
share it with the world, share it with those shadows
looking back at you
Let the words be words even if they sound silly
they come from your Heart

Yes you write to write
write for us to read
Let the shadows out
