<div>last nights boutique meeting was downright awesome and for the first time in ages, I left a meeting in a good mood and wasn't hoping for the untimely and fashion-backward disappearance of a few members of our little clan. we laughed a lot but covered a lot of ground as well. I wanted to hug everyone. For the first time, I am thoroughly excited to be camping with these folks and imagine, for the most part, it will be awesome. My First Theme Camp (tm) after three years as an indy camper...

For everyone stressing out in The Last Days, just remember why you are doing this, remember what you are pushing yourself for; The rewards are multifaceted and plentiful and come disguised and come stark raving nekkid, possibly on fire or wearing bunny ears.

I am so excited to see nothing but Playa and art and fire in my periferal vision...it's been too long...

Not for the first time has someone mentioned PDX rocking it especially hard this year. We have the entrance to center camp, three center camp camps, the temple, and quite a few really kick-ass art vehicles. we are really pulling something together portland!</div>

    </a>
										<div>This is from an email I sent to BRB on steel bottles, plastic bottles etc :

So my ex’s little sister told me about this (guy who saw Ferris pass out at 31 flavors last night) and I dug around a bit and found she was correct; Nalgene or Nalge, their parent company, makes devices used in animal testing. So, even if they now are hopping on the BPA free bottles, they still utilize plastic (Landfill!) and Nalgene/Nalge helps make all the animals, delicious and non-delicious, cry (poking fun at my meat eating, animal loving hypocrisy here). I will be weaving my water bottle on a hand loom from sustainably harvested, grass fed rainbow. Below is a paraphrasing from the following link (but there is a lot more info out there and I imagine most of you know this already…)

http://www.colorado.edu/studentgroups/animalrights/nalgene.html

Nalgene = Nalge Company = subsidiary of the Sybron International Corporation. The Nalge Company makes laboratory including includes devices used in laboratories for experimenting on live animals in medical research. They make a rabbit holding contraption said to protect the animals from breaking their backs in the futile efforts to avoid the pain they are being subjected to.

										<div>As many of you take off early and many of us are in the last weekends of preparation for THE BEST WEEK OF THE YEAR, I had an idea.
We all have different routes down to Black Rock City but we all pass through many a small town, pass many a small old church or barn or general store. I would like to challenge absolutely everyone to shoot at least one such building on the way down or the way back. Squeeze in the (shudder) theme if you like but it’s kind of inherent as is. I will set up a space to upload the images when we get back.

1)	I am interested to see what we all shoot, what draws our eyes and how we shoot it
2)	I am curious how many of us shoot the same spot
3)	If we have enough work, we could have a little show of our most interesting work and chat and build community and meet more of each other.
Meow?

<div>After weeks and multiple layers of mosquito-made mountainous masses on my legs, I have to wonder, why me? Why am I just so darn delicious despite the layers of bug spray? I am tired of being buffet to the winged nibblers of the wild while my friends prance around sans bugs imitating leeches attached to their flesh.

I am have literally lost some mobility in my legs, the welts are so gigantic. I couldn’t move my thumb on Sunday morning, it was so inflamed. I thought I had perhaps sprained it whilst not-at all working it on the not a real stripper pole (I have the bruise to show it) after the wedding. Nope. Bug bite.

I am so hot.

Loving the Loving, dropping the poo

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/sepiatron3000/blog/7147d597-c51a-4ced-8ad1-438caecfd185">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/454/7bd/4547bd0d-9629-4508-866c-cdf5c5e26fec.thumb" width="65" height="52" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>Lately I’ve been pleasantly stuck in a state of appreciation for the love I receive. Got all mushy and sent out a group text the other night, just acknowledging and thanking folks for loving me how they can, when they can, even from afar. And what happened? More love came back in texts and in person.

I’ve also had a few situations recently where I have had to re-evaluate a relationship, maybe open the door a little wider or finally just call it and shut the door. I feel like I’ve dropped some social weight that has been guilt tripping me and tracking my movements to the point where I finally felt fine to say Sod Off, this is not ok. That has happened with a few people. And I feel better because of it, acknowledging the lack of love there. It is not my job to “make them ok” just as it is not yours to “make me ok”. Only when we are truly working on ourselves can we do anything true for anyone else.

I am finding being able to appreciate what people can give instead of being full of expectation is helping me just be happy on my own, regardless of what people are flinging/floating my way. And that is the whole point of this single thing and the whole point of life, really. I am finding when I expect less, when people do come through, they float in with flying, glittery colours and I am blinded and amazed.

Thanks Kids.

<div>the first TAS in pdx was quite a success- Margaret had over 100 people come through, some pieces sold (not mine, pout, but I got lots of good feedback and was actually treated as an artist so I'll take it) and the performers and mcs were kick ass (thanx to Chris and Creature/Nick). Many people came that I wasn't sure would make it. I got to introduce He-Man's battle cat to my Lightening Goddess Amur Leopard; they are now in love! Children were pushing buttons on my pieces, people asked about what they meant-very cool. For one of the first times, watershed felt like my space, like I was supposed to be there. Glorious. I fell in love with a few pieces, the one in my head most was a painting of a squid with a voice bubble containing a unicycle. Loved it.

Looking forward to next year's show!

<div>leaving the store, i stupidly look into the trash-filled with recyclables and once again have my daily efforts proven pretty much futile. and i think about how hard it is to even attempt to convince some folx, people who consider themselves lefty, who buy organic and shit. "I have another bottle for your collection" is what a former coworker told me today, proudly holding yet another of his three times a day soda bottles. "I wish you would have bought a can instead," i said, continuing to type. it's fine if you don't want to change your habits for, you know, the entire fucking world (actually, it is not ok. at all. you are my problem. the landfill should be in your house.) but don't fucking parade it in front of me with pride- you just look like the ignorant ass that you are. let's not discuss it, let's talk about cats and the stupidity of my job and keep it to things we agree on.

i have energy if someone is open (as with ignorance around race, gender, sexuality), can accept new information and at least consider that their view is not the only view and is not necessarily the right view. but if you proudly bask in, quite literally, your own waste and expect others to clean it up for you, fuck off. i will put my energy towards people on my page and be inspired by them.

this weekend, I momentarily fell in love with a friend of mine as he removed a staple from a tea-bag before chucking the biodegradable bag filled with plant product. thank you for thinking. thank you for caring. thank you for that being your own idea, what came naturally. thank you to my friend who let me trade out her bottle for a can. thank you to the people who are shifting their consumerism despite the fact that we few cannot be responsible for the many and it is the many who will devour our resources and then wonder where it all went, why things are so darn different, why we have fewer species, why our beaches are so restricted, why plastic bags have been banned, why all the dramatic things that are bound to happen have happened at all.

our civilization is starting to crumble. times are a changin'. get on or get off but get to it so we can hurry up and get there, to that lovely, slow burning apocalypse that will be our test of survival, what we really need, what we think we need but don't, what we were never meant to have. we are there already only it is not the mushroom cloud/zombie/alien takeover/mass plague etc. so may not be recognizable yet to the masses but is to those of us paying attention. Like my most favorite writer, Octavia Butler, I believe we are earthseed and our destiny is among the stars. But let us not go there because we have crushed our planet so, obliterated the possibility of life here, let us learn our lessons before we trash any solar system we end up in. the multiverse is not our landfill. while space and matter may be infinite, resources are not, individual life forms are not. please. Please. PLEASE.</div>

<div>my nickname will always be saragreer. sepia just isn't catching on, at least, not yet; Most people pronounce it "sehh-peeya" instead of "see-peeya", sometimes i correct, sometimes I don't. i figured it was common enough, "sepiatone" and all, but maybe I am more of a photo/film dork than i thought. in terms of filmic imagery, it is the light brown, golden tone you may notice in older photography but also photography from all time periods as we artists tend to love it and use it often. then again, i mess up people's real names all the time, and get stuck over some of the more complicated, multi-faceted, multi-pronounciation possible playa names.

what are the playa names you find most memorable/fitting? What are the playa names you have stumbled over, wondered about,?

Tonight was the double decker party and i think it went pretty well/is currently going pretty well. It goes until 3am but it is 1:13 and i am home, after catching a ride with Kevin/Tracy because they are my hot chauffeurs writing this, thinking about tomorrow and camping and what i need (there may be snow), thinking about being friends with my second ex- not my second ever ex, that happened in, like, 3rd grade but second ex i am truly becoming friends with. well, there are the ny boys, the two, but that's long distance, "i will be filled with fury if i don't get to see you" once in the wekk in town, past tense drama. for the record, that is something an ex said about me, not something said about him. sad, longing but not filled with fury, although i appreciate the passion of the language. i shall take it. he's married now. everyone is married now. or divorced.

pleasant moments from the evening:

making Tracy giggle as i eiscribed the differing scenarios I could use her new playa name under: Bone Saw. She is one of two people I know there tonight who has used a bone saw, cut bone, cut flesh. and mind you, this name came about as she has pink sunglasses on her noggin, a pink nightly, a pink fuzzy bathrobe on. i told her it would be a pleasure to be like "hey, bonesaw, I need help with these doilies".

mutually flirting with a woman trying on boutique clothing with my photographer friend/ex as he snapped shots, benefiting the boutique, his portfolio and her ego all at the same time. it was dollar madness hour and the leopard-y print negligee looked outstanding on her and i told her so, we both did. i worked in my own subtle-ish way to help his photography and he helped to sell her on the clothing which she bought. non of it was intentional really but it worked out. plus, she said i was pretty or beautiful or something nice.

noticing people noticing me. ah. being noticed, what's that?

dancing to glitchy goodness with Tyler, Gina and Tracy on the dance floor, and maybe two other people. dancing with room to not bump into people is a lovely thing.

meeting Piepo in person.

Seeing Steve spin fire!!! Dude, when you are ready for the green mohawk, i can help out.

Bruce and Noize and Art showing up and hanging out.

Washing my hands next to the Woman who performed burlesque, and well, later in the evening. Her power, her control, her confidence, that girl has Reveal- what makes stripping an art, what makes the difference between stripping and burlesque in some ways.

my contacts are killing me and i have to sleep for a 10:30 (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) camping call with Travin.

Tim and Happy and Maquette and all the others who put hours and work and time into tonight's benefit-Thank you. I hope we all earned big lovely money for our various projects.

    </a>
										<div>uh my golly, that was rad. Just got out of my first editing class at portland community media-6 people, varying degrees of film experience, mostly not much. Our first project was to answer a question asked by the teacher, frame it using four images he picked out and to edit in camera with our voice-over. Of course, the images were kinda random, not directly relating to anything. A few folks freaked out, felt trapped, wanted to run for the hills. I was stoked-it was a great lesson in finding context for imagery, creating context through cuts. And it was highly enjoyable to give positive feedback to the folks who were so scared-and to emphasize that they created something rad, in very little time, and that the process itself forced something to come out of them/us. The teach left the room for a minute and I ended up telling this guy how to operate the camera- ah, it felt like college, the comfortablity with the space, the equipment. It made me realize how independent I really am when it comes to creation-how easy it is for me, how natural. And I can help others get through that initial block. And it was a good reminder to me of how advanced I actually am even though it's been a loooong time since I've really shot something, really made something with video/film. I wasn't scared at all, just excited. They laughed at the right points with mine, marveled at the cropping I did to take the images and make them more my own. It was great feedback for such a little thing.

On our second project ( choosing four out of 10 images and answering the question "what does it mean to be an a/American" (I added the lowercase a) again cutting in camera with a live voice over), I noticed a confidence boost in almost everyone. We strutted in and out of the shooting/editing room, smirking at our little creations. I shot mine in about 2 minutes, others took longer. But I am not stressing about these pieces being "art" per se, I know they are just little projects to get us open and thinking. I reiterated process as a major part of art creation, letting things happen, seeing how you can use them to your work's advantage.

It's an interesting little group- four freaks of nature, including myself, all of us gay or trans or bi, a little rough around the edges, and two "normals" (yes, I am a judgmental bitch) from the burbs who have a real passion and a real interest. The trans woman was the most stressed and worried about her work-but we are a nice group-I think we all gave her extra props because she was so afraid-and she was definitely more comfy for the second shoot. And the teacher is rad, very limited in his instructions in an effort not to make people feel like they have to color inside the lines. And it doesn't hurt that he happens to look like a pacific northwest version of the actor who played Lancelot in the [horrible] movie version of Mists of Avalon. Less hair, more beard. Trying not to develop a crush-oops, too late. I have crushes on everyone, just about. And one of the women looks like Martha Plimpton and she's from san fran and she's cool and stuff. Everyone looks like someone else these days...

but, yeah, really glad I am taking this class, getting involved in community media- I think I have a lot to offer, I think I will get a lot out of the class and may even find some other filmy folx to work on projects with.

Talked to two men that I love tonight, one before class, one after, both artists, both really pushing themselves artistically and I feel lucky to know so many artists lately...the past few years have been full of sports and science lovers-nothing wrong with that- but it is SO nice to know creative folks who Get It, who can be supportive, who understand that art is important, who have the words to speak intelligently about art. Period. Sometimes in my other group of friends, it is a battle to even get people to admit that art matters. I am so thankful for the folks I have met this year (and for one I have known forever) and their collective creativity-it re-hydrates my own creativity and it makes me feel less like an alien species. It's great to start the conversation from the point of "Duh, of course art matters-now what?" and to build rather than explain why.

Yay Portland Community Media!  </div>

flirting through upcycling

<div>So, I didn't know there was a word for what I have been doing, looking at "waste" as materials but there is: upcycling. It's not just about re-useing or recycleing into the same old thing; It's about looking at our leftover packaging and anything produced in mass quantities that seems to have a one time use and trying to figure out an actual use for the materials.

Today a boy came up to the cube and asked about my upcycling project (the cap thing), wanting to know, after looking at the massive pile of red coke caps on my desk, if I took other cap colors. I could have hugged him. I explained that they are the ones people hold onto for the cap codes and the possibility of free crap. He brought me a yellow! Rare! And a bunch of whites and a few blues. One lady brought me a silver cap-fancy! But, yeah, we chatted for a minute and introduced ourselves and he went about his business. He's probably 12. A few hours later, he came back with a few more caps and we got to chatting again and I mentioned Playa. He was like "What did you just say?" and, yay, he is a baby burner, went this last year for the first time. He gave me his link to, apparently, 700 images he took this year. Yay, another burner at work and yay, someone else who is thinking a bit more due to my project. People stop outside the cube and read what I have written, some ask questions, I'm sure most just shake their heads and think it's not their issue but a few get engaged and that is awesome, especially in The Beav. Highly necessary.

Az gave me a hug after reading my mopey tax blog. Thanx Hun! So nice to get hugs at work!

I feel like a baby filmmaker, I have my first final cut class this thursday. Wish me luck and much rad footage and cuts! If anyone wants to Diva and be my muse, lemme know...

giving the sea cancer, trying to slow the process

    </a>
										<div>i keep reading about the flotilla, which seems to get larger each time i read about it. first it was the size of Texas. then two Texi. then the entire United States, twice. !00 million tonnes floating in the North Pacific Ocean, providing enough tiny plastic pellets to outway plankton six times for a distance of over 600 miles, 100 meters deep. barnacles attached to beach balls, algae enmeshed in plastic bags, fish and birds and turtles and jellyfish all literally consuming the same plastic that leaches toxins unnatural to their world, the same plastics linked to cancers and other nasties. yet the plastic is completely tangled up in the ecosystem. through starvation and toxins, we shall end the sea. the massiveness of this makes my brain hurt. Charles Moore, the man who first documented and studied the flotilla (and set up the Algalita Marine Research Foundation) said in an interview:

"Q: It seems most people become outraged by large oil spills, why aren’t they more aware of the larger plastic and trash problem?
A: The thing about an oil spill is it will biodegrade after a certain amount of time. It is made from plant material and it will turn back into plant material. Dr. Ebbesmeyer says, on a scale from one to ten, an oil spill is a two and a spill of plastic debris is a nine. So the danger is really reversed. But our species is programmed for immediate threats. We want to see what the saber-toothed tiger is doing lurking around the corner, we don’t want to know what a plastic bottle is doing 500 years from now.

...we have no plan, there’s no end game for plastic trash. There’s no take-back infrastructure. Recycling is less than five percent. Ironically, we’ve created a throw away society and we’ve created a product that doesn’t break down to go along with it. Look at bottle caps: they are polypropylene, which we don’t recycle. That’s why so many birds are eating bottle caps, they really need to be attached to the bottle like the pop top had to be on aluminum cans."

i know all plastics are an issue but soda/water bottles are consumed at about 500,000 every five minutes in America. so, stop buying plastic bottles, please. it's actually not that hard. donate caps to my project or rock a project yourself. if you must purchase soda, and sometimes it can be neccesary (or feel so) buy cans! aluminum is super-effecient to recycle, you can get about 20 re-cycled cans for the energy it takes to produce one new one. besides, only 2-5% of plastic that gets put into recycling actually gets recycled. And plastics, although handy, are over-utilized and take oil to produce. the same oil we fight wars for so we can have cars to sit in and straws to suck on.

my cap-project is taking off. people want them, people ask if the idea is patented, people want to do girl scout projects with them, although I think the process is a little too stabby for kids, myself. you can actually watch someone Get-It, figure out how it is done, how mind-bogglingly easy it is, how obvious. It can take about three different explanations, even with smarty-smart people. we just don't actually pay that much attention to our material waste, including plastic bottles. the different neck sizes, lengths, the cap differences, all now something i notice.

i came into work earlier this week to a string of caps adorning my cube and a pile of caps in a tin. people are asking me questions, people are actually saying they only buy cans or that they will now that they know what's up. some of them still don't really get it. i am careful not to act like a personal recycler-the point here is to think about our consumption, not feel better about consuming/producing plastic waste. I got a bit snippy at someone recently who seemed to be purposefully buying soda bottles so he could donate them to "my cause". (pollution as flirting technique, anyone? really?) he's been drinking canned soda ever since. ta da!

now, who is wealthy enough to start a "bottled" water company and use aluminum cans with re-usable lids? that's the market.

thank g/G/oddess beer doesn't come in plastic.

<div>SO, last week I had a dream about finding many small toys and broken playsets for the toy art show. When I awoke I was sad not to have these items. Picture me, raising a flower-petal themed plastic play-set in triumph, holding in my squeals of delight this past Tuesday. I found lots and lots of abandoned toys, including the death-skull face of a castle, many toy guns, a plastic polar bear, many plastic pieces of furniture, two ml ponies, a glow in the dark skeletal stegasuarus, puzzle pieces, many wings, a black baby-doll, etc. Some of the toys near me turned on, wobbling feebly and I was hit with Velveteen Rabbit guilt. Someday, I will have a collection of abandoned toys that do not deserve to live in a landfill. But for now, I saved about 5 pounds of toy waste and walked out only spending 10 bucks. And I got a few totes to cover and two items I can convert for Boutique clothing. Yay Bins!</div>

    </a>
										<div>today I left work all bunched up, stalking through the drizzle and lacking an umbrella. When I got to my Max stop, I stood staring with envy at the hummingbird I ironically call "mine". I've decided it's a boy and he has been living in the trees by the Millikan Way stop for, well, as long as I've been stomping through there, two years now. (omg) He goes away for a few months at a time but always returns, buzzing around and just perching, staring and feeling the breeze, rising to hover now and then, when he feels like it. today I watched him with envy, sitting in his favorite tree, not perfectly happy, not brooding either because he is simply following his nature, he just is.

it made me think of a partially ludicrous quote from Angel (Dork Out Moment); 5x19 ; Illiryia; in reference to something said by Angel, and also humans in general; "Plankton, envying the Ocean that Holds them." I read it as Humans envying what is bigger than them, but what they are also a part of. I, envying one of the many beings in this world with whom I am connected to, envying one tiny, tiny, tiny part of the multiverse, envying one of the beings that connects me to it, this infinite space in which we dwell.

On the train, I hung out with Frank Black, my new boyfriend. Spinning through my walkman, he said, "My mind is like an ocean, my mind is like an ocean". I think he's right.</div>

For anyone who wants to bask in the wonders of my jeweled and perfectly clear life path, bring your shit-kickers to the GoodFoot (upstairs @ 28th and se stark) Tuesday night at about 8-ish. I will have it all figured out by then, which is why I may be slurring my speech slightly and colouring furiously. At this point, I still have to work a normal day Wednesday, so it will not be too late of an evening. Non-hydrogenated fries! Free jukebox of stuff you don't hate! My Little Pony hair! Crayons! Venue is easy to hold in case of zombie attack! If anyone brings balloons, orange cupcakes, coloring books, apocalyptic handbooks or nicotine patches and gum, I will think you are soooo cool. Then again, if you show, I will think you are cool. Ok, even if you don't show, cool can still be yours. Maybe.</div>

DNGR: Not Safe for Security

<div>so, last time i flew, you were allowed to carry matches, but not lighters. so i left my lighters at home, brought matches. only, during my check in, i acknowlwdged to a little touch-screen robot, that I had one of the flammable items listed (matches, listed with guns and explosives). I didn't notice but my printed "boarding pass" had "freak out now!" written all over it. the screen told me to proceed to the gate, which i did. standing in line, the video of all prohibited items playing above our heads, I threw out my matches. i handed the man my ticket and my i.d. he said "this isn't a boarding pass" and told me I needed to go get one. that's when i noticed my ticket said not safe for security and, in full caps, DNGR. if a person honest enough mention, yes, she does have matches is our big danger, we are all in for a smooth ride. like someone with actual intent for hijacking would tell you about it; "why, yes, I have packed some explosives today. but I think that girl up there with the maches that are impossible to blow out, she looks like the real danger" i love it; noone can carry over a certain amount of liquid on the plane, that is, unless you're carrying a baby, in which case, bring as much liquid as you want. like a mother can't be a terrorist too. it's all so silly.

i went back to the counter, explained what had happened and got a new ticket right away. the woman at the counter told me to just put my matches in my pocket. security.</div>
