How does one describe an enigma?! Gorgeous, entrancing, amazing, lovely, kind, generous, glowing, ethereal, compassionate, outstanding, flowing, graceful, funny, dazzling...wow, the list goes on and on and still I could never even come close to finding the words that exemplify the experience of meeting and/or seeing Shamsi perform! She is a goddess in mortal entrapments! And I am so humbled to know her!

What can I say about this fabulous woman who made me feel better every time I walked into her studio? Shamsi has so much passion for life and for helping you reach your goals. It took three people at three different times to convince me to go to her studio, and once I got there, I wished I had gotten there sooner! I miss seeing her every week, but I know I always have a great friend and teacher in LA or where ever she decided to go!

Shamsi's meditative dance seminar was the best I had ever taken! The music was updated, the soundsystem was rockin, and she was believable and grounded! I have tried videos since her seminar and nothing has been as powerful and connected to where I am trying to do with my dance..

Here's my officially offical Bio:
Shamsi Pettus is a professional dancer with a varied background in Middle Eastern, North African and Turkish dance, Bharatanataym, Yoga and Tai Chi. In addition to being a Certified Teacher of Dancemeditation, Shamsi is also a level III Reiki practitioner. Owner and co-founder of BayouShimmy dance studio in Baton Rouge, LA she offers classes in Dancemeditation, Bellydance and general fitness. Shamsi's teaching is guided by a desire to make beautiful, healing movement accessible and possible for everyone. By cultivating constant, subtle awareness, Dancemeditation reaches in and wakes our sleeping inner Beauty. Shamsi brings these dynamic principals to her teaching.
It's all true too! I love teaching. When I whirl I feel like I've come home. When I dance I feel as though the heavens are sprinkling me with pixie dust. I'm goofy as heck and can't escape it. I love big, laugh loudly, screw up monumentally and manage to learn from most of my mistakes. I wish I was an untouchable goddess in an ivory tower, but then I get dirt under my fingernails. I love people, but hate the human race - misanthropic with a huge touch of empathy.
If you ever take classes with me I hope to make your brain hurt. If I take classes from you I promise to be a good girl and keep my mouth shut and just do the work :)
