Cultural Dynamite

When I was thirteen years old, my longing to connect spiritually made me leave my family’s religion and seek a more meaningful spiritual life. This led me to the Catholic Church. I loved the music, the incense and especially the chanting in Latin, but was soon confronted with Mother Mary and the story of the virgin birth, of her “only son”, Jesus.

As a teenager who had never been exposed to this idea, I found it insulted my intelligence. It was obvious to me that she was a woman like ... read more

about me
I am a sound healer, author, singer, composer, and recording artist. I am the founder and director of The Way of Song Center at Riversong Sanctuary, in Kauai. For nearly twenty years, I've focused on developing, teaching and performing the SpiritSong technique, a process that celebrates the human connection to spirit through song. In addition to SpiritSong classes, workshops, retreats and performances, I conduct private healing and mentoring sessions.

Goddess Chant on Ladyslipper Records, Vows on SpiritSong Records and my most recent works, including The Way of Song, a companion CD to my new book, and Gaia Rocks are all available on my website www.wayofsong.com.

I have facilitated SpiritSong Workshops in cities and towns across the country, as well as at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, The New York Open Center, Julia Cameron’s Creativity Camp, Dance New England, and at Paul Winter’s Living Music Village. I have also been a featured guest on the program Living In Balance on Wisdom Television.

My first book, The Way of Song: A Guide to Freeing the Voice and Sounding the Spirit, published in June 2003 by St. Martin’s/Griffin, takes the reader through eight weeks of easy-to-follow practices to learn the SpiritSong technique. According to the publisher, the “beautifully written guide … shows how to use the voice for emotional, creative, and spiritual growth.”

As a composer/performer, I have served as the musician-in-residence at the Omega Institute for five years, and have performed from coast to coast and in Europe. I've served as the Song Weaver at many major conferences including the Body & Soul Conferences, the Brettonwoods Conference on Learning, and the Women of Wisdom Festival. I have been honored to share the stage with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Michael Jones, Tom Rush, Babatunde Olatunji and Livingston Taylor, among others.
