Shems is an amazing dancer, a wonderfully talented and witty woman, and a fellow recovering skateboard punk.

Shems is this cool punk rock skater chick I know. She also wants to be a bellydancer or something like that. I have to keep telling her not to put sequins and beads on her skateboard...

Still the best there is -- even after being "in retirement" for the last six months. :)

I like it when the drum roll is 10 minutes long, and her tummy is too tired to shimmy anymore, so the grabs it with her hands and jiggles it.
The show must go on.

Wow. Wow. Wow.
I had known from taking classes alongside Shems that she could teach
me some things. Then I saw her perform at the 5 Seasons yesterday. Wow.
Shems, you have musicality. You have variety. You have wicked skill. I
was noting just how many different moves, good moves were packed into a
dance, yet you did not exhaust the eye; the moves all flowed as though
you were channeling the music through yourself. Your dance was an ever
shifting feast of loveliness. Your prowess with props was beautiful and
impressive as well, and the whole experience was fun. Sometimes I see a
dancer that makes me want to hang up my bra and belt because of some
sort of remote perfection that leaves me empty. Your performance did
not do that- it left me feeling happy, hopeful, and eager to improve my
own dancing.

about me
Ever see that part of Riply's beleive it or not where the guy is walking down a hallway on a diagnal like gravity just went a little screwy? I'm sure it was just a camera trick or something, but that's generally how I feel my life goes, not too bad, but gravity doesn't always seem to be pulling me in the right direction.
I understand the Arabic caption roughly translates to "A veil to protect, or eyes will molest" or some variation on that theme, encouraging more women to veil.
I find this ad disgusting.
Here is an article about the rise of veiling and the rise of sexual harassment, molestation and rape in Egypt:

If you ask me, if a man has no more self discipline than a fly, then it's time for society to invest...

I returned Monday from my first Little Egypt weekend. This one featured Dina, Randa Dandash and Dr. Mo Gedawwi and had an adjoining competition.
It was strangely overwhelming. It isn't the duration. I've been at several week long type events and though they are physically exhausting, this one was somewhat overwhelming in a different way.
I competed in the contest, did well, but didn't place in the top 3. The winners were all very lovely dancers whose dancing was really great tha...

I've just received my first email tearing down one of the political candidates for president. It will probably not be the last. I have to say though, I was disgusted by the outright bigotry, lies and racism it displayed.
Are Americans so low as to be swayed by that kind of approach?
I'm not putting forward my support of any candidate right now, but Americans! Have some pride and don't let this kind of race-hate-lies stuff fly. (I'm not going lower myself to replicate it here.) P...
