Instrumental Rock Music Mihrimah and The Fin-Dicators present a collaboration of surf rock music and belly dance. It all started one night at an Egyptian restaurant and hookah bar. The belly dancer came out shimmying to a lame version of Miserlu and a skipping CD. Bill Moffat jumped out of his chair. “My band plays a wild up-tempo version of this song” he said while dancing with the dancer after the music dropped-out again. Mihrimah said “A live rock band playing Miserlu would be the coolest for me to dance to”. That night the collaboration was born. The idea is to bring the live interaction between the band and dancer to form a fusion of eastern dance and western rock. Akin to the Zaar, the audience will find it hard to sit down when things get going. Both The Fin-Dicators and Mihrimah draw from two sets of fans and supporters. Each time these events were hosted, the crowd wanted another Rock-a-Belly Night. To that Bill Moffat says “The Dude Abides”. Rock-a-Belly Night will bring people into your establishment who normally would never go to a Middle Eastern restaurant, hookah bar, or seek out belly dance entertainment. A normal 3-set night would include: Set1) slower instrumental rock music to set the tone and reminders that Mihrimah will perform later in the evening. Set 2) Mihrimah dances to the up-tempo and exotic sounding Fin-Dicators. Set 3) Depending on what the crowd wants, usually more up-tempo danceable rock with a few vocals thrown in. So the social networking got to me, years back. I have returned, tail between my legs, because I find that Tribe has the best specific-networking for bellydancers. I am thrilled to be back! Found lots of old (as in wise and wonderful) friends, from way back when, in my bellydance career. Looking forward to re-connecting so hit me up!
