Return of the technology curse
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 7:02 AMThe current incident: the DVD writer in my computer appears to have a hardware problem and need repair. I've had trouble burning disks using three entirely different programs on my computer, and all failed. One gave me a diagnostic message saying there was a problem with my hardware. The problem appears to be intermittent - occasionally I can manage to squeeze out a usable music CD, but DVD seems impossible.
And of course this has to happen the week before I present my video/lecture at the Int'l Bellydance Conference of Canada. So now I'm worried about being able to finish the DVD for that.
Grrrr. That damned computer is only 1 year old. It also has a keyboard problem - the "C" key often doesn't work.

My computer and my checkbook are about the only two modern-day "conveniences" that can make me cry with frustration.

Damn technology
An employee of a LARGE telecommunications company told me today that if I was having printer problems, I should get out a pencil and paper....
I too have CD/DVD burn problems, but it doesn't seem to be the hardware. If I dual-boot into Vista (which I avoid), everything works fine. I even bought a USB external DVD burner for when I was having serious problems... so at least I can move it to another computer. Good Luck! |

The video card in my desktop seems to have cratered. (The upside is, we should be able to scavenge the video card out of my husband's old computer - its motherboard fizzled out awhile ago.) And my laptop is... Well, it's on its way out, though I'll probably limp through another year or so with it, since it's work-provided and they like to keep things til the warranty runs out. It's already been sent in for repairs once (though they didn't fix everything - this model's got some well-known glitches that none of the "fixes" really fix) - the loaner they gave me was awful, though.
Sorry you're still having problems - you've definitely had more than your fair share in the past year and more. (And if you ever come to LA, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you not to breathe on any of my machines...) |
