So i got my new drum a few weeks back. It's so pretty, and loud. Unfortunately there were some snafus with the drum heads. The spare head has a hole in it, and the one that's on it has this weird split down by the rim, so it doesn't tighten right, and has a loose spot. So I can't tune it properly. So needless to say I haven't actually played it much, since it doesn't sound quite right yet. So I think I've narrowd it down to two contenders. The ergo drum's a little too ugly, and not as loud/resonsant as some others, it would seem. and did I mention it's ugly? so that's out, least as my primary drum. Raquy's signature doumbek's are awesome, but they're smaller, lead tablahs. Again, not quite what I want for my primary drum.

There are a handful of frontrunners at the moment: A standard Gawharet el Fan doumbek from Nileshop.net or someplace similar. - all around great drum, caste aluminum with inlay, but on the whole recognized to be quality made as opposed to the shite that passes for 'alexandria' drums nowadays. just setting things up. good intentions are, well, good and all, but who knows if i'll update this thing ever. but at least there's a start here, to act as a place marker and such.
