Belly Dance ************************************
I started taking belly dance classes as a whim in the fall of 1999. Since then, I've continued taking classes and workshops with more focus. I love to perform and have danced with several troupes - Noore Kavir, Sabah Noor, and Nuriyah. As a choreographer, I have created troupe and solo numbers. At this time, I am dancing with the Qantara Dance Company. I continue to make solo appearances as well plus am enjoying peforming duets with my sister in dance, Farasha Sh'wani.

I completed my Yoga instructor training certificaton at "Yoga Therapy College" in 2004 under the guidance of M. T. and Roberto Mazzarella.

I also love Greek Folk Dancing having trained with George Garifallos. Talk about high energy. I was a performer with the St. Basil's Greek Folk Dancers but the troupe is now on hiatus. I continue my love for Greek dancing and am available for lessons.

The 33rd Goebel Reunion was held at Milheim Harmonie Hall (est 1872). From left to right - my cousins (Vonnie and Sue), my mother (Blanche), and me. The hall has now been granted official historic status and will have the marker soon.
We had a big, traditional German gathering. Everyone brought food and was it good!!

I was prepared for a lot of dancing last week but things came up short. Thursday was great. Anna, Farasha Sh'wani and I performed at San Jacinto College Int'l Festival. Things were organized, there was a full house, and everybody was happy.
Qantara was planning to have great time dancing at the Arab-American Festival on Saturday and Sunday, but the bad weather caused it to be postponed. This festival was to be the first one for Houston having originated in Arizona where it was a big s...

Friday was the day at Threadgill's in the Beer Garden. After lunch inside, we quickly grabbed perfect seats under a shade tree in lawn chairs. Performances were a rotation between Burnside Distribution artists on the main stage and acoustic performers on the side stage. Burnside groups -- Or the Whale and Blind Pilot were both good bands but no pizazz in any of their songs. Well Thursday I made my annual "spring break" trek to Austin to meet up with my sister to enjoy SxSW and all the other happenings. The old Oat Willies saying "onward thru the fog" was valid for the morning drive only it was Mother Nature's fog not weed induced. There are people in the world that always share a positive energy... and Silke is one of those. Even when she has a bad day, she can't seem to stay angry or upset - she finds the humor or positive aspects in the worst of times. It's impossible to be anything but happy when you talk to her... and that smile and laugh are infectious - you can't help but join in! She is a wonderful mentor to the newer students, and an excellent representative for the studio. She's easy to hang with, and keeps me laughing. I admire that she's very confident in her femininity, and revels in it. She's woman, now hang back and watch her roar! *laugh*
I feel very fortunate to know her, and to be able to say that she's a friend. I think she's absolutely fabulous, can ya tell? ;-)

My team captain of the Troupe Noore Kavir is such a jewel. She is a go getter from the word go. Helping out whenever needed and always keeping the troupe focused on the matters at hand, doing choreography and just about anything that is needed.
She performed with Ayana and myself in Dallas and did a fantastic job of representing the new troupe Nuriyah. This was Nuriyah's first performance. She also dances with the beginner troupe Sabah Noor as well. What can I say, she loves to dance and jumps on every opportunity that arises.
She is a great friend and a wonderful person. Thank You, Silke
