</a>
<div>Two years ago, I blogged about the Tim Hawkinson exhibit I saw a few years back at LACMA, that totally blew my mind: (see http://people.tribe.net/simone/blog/9c5f08fc-937e-4e04-b30e-dcd8a831a03f ) Well, he's back, and has an exhibit at the Getty. I gots to go. Seriously. This guy's shit makes me all crazy exited, creating these amazing multi-sensory installations, using his body, a variety reclaimed materials, and a helluva lot of creativity. Here's the description of the above piece:

&amp;lt;&amp;lt;&amp;lt;&amp;lt;&amp;lt;To create Bat, Hawkinson used plastic bags from a local Radio Shack store. Smooth when stretched, and shrinking back to their inherent form when heated, the bags serve as the skin and fur. Remnants of the red Radio Shack logo are visible in Bat's ears and mouth. Materials are meaning: the sound waves that fuel Radio Shack revenues are vehicles of self-perception, the sonar with which a bat locates itself in relation to the world.>>>>

.....So, L.A. people - I'll let you know when I go, and if you'd like to join me you're welcome to. If you can't join me, just go to the Getty and check out the exhibit, ok? Here's the link to the exhibit: http://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/hawkinson/

<div>Ugh. I'm at home, and she's STILL in my belly.

So, after consulting with my midwife yesterday, it was decided that today I would go to the Loma Linda Hospital emergency room, and attempt to get admitted for a c-section that day. To my mother, husband and me, it sounded like it would be relatively easy, but we were totally wrong.

I spent the whole day at the hospital was monitored all day, and two more ultrasounds later, they determined what had been determined yesterday (that the amniotic fluid was low, and the baby was big), they sent me home, since I wasn't in labor or having any problems..the reason why I had to go through all of this was because I had no referring OB - and they had no information on file from me because I had gone to a different hospital yesterday to attempt to have the version done (BIG mistake ladies - try to keep all of your perinatal stuff at the same hospital, if you can - and try to keep copies of all of your records!).

It didn't help that the first resident Dr. we saw was a total bitch, and was not being helpful or communicative to us - she was the one who did the first u/s, and didn't tell us SHIT. She also reacted very negatively towards us, as if I was being irresponsible for having a midwife and making me feel like I should have known that I needed a back up physician - when I assumed that my midwife already had one provided, and that up until 37 weeks I *thought* I was going to have a healthy, vaginal, midwife attended birth. Fortunately the following resident Dr. was really great, and we explained our situation and realized we were in a bit of a jam. She consulted with the on duty OB surgeon, and they both came into the room and asked me if I wanted to see if they could attempt do to a version. I told them that that was fine, so the second ultrasound was done, this time, with the screen facing me, and with the resident doctor telling me what she had found - which was exactly what the doctor said yesterday - that my fluid was low, and the baby was big. She then got all of the referrals and paperwork and stuff that I needed for tomorrow to get to the clinic where I will get checked over (once again), and fill out paperwork, and get told what I need to do for my c-section on Monday. She really was a lifesaver...I swear as much as I wanted to punch the first resident physician, I wanted to hug the second one..

soo....

Monday, 11AM the c-section begins. for reals, yo. I'm booked fo' shizzle to get my c-cizzle.

..or I'm going to have a nervous breakdown.

Unless early labor happens, which I'm not counting on. But then again, who knows? I think half my friends right now think I've already had the baby..

And I'm telling you - between my 1st OB, to the search for a midwife/birth center who would take my insurance and manageable payments, to dealing with this last minute change, this has truly been an odyssey in prenatal care.

bleh.</div>

<div>Fuck.

Yesterday, I went in to the hospital try to get an external version done...She's now over 10 pounds, my fluid is a tad low, plus my due date is TODAY. So the Doctor said no on trying to flip the baby.

So, I'm having to do what I was hoping wouldn't happen - I'm going over to Loma Linda hospital for a C-section! woo-hoo!! :-l

On the upside, she's a BIG healthy girl..

Birth story to follow in a bit...

Wish me luck and a speedy recovery.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Her fucking head, that's what's up!

&amp;lt;sigh>

It seems that my "textbook pregnancy" has reached a non-textbook point: she's butt down, and head up ,meaning she's frigging breech. she decided to turn this way just a few weeks ago, I suppose just to screw with me (the first of a lifetime, I'm guessing). I've laid on boards, try to position myself correctly, put ice on the top of my tummy, shined lights and played music at the bottom of my tummy, and even had the midwife try to gently turn her - all with no success. The next step is to go to the hospital, and try to have a doctor do something called a External Cephalic Version, in which they manually turn the baby and keep her closely monitored using ultrasound and heart monitors. If all goes well, she'll turn, and I'll go into labor - in which case We'll drive to Redlands and have the baby. If not, I may have to go under the knife that day, or I may be able to wait and see if she'll turn..

In any case wish me and babygirl head down and engage vibe, please!!</div>

    </a>
<div>I know I shouldn't be, but I am completely amazed at how some people think that their fucked up little shallow existence makes them above the law. I'm sorry, but the excuse that other celebs get off and she doesn't is COMPLETELY lame. Talk about a fucking cry baby..WAH!

Below is the petition to pardon her. Read, laugh, and get totally disgusted!
______________________________________________________

To:
The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger

Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebrity and socialite. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives.

Hilton is notable for her leading roles on the FOX reality series The Simple Life and in the remake of the Vincent Price horror classic "House of Wax". In addition to her work as an actress, she has achieved some recognition as a model, celebrity spokesperson, singer, and writer.

As most of America now knows, Ms. Hilton was just charged in a Los Angeles court with DUI and sentenced to 45 days in Century Regional Detention Facility in California beginning on or before June 5, 2007.

We, the American public who support Paris, are shocked, dismayed and appalled by how Paris has been the person to be used as an example that Drunk Driving is wrong. We do not support drunk driving or DUI charges. Paris should have been sober. But she shouldn't go to jail, either.

As depicted on Friday night's episode "Nancy Grace" on Headline News (May 4, 2007), countless celebrities have been "slapped on the wrist" for similar incidents recently. Nick Nolte, Mel Gibson, Tracy Morgan, Wynonna Judd, to name a few, were arrested and never did a day in jail after their initial arrests for drunk driving /DUI /DWI charges. Rappers Busta Rhymes and Eve still walk free after both being arrested for the same charges as Ms. Hilton just this past week. Brandy's California Highway accident, although no proof of DUI was evidenced in her accident, resulting in the death of a young wife and mother in California, yet Brandy walks free as of today, never doing any time and A WOMAN HAS BEEN KILLED most likely due to her reckless driving!

Yet, Paris Hilton did not hurt, injure, or kill anyone or anything, and yet she must do jail time.

This petition is to ask Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon Paris Hilton for her mistake. Please allow her to her return to her career and life. Everyone makes mistakes. She didn't hurt or kill anyone, and she has learned her lesson. She is sincere, apologetic, and full of regret for her actions as she explained tearfully to the Judge handling her case in court yesterday. She is distraught and understandably afraid.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT to save our Paris from ending up at the Century Regional Detention Facility! Please sign to tell The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of the State of California, to think about the welfare of this young woman who has made a mortal error and deserves a second chance like so many others in our great nation have been served with after a mistake they have made . If the late Former President Gerald Ford could find it in his heart to pardon the late Former President Richard Nixon after his mistake(s), we undeniably support Paris Hilton being pardoned for her honest mistake as well, and we hope and expect The Governor will understand and grant this unusual but important request in good faith to Ms. Paris Whitney Hilton.</div>

In the New York Times: Cisco Systems Buys (part of) Tribe?

<div>Okay, I admit it..I was checking out the NY Times online today to scan pictures of the Paris couture collections...one of my guilty pleasures, although, ironically enough I own maybe two pairs of shoes that aren't flip flops or work boots and generally look like a pregnant disheveled goth bag lady these days...anyway, I came across this article - quelle suprise! and I suppose no one has heard about this yet.

I wonder if it will create the frenzied shitstorms with Tribe users in the past - or it will go relatively unnoticed. My feeling is that it will be the latter, as I doubt this will really affect Tribe that much.

....though I do find the reactionary henny-pennys on Tribe to be quite amusing..

Social Networking’s Next Phase
By BRAD STONE

SAN FRANCISCO, March 2 — Next week Cisco Systems, a Silicon Valley heavyweight, plans to announce one of its most unusual deals: it is buying the technology assets of Tribe.net, a mostly forgotten social networking site, according to people close to the companies’ discussions.

It is a curious pairing. Cisco, with 55,000 employees, makes networking equipment for telecommunications providers and other big companies. Tribe.net, run by a company with eight employees, has been trampled by newer social sites like MySpace and Facebook.

But along with the recent purchase of a social network design firm, Five Across, the deal will give Cisco the technology to help large corporate clients create services resembling MySpace or YouTube to bring their customers together online. And that ambition highlights a significant shift in the way companies and entrepreneurs are thinking about social networks.

They look at MySpace and Facebook, with their tens of millions of users, as walled-off destinations, similar to first-generation online services like America Online, CompuServe and Prodigy. These big Web sites attract masses of people who have dissimilar interests and, ultimately, little in common.

The new social networking players, which include Cisco and a multitude of start-ups like Ning, the latest venture of the Netscape co-creator Marc Andreessen, say that social networks will soon be as ubiquitous as regular Web sites. They are aiming to create tools to let ordinary people, large companies and even presidential candidates create social Web sites tailored for their own customers, friends, fans and employees.

“The existing social networks are fantastic but they put users in a straitjacket,” said Mr. Andreessen, who this week reintroduced Ning, his third start-up, after a limited introduction last year. “They are restrictive about what you can and can’t do, and they were not built to be flexible. They do not let people build and design their own worlds, which is the nature of what people want to do online.”

Social networks are sprouting on the Internet these days like wild mushrooms. In the last few months, organizations as dissimilar as the Portland Trailblazers, the University of South Carolina and Nike have gotten their own social Web sites up and running, with the help of companies that specialize in building social networks. Last month, Senator Barack Obama unveiled My.BarackObama.com, a social network created for his presidential campaign by the political consulting firm Blue State Digital.

Many of these new online communities cater to niche interests. Shelfari, a Seattle-based start-up, recently began a service to let book lovers share their opinions. This week it received an investment from Amazon.com.

Mr. Andreessen’s Ning, based in Palo Alto, Calif., is fashioning itself as a one-stop shop catering to this growing interest in social networks. Anyone can visit the site and set up a community on any topic, from the television show “Battlestar Galactica” to microbrew beers. Ning users choose the features they want to include, like videos, photos, discussion forums or blogs. Their sites can appear like MySpace, YouTube or the photo sharing site Flickr — or something singular.

Those setting up Ning communities can pay $20 a month if they want the site free of text advertisements delivered by Google. They also have the option of delivering their own advertising, as CBS does on Ning-based social networks for its shows “CSI” and “The Class.”

Mr. Andreessen said that even with its two acquisitions, Cisco might be underestimating the ease of combining technologies behind Tribe.net and its earlier acquisition, Five Across.

“The idea that Cisco is going to be a force in social networking is about as plausible as Ning being a force in optical switches,” he said.

Tribe.net, which developed the technology that Cisco is now acquiring, almost led this new social networking phase. In 2004, the U2 singer Bono approached the company and asked it to create a separate network for his antipoverty campaign, One.org, according to several former employees. Tribe.net, founded by Mark Pincus, a prominent Silicon Valley angel investor, decided to remain focused on building a destination site, like Friendster and MySpace.

Bono went on to create the One.org network with Yahoo. Mr. Pincus left Tribe.net in 2005 but repurchased the company from lenders last summer when it was nearly out of money. Today, Tribe.net is primarily used by artists who attend the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert.

Executives at Cisco and Utah Street Networks, Tribe.net’s parent company, declined to comment on their deal or its terms. But people close to the discussions said Tribe.net would remain an independent site, while its underlying technology would go to Cisco.

Several former employees have left Tribe.net to start their own firms offering social network tools. Alexander Mouldovan, who had been a product manager there, started a company called Crowd Factory to design social networks for large companies. He is now building services for several telecommunications customers and says the new model makes more sense for Internet users.

“If I’m into fly-fishing, that is where I’m going to spend my energy online,” he said. “I don’t think it is easy for MySpace and Facebook to adapt and bend to the needs of individual brands.”

One challenge is getting users to join new social networks when there are few other members. For example, Google helped Nike design its soccer community site, called Joga.com, but it does not appear to have significantly attracted users.

“I think this will work for certain kinds of brands, and other brands are just barking up the wrong tree,” said Paul Martino, a former Tribe.net chief technology officer who is now the chief executive of Aggregate Knowledge, a service that taps the online behavior of other users to provide shopping advice.

Another challenge is persuading users to enter their information over and over when they join new online communities. To solve the problem, several firms are pushing a standard called OpenID, which would let users sign on and easily transfer profile information among social sites.

Marc Canter, a former Tribe.net consultant who has created his own social networking firm, People Aggregator, was an early supporter of OpenID. “Humans are migratory beasts, and we do not want to re-enter our data every time we join a new site,” he said. “Users own their data and should be able to move it around freely.”

Cisco is positioning itself for the day when mainstream consumers are spending much of their time taking part in these online communities. With the acquisition of Tribe.net, it is also trying to further its quest to become a consumer-oriented company. In the last few years, it has purchased the wireless router company Linksys and the set-top-box maker Scientific Atlanta, giving it a significant presence in many American homes.

Dan Scheinman, the mergers and acquisition chief who led the Linksys and Scientific Atlanta purchases, now runs a new division at Cisco called the Media Solutions Group, which has been responsible for the deals for Five Across and Tribe.net.

After the Five Across acquisition, Mr. Scheinman said in an interview that Americans were quickly changing their media consumption habits. He said his new group would let Cisco help its media customers, like TV networks and cable companies, develop their sites and move more of their content onto the Web.

“Part of our job is to form a relationship with media companies and deliver technologies and services to them, so consumers can consume what they want online,” he said.

    </a>
<div>I haven posted here, in a long ass time..so I have some more blurry ass ultrasound pictures. This one you definitely know that it's a baby. The Ultrasound Doc said she was in the "Home Alone" pose, I prefer it as "The Scream" pose a la Munch just to satisfy my art loving self.

So what the fuck, where have I been? (as if anyone really cares)

Work has been great, I seem to be garnering all sorts of positive attention from some of the higher ups..I'm doing cool shit, and I love my coworkers...right now, I totally love my job. Of course, If I got a raise, I would love my job even more, but...

Sage is still going through is Hep C treatments and his blood work is awesomely good. His viral load count is negligible yo, and he's only midway in his treatments. That's a very good sign that he will be clear of his Hep C before the baby is here. The drugs make him a little PMS-like, which can be hard at times, but were managing the best we can..

The pregnancy is going well...She's a little dancing machine in my tummy, and it makes me giggle a lot and as far as I know, she's healthy. I'm still scared shitless about being a mommy, as I never even really changed a diaper, or held a baby. Plus I wonder how I'm going to be as far as the deeper level of being a mom - like will I be a good role model? Will I be able to teach her the positive things my mom taught me, without the negative crappy stuff that I also learned from my parents, let alone the crappy stuff I've generated in my own head. I know I shouldn't worry too much, but I still can't help myself. bleh.

Flipping it back to another good thing..I may be able to have the birth I want, at a Birthing Center in Fullerton. It all really depends on what happens tomorrow, when the Birthing Center Midwife talks to Cigna about an out of network exception, where they will cover the birth, like they would at a Hospital. I'm so totally hoping this works out! Keep your fingers crossed!

<div>To go, and hopefully I'll be Nausea free..

I'm really sick of being sick, but now I'm sick with a cold on top of it.
Bleh.

and I swear, If one more person tells me to put saltines by my bedside to ward off 'morning sickness', I'm gonna punch them in the head.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, you know know that there is a bun baking in my oven. Ta-da!

<div>Her name is Jenny Newland and she makes jigsaw puzzle paintings. I found this puzzle at a local Jo-Ann Fabrics and almost shrieked from the absolute unbeliveableness of this painting, from the ripoff Kinkaide cottage in the background, to the giant kittens looking so cute but yet menacing as they gaze down upon the inncocent, unsuspecting fuzzy baby ducks.

I am in LOVE with this painting..she also does bad poker dog art too!
