Download FreQ Nasty and Bassnectar's new track "Viva Tibet" and donate to the Tibetan People's Uprising Movement's "March to Tibet" campaign

UK Breaks & Futurestep legend FreQ Nasty and West Coast Bass Scientist Bassnectar team up to deliver you a brand new unreleased track, in support of the 'March to Tibet' action campaign. Available exclusively on Giveback.
The issue:

* Since the Chinese annexation of Tibet in 1949, over 1 million Tibetans have been killed and 6,000 monasteries destroyed.
* Even possessing a picture of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is now considered a crime in Tibet.
* Tibetans have become a minority in their own homeland. Hundreds of thousands of refugees have been forced to restart their lives around the world.

The project:

Exiled Tibetans living in India have launched the March to Tibet action campaign. The marchers have undergone training on non-violent direct action and are now walking throughout India to raise awareness before entering Tibet at the start of the Olympic Games in August 2008.
Support their cause!
We interviewed FreQ Nasty and Bassnectar to get their perspective on the non-violent march to Tibet and why they got involved.
Giveback: This looks like a really inspiring project. Can you tell us more about it?

FN: I see it as a chance for our hedonistic party community to take a little slice of our hype energy for the music and change someone else's life the way music has changed ours. It's incredible to think we can all directly participate in bringing the international media spotlight on the Chinese occupation of Tibet by using our connection with music to support these people. They are doing something I hope I'll never have to do -- travel crazy distances on foot back to their homes to bring attention to the suffering of their loved ones. If all we have to worry about is wether we have the latest club bangers on our ipods then we can probably afford to reach out and drop some dollars on those working to secure peace not just for themselves, but for all of us too. As Martin Luther King said "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".
Giveback: Why do you resonate with this particular issue?

BN:BN: We are belligerently privileged...all of us. Anyone with a computer and internet access, food whenever they are hungry, medicine whenever they need, not to mention loads of free time for art, music, dancing, etc is EXTREMELY LUCKY. I think one way to express gratitude for these blessings is to take responsibility and to USE the privileges at our disposal, as a means of giving back to people who are in need of support. You gotta fight for your right to party, folks....all that is happening to the people of Tibet could happen to you, while you are in the daydream of luxury. it is an issue you can help make a DIRECT impact on immediately.

FN:I met some of the exiled Tibetan people in Darjeeling, India and heard His Holiness the Dalai Lama speak on the same trip. The Tibetan people's happiness and strength of spirit in the face of difficulties we can't begin to understand was mind blowing. If we want to maintain the pimpin' lifestyle we enjoy in the West we have to take a good look around us and make sure others are enjoying their lives too.
Support their cause!
Giveback: What do you hope that donating this track will achieve?

BN: I hope that the energy surrounding my music and art can lend gravitational weight to causes that are urgent, and possibly under-supported. While I have some friends who have personally travelled to Tibet, at great personal risk, i have other friends who are too busy at work on other causes to make a trip there, and of course some of my friends and fans are swept up in the daily motions of life and yet they feel empathy for the cause. So this is a good reminder that "HERE IS AN IMPORTANT CAUSE! GIVE UP A LATTE OR A PACK OF SMOKES OR WHATEVER EQUIVALENT OF A FEW DOLLARS AND HELP SUPPORT THIS CAUSE!"

FN: It's time we as a music community reached out on a grassroots level and showed some love to those who need it, to whatever extent we feel able. Most of us don't vote, most of us see the news as something that happens to somebody else, and most of us have excess that the majority of the people we see on the news can only dream of. If we can help spread the idea that creating positive change in the world elsewhere is an investment in our own security and happiness then I'm a happy DJ.
Giveback: What can your fans do right now ?

BN:You know, I think preaching to the converted is not only useless, but can actually be detrimental. That said, i think the converted can really quit whining about getting preached at and get out and start spreading the messages themselves. :)
Each human is SO powerful, with SO much potential. From a 17 year old boy in Miami, to a 27 year old woman in Seattle, to her 10 year old nephew, to his 56 year old father, all of those humans can accomplish AMAZING things in their lifetimes (not to mention in a matter of minutes or hours!!!!) so other than donating money, and spreading the word, they can stop asking what to do right now, and DO IT.

FN:We are doing what we do best - making tunes for you music fans. But this time, instead of you doing what you do best, i.e. dancing the shit out of them till late into the morning, we are asking you to demonstrate your love of the music by exchanging a free, brand spanking new club banger for an opportunity to make a tangible difference to the world right now. I feel totally inspired by the fact that each of us donating the price of a gig ticket to keep these peaceful warriors clothed, fed and healthy on their Non-Violent march could help end the suffering in Tibet. As the Olympics near I want to see the marchers on the news and say "hey, I did a little bit to help them on their way toward peace for them and their families."
And I want you to be able to say that too...
You can help.

Donate to the March to Tibet action campaign and support the Tibetan people's struggle for freedom. Just $50 will cover all of the needs of one marcher for an entire day and help to ensure they get home safely. Our goal is to raise $7,500 -- enough aid for five marchers for a full month. 100% of your donation will go towards aiding the marchers.

Imagine yourself, your friends and family, deprived of the most basic human rights... the right to life, movement, speech, and worship. Wouldnt you hope for change?
Join FreQ Nasty and Bassnectar -- help end the violence by donating to a group that seeks peaceful action. Show Tibetans that you support their non-violent protest and that the hope for freedom still burns in the hearts of people everywhere.

I saw you walking across the street in San Francisco a few weeks ago.
