<div>The 2nd TMCM Opera opens April 4th. I absolutely have to see it! My preference is either for opening weekend (Sat. April 5th) or closing weekend (Sat. April 19th). I'll be in Fresno the weekend of the 11th for a friend's birthday party.

But folks, I really need a place to stay, so if you can handle the the excitement of having a Meggy on your couch &amp; a fun time at the opera, please let me know.

<div>(though I'll be vague as to who it's for)

Maybe it's much too early in the game;
Ah, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?

Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it's exactly twelve o'clock that night,
Welcoming in the New Year's, New Year's Eve.

Maybe I'm crazy to suppose/I'd ever be the one you chose
Out of the thousand invitations you'll receive.

Ah, but in case I stand one little chance,
Here comes the jackpot question in advance:
What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?

<div>I'm moving back to Los Angeles for a couple years.

To be exact, I'm moving in with my Aunt Laurie &amp; her family in Manhattan Beach. I'm at an unfortunate point in my life where I have to work for a while &amp; pay back my student loans before I can finish school. Auntie can help me find a better job than what I could alone, hopefully with benefits, which I need. My physical &amp; mental health have really been up &amp; down this year &amp; I need to take care of myself before I get worse. I'm moving in November, after the Hobb's Grove run. I'm taking her up on this offer because I recognize how blessed I am to have extended family w/ more money than mine who love me &amp; care about my well-being.

For my L.A. area friends: Yes, it is party time. =)

For my Fresno friends:
I love you. It sort of feels that I've just found my niche again &amp; now I'm uprooting.
This isn't permanent; I'll be back before we know it. By the way, It's not like you won't see me at all before I come back. I'll definitely be making visits home &amp; you are of course welcome to visit me if you're in LaLa-Land. I also wouldn't object to being picked up on your way to a theme park. Hehe!
By the way, I love taking the train. So if for some reason you're feeling Meg-Withdrawal (haha), maybe we could go halfsies on a ticket, you could pick me up from the station &amp; kidnap me for a weekend. No? Well, it was worth a shot, anyway.

SB 861 Not a Puppy Killer.

<div>There's this forward floating around myspace about SB 861 w/ all these cute ickle pit bull pictures &amp; ridiculous/reactionary captions. The note did not mention the name of the bill &amp; only 1 picture did.

The note said:
This is about California legislation being passed to exterminate pit bulls. If it passes in California, it could be on it's way to anywhere. Someone has to try to make a difference...what if it were your pet?
It would be great if Myspace could be used for something good other than getting dates. Please pass the word along and post this...so as many people can see this as possible.

Since I've now seen it twice, I'm posting this. I wrote it yesterday to one of the friends.

Heya. I did some research. I was skeptical about the authenticity of a law that would require people to put down their animals without anymore cause than a being a specific breed. Fortunately one of the pictures mentioned SB 861 or I would've been looking for a while.

It's already passed.

It's not about killing individual dogs; it's about spaying &amp; neutering animals to prevent future breeding. *It still gives local governments too much room to interpret it to any breed, not just pit bulls.* (I love Rotties myself &amp; would hate to see it happen to them.)
http://www.defeat861.com/
This site has a downloadable petition to repeal 861 which would probably do more than circulating the previous message.

The one thing I disagreed with on their site was this:
"...by what method will they determine whether you have complied with the forced breed-specific sterilization? Will it be by registration? Will they have your own veterinarian keeping tabs on you and your dog?"
Sounds a bit on the reactionary side, don't you think?
At the ASPCA, when they fix your dog, they give it a little green X tattoo on it's belly. In this way, if it ever ends up back there, they can easily know if the animal has already been fixed. No registration needed. Also, it's pretty easy to tell with male dogs. (Gee, how would they know?)

BTW, "pit bull" is is an umbrella term for a group of terriers, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, (also American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers &amp; Staffordshire Terriers) as I learned at the AKC website. You probably know this, but some myspacers may not.
I do agree that animals should be fixed &amp; perhaps if people can't prove their terriers are registered it might be good to require sterilization in order to keep people from breeding them to fight. It would also encourage people to buy their pit bulls from licensed breeders who treat their animals with love &amp; respect. I'm also thinking that people who only want a pit bull for the mean factor are less likely to shell out the big bucks to a breeder.

This bill in New Jersey sounds like a much more sane idea.
http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?SEARCH_BUTTON.X=18..&amp;SEARCH_BUTTON.Y=13&amp;article_id=2771

Well, I didn't mean to write a book, only correct some information, but it all came out anyway. Basically, yes SB 861 needs to go, but the reactionary backlash needs to as well.</div>

Tell Wal-Mart: Stop selling religious violence for Christmas

<div>Dear Megan,

What's Wal-Mart promoting this holiday season? The religious right's extreme ideology.

Just in time for Christmas, the religious right has released a violent video game in which born-again Christians aim to convert or kill those who don't adhere to their extreme ideology. The video game, "Left Behind: Eternal Forces," is based on the apocalyptic "Left Behind" novels - written and promoted by religious right leader Tim LaHaye. Despite the violent, intolerant message being marketed to children, Wal-Mart, the nation's #1 video game seller, is selling the "Left Behind: Eternal Forces" video game - just in time for the holidays!

"Left Behind: Eternal Forces" takes place in New York City, shortly after the rapture. Gamers are charged with creating Christian militias who roam the streets of New York City, looking to convert non-believers and killing those who they are unable to draw to their side. In fact, after particularly bloody battles, players must use prayer to recharge their "soul points" that have been diminished by the killing.

Most disturbing is the game's apparent attempt at religious indoctrination - aimed at children and focused on violent, divisive, and hateful scenarios.

The game has outraged progressive and conservative Christians alike, and despite the religious right's typical opposition to violent video games, "Left Behind: Eternal Forces" has not generated any criticism from this group and in fact gained a gleaming review from a Focus on the Family affiliated website this week.

While the religious right apparently has no problem pushing the product this holiday season, America's #1 video game seller should know better.

Click here and urge Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott to stop selling our kids religious violence.
http://ga3.org/campaign/tell_wal_mart/iid8x7u4o58nei5?

Also, be sure to head to the DefCon Blog to learn more about the game.
http://ga3.org/ct/UpMY2xF1-zEV/

Sincerely,
Clark, Jessica, and the rest of the DefCon team</div>
