Skandar's Supplemental Sounds V.9
Hey all, it's been a while since I've posted some mixes (or been on Tribe much at all). Sometimes life gets in the way of the internet, ya know? Anyhow I may not have posted em but I've been grabbing tons of new tunes all over the place, it kind of keeps me alive. So here's a couple that you might fancy.Making a huge name for themselves right now, the Villains have been running in the same punk-dance-rock circles as Justice and doing it quite well. The whole electro-rock scenester thing is all the rage these days, which innately makes me dislike the whole fad, but there are certain artists who shine so bright you just can't look away. From 80's remixes to funky electro to straight up bangin breaks, if you're out for a good time this right here is the ticket.

I've been digging the hell out of this random DJ I found online one day - DJ Phidelity. He has sets up of pretty much every dance music genre, and many non-dance music sets to boot. My favorite of those I've heard so far (he has quite a few) is a super mellow psychedelic downtempo dream-world trip. It's got enough of a beat to play any time of day or night but best served when you're winding down.

Electric Shock this Friday night & D:Fuse coming Nov. 30!
1) Electric Shock w/ Oscure, Baquai?, Skandar, Jonathan Brae – Friday Nov. 9Static Lounge
634 Broadway Ave.
San Diego, CA
There’s no way to describe this month’s lineup except, “BANGIN’.”
A true pioneer of the LA underground dance music scene, Oscure has been spinning records since the late 80’s and has been integral to keeping the scene alive. An impressive resume includes gigs on the fashion runways of Paul Frank and Diesel, headlining spots at underground productions and massive clubs around the country as well as overseas, and tracks produced in collaboration with Run-DMC and Wu-Tang Clan. Founding the Los Angeles Breakbeat Association (L.A.B.A.) in 1996, he has been at the forefront of the funky breakbeat sound ever since, and has released quite a few tunes on his FunkyGhettoPhonics label. Now pushing the boundaries with his unique performances, he combines live production via laptop and midi controller with the old-school feel of vinyl scratching (known to scratch behind his back even). Visit www.oscure.com for tracks and live mixes.
Synonymous with the San Diego underground, Baquai? has been rocking the scene for over a decade. His style varies from breaks to house to techno and anything in between, but one thing is for certain – he always rocks the place. Throwing underground events and community gatherings under the Goodghost moniker, people have come to expect nothing but quality from both his events and his DJ sets. A staple in the scene and someone we’re always proud to have on a lineup.
Starting the bangin’ vibe early on, residents Skandar and Jonathan Brae will serve you up like a Thanksgiving dinner.
We’ll see you on the dance floor!

This is an article on one of her new projects. I'm sad she's leaving the country for two years but I am also as proud as a son could ever be:www.iht.com/articles/ap/...men-Abuse.php

This event was created as a charity fundraiser to preserve San Diego's backcountry and block the SDGE Sunrise Powerlink from destroying the rural landscape. The site where the festival will be held, Golightly Farms, is 180-acres multi-generational farmland and is one of the sites the Powerlink would run straight through.
Earthdance needs your help!
8:39 Productions has been asked by Realivze Tribe to take a large role in organizing this year's Earthdance on September 15 in San Diego’s Balboa Park. For those who don't know, Earthdance is a worldwide event that takes place in support of humanitarian causes through the global language of music and dance, culminating in a synchronized prayer for peace (which included 360 events in 57 countries last year). Check out www.earthdance.org for more information on the organization. This year's event will be a FREE event held in Balboa Park, but will be on a much larger scale than last year. There will be three stages featuring local, national, and international talent with bands as well as DJ's. There will also be artists, performers, and vendors of all kinds, as well as (permit pending) a beer garden. The event is being fully funded through sponsorship and we will be donating 100% of the proceeds to Surf Aid (www.surfaidinternational.org), Green Thrive, Balboa Park, and Earthdance International.
How can you help? We want to make this a fun event that truly represents the spirit of Earth Dance, and nobody has more fun in an earth-conscious way than Burners. We are inviting all hoopers, jugglers, stilt walkers, clowns, acrobats, flag spinners (sorry no fire) to come out and do your thing. We are calling all artists, designers, jewelers, and craftspeople to set up vendor booths, give demonstrations, or donate a piece to the cause (tax write-offs can be arranged). We also welcome installations from the Burn to be set up on-site so that they can be enjoyed one more time. Basically, we are open to any and all ideas - it can be as simple as just showing up and playing around, or we can try to work out a more coordinated performance that could be featured on one of the stages – but please make sure you contact us about bringing performance equipment of any kind as there will be security at the door for liability reasons.
If this sounds like something fun that you'd like to participate in, please give us a shout!
Peace,
8:39 Productions

Upcoming DJ Skandar...
I realize that people can't be everywhere all the time, so I thought I'd give you all an overview of where I'll be spinning for the next couple months so you can make some informed decisions (or better yet – come to all of them).May 12 @ Fire Tribe Entertainment's INFERNO 2-year Anniversary party featuring Shy FX, Burufunk, Garth & Jeno. I'm really happy to be part of this monumental event for one of the best & most hardworking crews in SD. There will be three rooms of three different genres with a major headliner in each, plus some of the best locals SD has to offer. There's something for the junglists, the house heads, and the breaks peeps at this one. I'll be playing in the breaks room with the headliner Burufunk.
May 18 @ UPG's Fast Lane featuring Meat Katie & Dylan Rhymes. All I have to say about this show is – WOW. Two of my favorite breaks producers of all time, these guys are absolute legends. Massive big ups to the UPG crew for bringing these guys over from the UK and letting me be a part of this event. This is an all-night strictly underground affair held at a secret location with two rooms of music and a variety of local talent. We have an Electric Shock the same night for Moody Moore's bday (Porter Tinsley, Philly B, Moody Moore, MC Deco Comprehension), so we'll be heading over to Fast Lane for the afterparty where I'll be throwing down a late-night set.
May 19 @ 6th Annual Heathen's Party featuring 20Meat6Fry, Skandar vs. Moody Moore. Some friends of mine (the Miscellaneous Heathens) have been doing this costume party for 6 years now in the apartment complex I live in. Last year was my first Heathen's Party and it was by far the greatest house party I've ever been to. The "courtyard" of the complex was completely enclosed with ropes and tarps, a DJ booth set up with a devil's head effigy, and a maze built in the parking area in back leading to a chillout lounge in one of the garages. We brought in as many costumed freaks as could fit in the space, and those who didn't wear costumes were forced to wear diapers (no joke). Death Metal Brian and I rocked it out until about 1:30 am at which time we went on a parade. Imagine 150 costumed freaks parading through the streets of Ocean Beach dancing to the song "Thriller" on repeat playing out of a big ass speaker in a little wagon under a giant devil's head. We took over the town's main intersection, blocked off traffic, and rocked out as people piled out of the bars to join the spectacle. Eventually we marched back onto the beach and burnt the devil's head in a bonfire. Man it was awesome. This year's theme is "Smurfs" and trust me it will get wild.
May 25-27 @ The Hamptons, NY. My boy Matus who I used to promote with when I first started spinning in college at UVA is flying me out to the Hampton's over Memorial Day weekend so I can play some mansion pool parties. Sounds alright, eh? Yeah I thought so too.
June 1-3 @ Alma Paradiso in Baja, Mexico. Everyone knows that DJ Blue throws possibly the greatest parties on earth. Well if you don't know, then you really should. This is the second year he's renting out the widest beach in Baja (yes the entire beach), rolling up a big ass sound system, and partying all weekend. Last year was amazing and this year looks to be even better. I'm really really SERIOUSLY stoked.
June 9 @ Sun is Shining day party in Alpine, CA. My friend Chris (DJ Created Diversion) has put together a fantastic local lineup and rented out an awesome piece of private property in the mountains just outside of San Diego. There's really nothing like a day party in Southern California, especially when it's done by someone like Chris who knows how to do shit right. The 839 crew is representing with myself, Moody Moore, and Jonathan Brae amongst an all-star SD lineup.
June 17 @ w00t - "A Day in the Sun". This will be a free day party at J-Street Marina in Chula Vista - really a nice place, I swear. There will be one area of house/breaks/techno and a second area of drum & bass with some really sick local talent from around SD & LA. The entire 8:39 crew will be in effect, with a first-time-ever tag team set between myself and Jonathan Brae - you know this will be awesome. Other talent of note includes Baquai?, Dook, Jon E Thin, the Almost Famous DnB crew from LA, Mixtress, and Peacemaker (amongst others).
Freedom Fest II initial lineup - fuck yeah I'm excited
This is the first time I've had the honor of putting together a lineup this big from scratch. There have been many obstacles and setbacks, however I am more than pleased with how it's coming together. This is almost the complete lineup, however there will be a few more very important additions in the next few days. I just couldn't hold it in any longer, so I had to post what's done so far.Bands:

A DJ is nothing without an audience...
I just read two messages sent to me on Tribe and I'm seriously holding the tears back another 15 minutes until I can leave work. Next to being loved, the greatest feeling on earth for me is to inspire someone else. Both of the messages I received were beautiful words thanking me for the inspiration they received from my Sunday morning sunrise set at Fuente in Choku Rei. Once in a while someone will come along and share words of true bliss that make it so worthwhile. It's words like these that have made DJ'ing such an important part of my life.I love music and how it brings people together with such incredible energy. I love you people, you are my inspiration.
