(update: I am the Hugging Bandito! I have now posted this to all my tribes and will be posting it in other online communities as well. :) Sending it out to all in my yahoo address book also. This is so synchronistic...just yesterday people were coming up to me and talking, feeling the vibe of Openness and there was much hugging of people on the streets from this resonance of being and sharing in the joy. Namaste! )

5 minute hippie hugs
I went to the metapoesis festival this summer in Oregon and the one thing that struck me more than anything was the fact that everyone, I mean absolutely everyone- was hugging each other, deeply, sincerly, honestly, no pat, pat , pat - good to see you - but real spirit connecting hugs.
At first I was all hey whoa thats a bit silly how long they are lasting on those hugs (and I always considered my self a huggy person but this much...hhmmm......), but then after a dozen or two good (great) hugs on that first day I stepped back and was finding myself really getting it, you see a person on such a different level when you truely hug them, to hug everyone as if they are dear friend or family. I kept thinking how so much in our world would be differnt if we all hugged a little more, a little deeper, a little longer. When I returned home it was funny I was still in hug mode and I think it struck a few people in that way it had first struck me, now my peeps are used to it but I have to admit I backed off on hugging strangers this way. Well I am re-inspired it's back to the 5 minute hippie hugs for me. And Skye here comes a 5 minute cyber hippie hug to you for sharing this. Blessings. Celeste |

I've always been a hugger, but I know what you mean Celeste(btw great to 'see' you again, welcome back!), when you really stop to feel it...really open the heart, it's amazing the energy that can flow. :D

very sweet
the first video had me misty and totally feeling the vibe of the big hug. i am a huggy guy. i hug at least 10 people everyday. alot of that has to do with it being the kind of neighborhood that it is....the funk zone of santa barbara. but i find it to be a very good thing for the heart, for me and the other person. and after awhile people that are not normally huggers look forward to getting the hug. and there is a bit of an art form in inviting the hug, like taking your sunglasses off.
a suggestion: practice and teach others to lean to the right side for a hug. heart to heart. |

Yes, when my mother watched this she reflected that my Uncle~in~law has been teaching that to her for awhile, the Heart Chakra hug. I just give it however it feels and often more ways than one..."Hmm, now lets try...this!" :) |

Reminds me of a story.
Once upon a time I was working in a store and a couple whom I had not seen in about 10 years came in and I screamed out and opened my arms wide and ran right over and gave them a big hug. When we let go, thier little two-year-old toddler girl who had never even seen me before was standing underneath us with her arms opened wide and this pitiful little look on her face, as if to say "Where's MY hug?" We just BURST out laughing and immediately I bent over to give her a big hug too. It was too cute. |

I remebered a hug story
while reading the comments I remembered a great hug story of mine from 3 years ago that i would like to share.
i was driving down the street one day and I spotted an older women who I used to work with at a restaurant, now it had been a few years since I had seen her and I was quite excited to reconnect so I quickly pulled over my vehicle and jumped out, she looked up and over at me with a big smile and we both ran into the middle of the street and embraced enthusiastically into a deep heartfelt hug. After a minute or so there was a strange recognition or rather a non-recognition, we slowly released our embrace part way - enough to pull back and see each others face. Well the smiles got bigger as we both realized that we did not infact know one another (obviously not the woman I thought) we laughed and then she smiled and said "would you like to come in for tea". To this day when we see eachother we hug and giggle. It was such a beautiful moment I thought I'd share it. (celeste) |
