This made me happy!

<div>not the post, but the ending....stolen from the "Keep Portland Weird" tribe.

"kinda sad, but true, and he was a friendly talkative sort.

I was walking down a street in the Pearl with the other Santas and met a man who joined us and eagerly told me his life story while clutching a freshly opened and sloshing PBR in each hand.

In between slurps he told me that he grew up here and returned recently. He has been thrown out of everywhere except Powells- they love him because he is a bookologist.

And ever since he got back from Nepal he only drinks things that are blue. He can't drink red,
"And there sure are a lot of you red people out tonight"

I said it sounded like he had a bad case of synesthesia. He said that was right, how did I know? I must be his special Santa.

I gave him a blue candy cane and he was very happy. He said Christmas would be all right now since they made blue candy canes.

Wished him well and we parted at the corner."</div>

Don't

<div>Don't.
Don't be late then try to catch -me- off guard by saying things like "nobody ever looks like their pictures."
Don't.
Don't know you are not going to cast me as soon as you see me then make me meet with you for another twenty minutes.
Don't.
Don't call me at 8pm to ask me to read at 11am the next day.
Just don't.
Don't not tell me anything about the actual demeanor of the character, have me read, give me no adjustments and write me off.
Don't.
Don't tell me we will be meeting with the male lead to read and then decide to just read it yourself, because that means you aren't going to cast me and just don't want to offend me.
Don't.
Don't walk me around the corner from the cafe we're meeting at and have me read with you -on the sidewalk-
Just Don't.
Don't ask me why someone suggested me as "perfect for the part". I don't know. and I don't care.
Don't.
In fact, don't ask me why I'm good for the part without giving me any information about her.
Don't.
Don't meet me because you want a stage manager and have me read to make me feel better.
Don't.
Don't try to intimidate me with sentances like "a stage manager does a little of everything, I took a stage managment course, theatre major"
Just Don't.
Don't get into a pissing contest with me about theater experience. you won't win.
Don't.
Don't treat me like I'm not a professional.
Don't.
Don't waste my time.

yeah..I just remembered one of the myriad of reasons I prefer stage to film.</div>

    </a>
<div>So today I had an audition for The House of Yes (for those of you who have read it or seen the -awesome- movie with Parker Posey..not her part, the twins are already cast..but the girlfriend part)...I think it went rather well, no problems/fuckups...and then they were like "hope you have a better night!" (it took me TWO HOURS to get there from NW 23rd..yeah. two hours. suck..I missed the bus, then the next one was late, then the max was late..it was a fiasco..and downtown traffic was REDICULOUS!)..and I was like.."well, I'm gonna go watch some firefly at the mission and eat a cheeseburger" and the director goes "write that down..firefly!" and they all were like yeah firefly! it was great!...also...their stagemanager is going to burning man.
go portland theatre!
and now I'm eating a cookie at work and waiting for it to be time for me to go to firefly recockulously early and wait cause last week there was a line around the block at 9.30!!
Yes, Brandon, Britt and Alex..I am saving you seats..you are the lucky three!
So yeah.
Things rule.
If I get this part I will be giddy with..,.uhm...gidd?
and Bunny: you'll be able to see me in a show I'm excited about!! the rehearsals start Oct 1 and it runs mid november through mid december at Theatre! Theatre! on Belmont....so you all should send me good lovey feelings through next week! yay!
Uhm..
that is all.
goonight and good luck.
and loves.
oh..PS...this t shirt (the pic above) totally rules.</div>

<div>Wind.
Stars.
the landscape rushing past at a million (or you know, seventy) miles an hour.
After giving in to a sweet craving by riding the bus all the way to work for the ice cream I have hidden here he gave me a call seeing if I was bored.
and indeed I was.
So we rode his brand new triumph bonneville t100 out to the gorge and back.
and there were shooting stars
and we stopped on the old highway at the lookout point and stared at the stars
..I forget how stable motorcycles are. after riding around with bunny in town on his little vespa its almost as good as being in a car.
riding a motorcycle is like having your head in a car and the rest of you flying..you can't feel the wind on your face or head, but you can everywhere else...
And then we caught some breakfast foods at the tik tok..cause..well.that's what you do at three am!
and bed.
four thirty am.
and awake at ten.
breakfast with The Mermaid and then off to The Goddess's...or rather, the place she's house-sitting..
and it was way too hot
and sticky
and I was slimy
but the resting was good
and Hot Fuzz is even better the second time around.
and then yesterday was First Thursday..
I wandered down to my work after rehearsal and was like "what is up with all the twelve year olds!?" until I realized what day it was.
There was a dj and some art and some alcohol, but I abstained and went to catch my bus..cause...well..I had to be here at seven thirty..
And now I'd better get back to work.
love you all.
miss you.
see you soon!</div>

<div>well...minusing the five mintues of acute nausea due to my breakfast hitting the leftover whiskey poison in my belly..
Saturday was like being twelve.
like those perfect summer days we think as adults we will never have again.
all sun.
all laziness.
no needs or wants or responsibilities.
where you can even forget the responsibilities you have later.
There was breakfast..mmm...bacon.
and then a hike to the top of mt. Tabor...
and hours. (and I mean this literally) of laying in the grass, and climbing trees in my pretty dress, and staring at the clouds.
and sun.
and trees.
I wonder how trees see cities you said..or close enough to..
in their geological time..
and then you scoffed at me for the idea that perhaps ants see time differently because they are small...
and a stop at the city repair project near home on the way..
and sewing
and lunch
and laying about.
and getting to see an absolutely -amazing- play for free!
yay free!
and desert.
...yup.
..pretty much perfect.</div>

<div>so my friends in Alaska went on the Midnight Sun Run (a demi-marathon through Fairbanks, Alaska where everyone, kids, adults, real runners etc get together and run..and some people dress up like funny things) as Luigi, Mario and the Princess.
yeah.
and had little pillows shaped like mushrooms and things that got thrown at them when they got tired and they'd power up.
yeah.
and according to another friend apparently some little kid came up to them and was like "I was really tired and almost quit but then when I saw you guys I was like if luigi can do it i can"..how friggin cute is that!?

    </a>
<div>lets start the week out the way the last one ended...burning that candle on -all- the ends!
who needs sleep anyhow?
Last night I went to a Midsummer Night's Dream costume party (hence the piccy)
it was rad. I got to play dress-up and see peoples and drink mead (good home-made stuff) and homemade cider, and eat foodstuffs and guess at Shakespeare quotes.
then I had a rather....epic....morning
I got up, realized I didn't have my keys for work.
couldn't find them.
didn't have my phone (had left it at Athenas)
then went to COR to use the internet to get my boss and/or manager's number...forgot they didn't open till 9am this summer...walked around, got some change, called my phone. called my phone. called Someday. called Backspace. went to Fred's for more change. called my phone. got ahold of Athena, got Drew's number. called my manager.
no answer.
left a message saying I'd just come down here.
went to 3lions, called him again.
no answer.
banged on the Someday window. banged on the back door. sat down to wait for 15 minutes before calling him again.
and my boss walked up from inside going..."hi there"
so it all worked out but was a bit frazzly.
still don't know where my keys are.
am off to rehearsal
then to stripperoakie
then to bed
then to open tomorrow at 6.30am (oh yeah..gettin' up at five thirty) then a break. then to rehearsal again!
oh.
yeah.
I'm a rockstar.</div>

This Is Adorable

<div>taken from my friend Sid's blog. I thought some of you might appreciate it (bunny for the travelling tips, Brandon for the sally comment and any dirty hippies I might know for the love of dirty hippies *grins*)

"Traveling tip no #34157:

When traveling through shadier neighborhoods in foriegn countries, shoes are very important. The best protection anyone can have in neighborhoods known for sex and drug deals is to look like a local; this means keeping any cameras you have generally out of sight, avoiding fanny packs (really, why did anyone ever think this was a good idea?), and not wearing the garish tennis shoes that nearly every American tourist seems to wear. I'm not talking all atheletic shoes, I'm talking about the big, overpadded, clunky blindingly white shoes built for running or as cross-trainers. You know the type.

Yet tennis shoes are comfortable, particularly in big walking cities like France. I, myself, had to buy a pair and wear them for a while when I managed to hobble my left foot about a week back. Yet they stand out, they say 'not from here', and so its best to try and find a comfortable pair of shoes that don't scream out 'American money'. Preferrably, wear shoes that match the local style: in India, for example, it'd be Bata sandals. Here in France, it seems to be puma, or sorta a casual leather shoe. Indoor soccer shoes do a great job of fitting in. It's amazing how different the reactions can be based solely on your shoes.

Second tip: if you're lost in a shady neighborhood, or need assistance of any kind, do not try and find a police officer. They will not help you, they have better things to do, and will probably not speak english. Instead, go find a dirty hippy.

You know the sort. Army surplus clothes, dreadlocks, tons of piercings. Among the people who aren't selling drugs or sex but are just sorta bumming around. The fun looking people. If you're from Alaska, you're very conversant with the dirty hippy... probably you have a ton of them as friends, probably they are the Mayor of Ester or will accompany you to activities like Angry, Young, and Poor. Thus, unlike so many, you have no fear of the Dirty Hippy and will approach them confidently.

The dirty hippy will usually be a small group of loiterers, 16-27 years of age, who will also be dirty hippies. One of them will ALWAYS speak flawless english. They WILL bum your cigarettes. They WILL ask you for change. This is alright; in exchange, the english speaker will be helpful and answer your questions. Afterwards, you can buy a bottle of wine and wander the red light district with them, talking about the comparative value of reading Marx and Rand, and the effectiveness of a U.S. containment strategy on Iran's nuclear desires. Dirty hippies are frequently well-read and politically saavy; it's the hippy legacy.

In a bit, the Hippies WILL introduce to the other dirty hippies. They will frequently be cute and female. They will, of course, speak no english at all. Doesn't matter though, because they will have a dog. The dog will be friendly, well-behaved, and will have a gleaming coat-- there is no greater testiment to someone being a good person than this dog. Though they speak no english, these new hippies WILL insist that you sing Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" with them, as this is all the english they know. Drunk, you will think this is awesome. Then they will bum your cigarettes and ask you for change. They will also ask if you know Sally. Apparently everyone knows Sally*.

If the hippies really like you, they will take you to people who sell recreational chemicals. In general, it's a bad idea to buy recreational chemicals in a foriegn country. There are exceptions, places where these chemicals are legal or decriminalized, like Jamaica or Amsterdam, but in generally, you should say no no matter how much it'd make your evening better. 'cause if you get caught, the U.S. Embassy has a bad track record of saving American's imprisoned on drug charges.

And so you part, with some new friends (who will be seeing Ocean's 13 with you tomorrow) and the knowledge that you didn't attract unwanted attention with a pair of Asics, and you will have a good night.

Baxt,
S.

* Not a joke. They seriously asked me if I knew a girl named Sally from Alaska."</div>

<div>happy solstice!
as I was reminded today by the bunny in europe.
I won't do much, as I'm dead tired from my seven day week, but I'm thinking about maybe just staying up late in honour of the big ol' longest day...

<div>Day six of seven of work.
day three of four of rehearsal.
I am exhausted.
this play is very emotionally charged...so I'm emotionally and physically exhausted
I am so excited about a shower and a nap thisafternoon it's not even funny.
holy crap.
I feel like an old lady sometimes *grins* but it'll be worth it to have one day off at least.
I really do -not- want to do my OLCC on Saturday, if they find six people without me I am so not here..I am way to tired to not have two days off.
mrr..
its all I can do to not pass the hell out staning on my feet here.
good thing I work at a coffeeshop *grins*</div>

You Know Its Gonna Be Fun

<div>when the night begins with a girl squealing about your corset then proceeding to circle you several times rubbing it vigorously up and down to check the quality and exclaiming "no way! you made this!" followed by a conversation about breast size...

So last night was a blast! Lots of pretty people watching, lots of dancing to good music, the kink wasn't really my style, but I could still appreciate it for its self. Unfortunately I missed Jaine's performance because I missed the bus (I lean toward the bus I wanted coming early, cause another girl who was going to it that i met on the bus also was on time at her stop and missed it) so that was lame. But overall I had a great time. I think me and Telo might go again next month. I couldn't stay long as my last bus was at one thirty, but maybe I'll have money for a cab or be up to walking it next time.

I am reminded why I love portland...there was everything from little boys in rubber thongs and huge goth boots to people in fairly normal dress, I saw one of our regulars on stage during the hanging show (something I totally don't get)...

although..going to a kink show without anyone to go home with..not nessicarily the wisest..*grins*

In worse news though, Someday's band got robbed last night. I stopped in for a free whiskey and they were like, "I'll give it to you, but we're not letting normal customers in..cause the back just got robbed" so that is super lame!

<div>...so I'm going to the Berbati's Fetish night tonight...mostly to see my friend Jaine fire spin.
but yeah. so I'm gonna go get my corset and long black skirt and paint my face like a doll and go play
not sure whats gonna come of it..but if anybody wants to come with lemme know!
yay!
uhm..and I'll be hoofing it back, cause its lame-ass sunday
so if you wanna take a nice long fun walk..we can do that too!

<div>So my dad's been in town for two days.
like a breath of fresh air
like a taste of home
it makes me strangely homesick..but not for the place..and it makes me happy to see him interact with my friends, even if I still sometimes feel like an embarrased fifteen year old inside.
I miss my family
my blood family..
I so rarely get to see them
its also opened my eyes about Portland again..
there is so much here, so much near here, that I don't know about or forget about...
like the waterfront, today me and dad went for a walk on the riverside, past OMSI.
We went out for drinks, we went wandering, for walks through Ladds Addition, we went all over the place
I've been staying up late and getting up early..and I'm tired but happy
Today we went to Multnomah Falls..they're only a half hour outside of town, the same time it'd take me to get downtown on the bus, or for someone driving to get from my house to NW 23rd..
it was absolutely stunning! We walked to the top..wandered..got ice cream.
I had the urge to turn five again and careen down the switchback arms aflail and zooming like an airplane and laughing...but there were people coming up..so I refrained.
so many people!
that is the price for having nice parks systems, I'm happy for the trails, I'm happy for the access..but I'm not happy to be surrounded by humanity in nature.
moreover..the hardest part for me is being a conciencous and safe and intelligent explorer of forests and rivers I want to go play on the rocks, tram through the woods..but I can't. I can't because so many people are around that if everyone did it the erosion would be terrible
and I get that..and I agree with that.
but it makes me mad that -i- can't do it because that would open it up to too many people doing it..or because some people are stupid and get themselves hurt
stupid people.
the park was built in the twenties, and the bridges are all art deco..its really cool..if you haven't been there you should go.
the end.
I loves my dad!</div>

<div>this very special little quote from my friend Annj's blog.

"Lemme make an INTUITIVE FREE-ASSOCIATION here and say they still like the Appollonian Rule. And still under it all think women are CHAOTIC EVIL.

Yes, that's right--taste my DnD.

There's something very sexist about the Dewey Decimal System. Are the emo-boys just waiting for their package of "He-Man Grow Straight" to arrive in a brown paper wrapped parcel? Or is it that guys who can quote from some academic god-head are more likely to be laid?

IS THIS A DAGGER I SEE BEFORE ME?????

given: the world is flat
given: the sky is blue
given: mirrors are flat
given: mirrors reflect
ergo: grass is blue."

oh yeah..taste my dnd..how I love her..</div>
