Davy's Adventure

So I finally made it to Han Yuan, after all this time, to find that its definitely not as scary as I thought it would be. Of course, fear is usually much worse than the actual event. I'd heard so many things about how you're forced to do this or that, but it wasn't nearly as gruelling as I thought it was. I did train a lot, and it was painful. Don't get me wrong. But as my Shiyue (grand master, my shifu's shifu, like grandfather) said repeatedly "man man lai", which means slow slow come.. basically meaning that a lot of soft exercises is better than a few hard ones.

As you can see by the picture, most of the students at this school are between 4 and 15 years old, and the oldest one, probably about 20 or 21.. I was shown around, and I practiced as often as I could. Which was often seeing as we woke at 6am, and didn't sleep until 10 or 11pm. Leaving many hours without computer, tv or any other form of distraction other than my chinese books to memorize.

At one point, while practicing my shoulder checking against a pole, I was asked to train the same against a boy whom my shiye told me is "shi-san sui" 13 years of age.. I've body checked some of my friends who're easily 50 pounds heavier than me, and this kid made me feel like I could've had a case of whiplash!! I had to tell him to stop after only 5 tries cause I was starting to feel lightheaded from the jolt. He definitely felt proud.

The kids seemed to all love me, and the fact that I can make my eyebrows move independantly helped too. I did a glow poi performance for shiye's birthday, as well as a contact juggling performance, which I explained to them I was but a novice at.

The chinese improves rapidly when I have noone to speak english with.

Saturday night I was in Guangzhou.. Thanks to a trick of fate, I ended up managing to get a hold of Terry B (who many of you guys know from the om crew or bm crew.) Sorry to dissapoint but I never did get to meet his girlfriend, but I talked to her very briefly over the phone. She's got pretty descent english, she even managed some low level sarcasm in her words and tone, very difficult for most.. But then again, she's been with Terry for a while now.

Did a fire show to yells and yelps of "TA HEN SHUAI GAN!!!! EEEEE!!!" which means he's very handsome. Thanks high pitched girlie voice number 1! Anyways, danced a bit around w/ Terry and then just spent the rest of the night talking about old times, people, things back home. About how he's plannin on marrying this girl and all sorts of things related to that. I think he's gonna do it too, he seemed pretty sure of himself.

Last night I was in Meishan, a small town outside of Chengdu.. Had a gig D.J. ing vocal house again, for a bunch of chinese peeps.. The D.J. there kept trying to explain to me in chinese how much he loves the HedKandi series.. And his dancer friend kept asking me if I was gay.. Well, it seems like gay guys are just as aggro here as they are in Toronto, cause he asked me if I wanted to fuck.. Something a chinese girl would never do, especially with someone who speaks as little chinese as me. He got all pouty when I repeatedly said "Wo bu shi gay, BU SHI GAY!!!"

Anyways, since I even played some stuff from the Disco Kandi series, he was super happy.. Especially when I put on that stardust remix.. I also explained to them that in Toronto that style is most heard in the gay clubs.. The gay dude's eyes lit up when I described the Gay Pride parade. I imagine he'd probably defect to toronto just for Pride.

Well it's been a long time since I've posted anything.. I'm back in China and doing d.j. and fire gigs.. I'm gonna be in Guangzho (Guangdang province, otherwise known as Canton in english) and I'll be doing a couple fire shows. Hoping someone could hook me up with Terry Bean's email or phone number, since he's living in that province.

For a short amount of time I will be in the Vancouver and Toronto area. I am considering bringing my 6" bouncy stilts over to sell them to anyone that's interested.. If anyone knows anyone who would be interested in buying some beginner bouncy stilts for $170CDN, let me know and they'll come home with me.
